My girlfriend and I used to dance to this back in 1977. She died nearly twenty years ago. I find it hard to listen to now, but it is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard...
I get it. I also lost the love of my life 14 years ago. It's still very hard to listen to songs that meant something to the two of us. May you find peace.
I loved this song in 1977, at 16 y.o., and here it is 43 years later and I still love this song, and still crushing on Olivia. Thanks, Olivia, for providing a great soundtrack through all the love and heartache of my youth.
Same age as you and this is the period I'm fondest, 75-78 or so, romantic light pop before Xanadu and the dance edgy stuff. The girl in blue jeans doing Mellow on Midnight Special
I got home from school and my mom was at the table crying and crying. "This song is just so beautiful." So I got on my bike and picked her up a copy. Thinking back,, that was a really good family record store that had everythiing. Before the chains.
Ahhhh... The older I get, I'm starting to think the chains were always there....but we don't see them until we see them. The young ones today don't see them yet either.
Absolutely lovely! The music world will miss her. I had such a crush on her in high school as did most all the guys I knew. This one song made me fall in love with her instantly.
This song came out when I was about 10 or 11. I always thought she was beautiful and I believed that she was singing this song to me (yes, my name is Sam). Funny the things you remember looking back at that age. Still one of my favorites!!!
Heart touching song, and every performance I have seen is beautifully sung and note perfect.Takes me right back to the summer of 77.Olivia is a true natural talent.
I’m a big big fan! Gorgeous voice. This song in particular is so sad to me. It’s not even what the song is about, it’s just her voice. It’s heartbreaking 🥰
I was 26 later that year but don't remember this song until later in my life, but fell in love with it! It is far and away her best song! Pray she is well!
One of her most brilliant recordings. She lit the song on the fire from the inside and let glow and in the end burn. This performance also showcases her beautiful voice and superlative musical technique.
Along with "Come on over"this is her most beautiful song. The hope, the pain and the longing..no one can get it across like her.I have played her songs for 30 years now,and they are so prescious to me.John Farrar wrote"Sam",she only wrote a couple of songs herself.I doubt this is about her dog.For me it is a love song about a man she has lost.
Me too. But I do seem to remember reading somewhere it was about her dog. I dont have the album cover anymore and I cant find validation. Hard to say and we probably will never find out now.
This song is definitely about a man, unless Sam turned into a dog by some kind of spell lol, but it's true that this song is amazing and she sang it so beautifully.
A true icon is left us thank you Olivia for all the beautiful music you were a kind beautiful humble woman we will miss you forever rest in peace forever lovely one
I can't get this song off my head since the very first listen...what a pity I discovered this gem only a month ago 🥺 missing Livvy and her lovely, buttery tone, her kind presence, her smile ❤️
My favorite song by her-it showcases just how good a voice she had! So emotional too; it brings to memory of Sandy from "Grease." Who would've ever thought that years later, we'd see just how much of a classic song and film the two were!
My very favorite ONJ song, and still love it after all these years (I was a teenager when it came out). In my opinion, she was never so beautiful, nor sounded so angelic, as in those mid-1970s years; check out the photos from the "Clearly Love" album in 1975 - she was breathtaking, as this video from around the same time shows.
SAM was a hit. It's from Olivia's 1976 Don't Stop Believing album and SAM made it to Billboard's top 20. Back in the day when radio was all we had, this one played a lot and we loved it. It's still a huge concert favorite for Livvy.
A beautiful song, touching words and expression, Her beautiful voice does touch everyone’s deepest part.. RIP for ONJ. No one can replace her and she stays forever our memories.. ❤❤❤
Dorothy Hamill (first TV special), the late John Denver & Olivia Newton John (first TV special) all on Wednesday night (specials) on ABC in November of 1976!!!
I fell in love with her instantly when heard she singing for the first time. I bought every record since when. Now just can' t stop tears falling listenig this vídeo over and over. Sorry.
I never understood why this song was not a top hit, first time I heard of this song was in late 70's and I fell in love with the beautiful melody and the wonderful rendition of Olivia Newton john.
Woooo recontra Bonita y estoy seguro no es como las mujeres de hoy orgullosas vacias todo falso y rencorozas bravo x esta epoca de verdaderas mujeres ademas de Bellisimaa
a truly beautiful ballad......my fave from Olivia! I heard that you're on your own now So am I I'm living alone now I was wrong So were you What will you do? Are you glad to be free? Are you feeling lost just like me? Longing for company
A wonderful time in music, when the female voices were great, but also, for the eyes, they were also beautiful. Olivia Newton John, Linda Ronstadt, Debbi Boone, Karen Carpenter, Toni Tenille, the ABBA girls, Marie Osmond, just so many of them. These days the beauties with the best voices and looks seem to be in Country Music. Actually, the same with the guys. They are still, class acts.
