- Woman bear hunter, Jen Gawel, takes a nice Michigan black bear during the 2020 hunting season. Bear tags in Michigan are issued on a very limited draw system to insure the population continues to thrive. The Red Oak district is one of the tougher draws and hunts often wait for 10yrs or more to draw this coveted tag.
Bear meat is great table fare and every bit of this black bear taken was used as food for the family.

@@FullQuiverOutdoorsI live in the state of Washington. That is how it use to be here when I was a kid. We would have big camps every bear season with several families together. Unfortunately we are not allowed to hound hunt here any more. Those were some of my most memorable times.
It’s a shame those opportunities aren’t available anymore. Poor decisions based on social “science” instead of biology. Us hunters suffer. I hate hearing that.

Great question! It’s a little late for this year as the seasons are winding down. But the Michigan Bear Hunters Association is a great group to join and start showing up at meetings and meeting people. Check out their Facebook page as well and introduce yourself. There are always guys willing to show someone around.

Is this legal because you dont shoot from the road? I didnt know you could track from the road but as long as its stateland or land you have permission to cross?
We hunt all state land for the most part. We don't usually bother with private because it's such a headache. You don't need permission for that. When the bear went onto private, we stopped them at the road until we gained permission.
