The stand up comedian was none other than Jimmy Perry, who created and co-wrote Dad's Army with David Croft. Perry started off in the entertainment field as a Red Coat at Butlin's holiday camps. To the best of my knowledge this was his only cameo appearance during the entire series. The character of Pike was based on Perry himself, when he served in the Home Guard.
not sure if you guys gives a damn but if you're stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my girlfriend for the last few days :)
Some Members of the cast actually saw active service in WWI and WWII . Godfrey actor Arnold Ridley was a decorated war hero and penned The Ghost Train a great FILM andwatch even today starring Arthur Askey...
32:35 I believe Pike is referring to Sergeant York, played by Gary Cooper, which came out in 1941 and yet this episode is set in 1940, I can't be the only one who has noticed this?

Set speed to 1.25
I've got my speed set at 1:50 😊 That way I get more laughs per minute in real time 😂

Love it. Always thought that the Dad's Army title was odd in that only one if then is....?
Dads Army was a nickname for the Home Guard at the time :)
Shame so many heads cut off, muffled sound and dreadfully low definition. Shame.
Heads cut off to get round copyright rules - they can't show the whole screen

Besides their heads missing ,these earlier ones seem to have a different tone to the acting . They seem stoned all of them.
Well if you read up on John Le Mes you will see how he enjoyed getting high. Most of the others preferred the traditional booze