Olivia a angel n pure beauty inside n such a voice I can see why John Travolta pressed so hard to get Olivia newton John as sandi in grease simply a beautiful lady xx
With vids like this is how you would like to remember Olivia, I heard froma good source she was ruthless when it came to business and personal affairs but she always managed to pull off the "Angel routine" and here Olivia is without doubt looking and sounding like an angel. She'll always be remembered for her good looks and beautiful voice.
Few are blessed with such beauty (inside as well) and phenominal talent. Young people today need to know what a superstar Olivia was; the total package.
So amazing...Thanks for posting! I keep her greatest hits in my car...Why??? Because the world is just right, no matter what, when I hear her voice....
Hearing this song I always think of my child-hood friend Andrea Carr who was going to the same cathol;ic school I was in the mid '70;s.She left after the 4th grade and hardly a day has passed where I do not wonder about her.Hope life was as wonderful to you as you were to me.Always will be a space in my heart for you.
When I was a teenager in the 70s, I swore I would fight dragons, walk a million miles, or even reach for the stars for this angel. As a middle-age man today, I still would!! :) This IS my favorite song of hers!
Very overlooked single of hers. I always thought this had a touch of 60's in it. The writers are all British/Australian, which accounts in part for its different (in a very good way) sound, I think. Always loved this so much, I was 11 when I first heard it. Imagine this only went to #20 on the Billboard Hot 100, but that's because there was SO MUCH good stuff on then. NOTHING like today's mess. Check out the live performances she's done on this too. This lady can SING.
My girlfriend and I used to dance to this back in 1977. She died nearly twenty years ago. I find it hard to listen to now, but it is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard...
sorry about your wife gary
I get it. I also lost the love of my life 14 years ago. It's still very hard to listen to songs that meant something to the two of us. May you find peace.
So sad about your loss. One of the best songs that Olivia recorded. Chords, instrumentation, and background, were perfect. Cheers, friend.
I loved this song in 1977, at 16 y.o., and here it is 43 years later and I still love this song, and still crushing on Olivia. Thanks, Olivia, for providing a great soundtrack through all the love and heartache of my youth.
She sound like an angel. My name is sam alapai lov
She sounds like an angel love my name is sam alapai e
I loved it then (age 13)! and now (age 59)! I have been a continuous fan since I was 10. I adored her.
Same age as you and this is the period I'm fondest, 75-78 or so, romantic light pop before Xanadu and the dance edgy stuff. The girl in blue jeans doing Mellow on Midnight Special
melts my heart too
Rest In Peace. She was a beautiful woman & singer, now a beautiful angel, free of any pain.
Every time I turn around something from my childhood disappears. RIP Olivia, you are missed.
Childhood? I loved this woman’s voice, and her, for fifty-one years.
Love the dress. Most of all love her. This song is timeless. She's singing her heart out. What a lovely performance!
Just devastated you are gone. Rest in Peace.
She looks & sounds like an angel from Heaven 😌 The singers of today look like they come from the OTHER place !
Maria Christina Bari THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND MOST GORGEOUS WOMAN IN THE WORLD "OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN".
Hahahaha
I hear that!
😆🤣
My favorite song and video of Olivia. RIP.
I got home from school and my mom was at the table crying and crying. "This song is just so beautiful."
So I got on my bike and picked her up a copy. Thinking back,, that was a really good family record store that had everythiing. Before the chains.
Sweet thing to do for your mom!
Ahhhh... The older I get, I'm starting to think the chains were always there....but we don't see them until we see them. The young ones today don't see them yet either.
My absolute favorite song by Olivia Newton John.
This song is incredibly beautiful, but it always makes me feel so sad and nostalgic!!!
YESSSSS, BEAUTIFUUUUUUL 70S
How can u not love this lady, her soulful voice, her beauty, and this song?
Absolutely lovely! The music world will miss her. I had such a crush on her in high school as did most all the guys I knew. This one song made me fall in love with her instantly.
Thanks Olivia. This song is for me, SAM. I was in my early teen years then, but it's because of you I have a special place in my heart for blondes.
This song came out when I was about 10 or 11. I always thought she was beautiful and I believed that she was singing this song to me (yes, my name is Sam). Funny the things you remember looking back at that age. Still one of my favorites!!!
I WISH my name was Sam.
My name is Sam also and I always fantasized she was singing to me also... I was 12 years old.. she is so beautiful!!!
Heart touching song, and every performance I have seen is beautifully sung and note perfect.Takes me right back to the summer of 77.Olivia is a true natural talent.

Wow she was really singing that live! What a treat 😊
Her incredible beauty is only surpassed by her amazing voice.
Well said!!
She was always beautiful!

Lo único que sé es, que para mí, SAM es la mejor canción de la inolvidable Olivia Newton John DEP 🙏
GOD she is AMAZING!!! and her voice is an angel in flight
Incredible beauty & talent & the lyrics of this song ...I'm beyond speechless!
Peace in Heaven now pretty lady!
She was an incredible singer; an angel.
Never met her; still broke my heart when she died to know she suffered bad. Bye gorgeous RIP
A true icon is left us thank you Olivia for all the beautiful music you were a kind beautiful humble woman we will miss you forever rest in peace forever lovely one

Music now days is not as good as in the years 70s and 80s.
Best version of Sam ever! ^^^
Dorothy Hamill (first TV special), the late John Denver & Olivia Newton John (first TV special) all on Wednesday night (specials) on ABC in November of 1976!!!
I love this song, it brings back so many memories of my teenage years!
Miss her already. Thank you Olivia.
I fell in love with her instantly when heard she singing for the first time. I bought every record since when. Now just can' t stop tears falling listenig this vídeo over and over. Sorry.
Beautiful song. One of a kind voice. RIP Olivia
I love this song. She has such a beautiful voice and the words of this song are just as beautiful.
This is what I loved about ONJ, she sings her heart out!
Love the song, and Olivia is the 'complete package' ...looks, talent, you name it!
Everything about this performance and video is beautiful!
So beautiful, an antidote against the toxicity of the world today, she's sorely missed.
This song is one of a kind,,,the instramental,,and her voice just pulls the heart strings
i love olivia in this video. she sings this song so beautifully. she was so pretty back then. i could relate to her heartache.
I never understood why this song was not a top hit, first time I heard of this song was in late 70's and I fell in love with the beautiful melody and the wonderful rendition of Olivia Newton john.

She is beautiful here, and doing a live version of her best song. It couldn't get any better. R.I.P. ONJ.
The complete package !! From Timid to Tumultuous on this tune .. WOW !!
Beautiful OLIVIA Forever 💙🇧🇷
This sounds like she is singing it LIVE to a backing track, which is very admirable
Once again another great performance from one of my favorite artist, Oliva Newton John! Thank you for this video!

I agree, but you misspelled Debby and Tennille.
my god how beautiful she is!!!
Michael Leite its a shame we have to get older .
Livvy hit #20 in Billboard, 4-2-77. God bless ya, rkrause, for postin' it. Thanx!
Beautiful lady with beautiful voice and a kind heart
Olivia a angel n pure beauty inside n such a voice I can see why John Travolta pressed so hard to get Olivia newton John as sandi in grease simply a beautiful lady xx
One song I always come back to, when I remember. Wonderful song, beautifully sung.

I truly loved the song "Sam" and makes my heart happy and when im still young i used to heard that song

My favorite too
This is my favorite all time song by olivia! A true classic and her sweet, angelic voice and her girl next door qaulity!
We gaan je missen mooie vrouw en zangeres
Hearing this song I always think of my child-hood friend Andrea Carr who was going to the same cathol;ic school I was in the mid '70;s.She left after the 4th grade and hardly a day has passed where I do not wonder about her.Hope life was as wonderful to you as you were to me.Always will be a space in my heart for you.
One of her two or three best IMO. prefer the 70s love songs. Hopelessly Devoted, Please Mr Please, Mellow, Honestly Love You, Sam.
Stoning look & that voice... Price less....🙏💘🎠🎠🎠🎠
Such a beautiful song.
Great performance, which is sung to a backing track. The ad-libbed part at the end is the greatest evidence it's not lip-synched.
Enamorado de esta mujer
i sing a little and i can tell she is really pouring her heart into this one. And yes,WOW
When I was a teenager in the 70s, I swore I would fight dragons, walk a million miles, or even reach for the stars for this angel. As a middle-age man today, I still would!! :) This IS my favorite song of hers!
Meaningful lyrics....in real life happened.... heartfelt song....well done Olivia...🫶🫶🫶👏👏👏
Thank you for posting this song:-) Not a very known song by her, but was one of my favorite many years ago........she is stunning :-)
One of her best as far as I'm concerned ..a lot of her fans have never heard this song, as I have discovered..too bad..
Forever in my heart.
Love her hair in this video. full and flowing. Saw Olivia in Oakland back in the mid 70's in concert with Paul Williams. Great concert
She was such a beautiful woman with the voice of an angel
Olivia Newton John, una belleza de mujer y su voz, la de un ángel, DEP 🙏

Sinto o mesmo que você, essa canção é linda demais
Very overlooked single of hers. I always thought this had a touch of 60's in it. The writers are all British/Australian, which accounts in part for its different (in a very good way) sound, I think. Check out the live performances she's done on this too. This lady can SING.
I agree - Olivia has had minimal surgery...btw - I'm a cancer survivor too - had ovarian cancer 9 years ago.
what a Lovely woman she is, STILL... Always loved her singing and her music... voice of an angel, gotta love her (:
Love
I was 15 and I would dream of being able to sing like her, never could, but dreams are great!
Great singer
RIP
I was 18 when this was popular and it was the best time of my life
Beautiful woman, beautiful song! Thanks for posting!
