  • Hello friends,
    Today we are talking about Pilea Peperomioides aka the Chinese money plant, aka the pancake plant, aka the UFO plant (there's a lot of names lol) and how to care for it. I will mention watering, humidity, light requirements, propagation, and some of the common problems you might encounter such as droopy or browning leaves, red stems, or protruding leaves.
    Hope you enjoy!!

    U can propagate them by leaf, by chopping the plant in half, by putting the stem and leaf in water, i even broke off some super immature baby shoots when repotting one and i put them in moist soil and even they are growing. So bottem line is these are the most prolific plant ever and thats why they used to be hundreds of dollars but cost whent down so quick when ppl realized how fast and easy they prop

    Personally I live in a very very plant friendly environment south Florida and my pilea gets about 4-5 hours of sunlight this seems to make the pilea happy pushing a new leaf every week and that without any special potting mix and NO FERTILIZER I bought my pilea at lowe’s for $7 in the clearance section it was a sad little plant that just had like 5 leaves in total today my pilea is the most sturdy plant I have I strongly recommend for people who are newly into the plant hobby and the faces people make when u show them a pilea is 100% worth it😂

    Thank you for being so clear about the pot size and watering. I was going in circles with "no drying out! Don't let it get pot bound!" Both of which I was doing and my 2 pileas have made a single baby each in 3 years. I just did the chop so I really want to start off correctly!

    I have question. I have in water a main stem with only one large, healthy leaf.
    After roots development, 2pups have started growing underwater between the roots. They are about 1inc(2.5cm) tall. Also i see another 2 will pop up too.
    What should i do? Wait longer in water so pups will grow bigger and be able to remove them? Transfer it in soil as it is now with pups under soil?

    • @SirPlantsaLot
      @SirPlantsaLot  2 года назад

      If the pups are submerged in water, I’d remove them and pot them up. If not, I’d wait until they were a bit bigger, it will be easier for them to adjust to soil that way :)

    Hi! I’m a brand new plant mom. This may seem like a dumb question, but is fertilizer the same thing as plant food? Do you recommend any particular brand? How often should I fertilize or give it plant food?

    • @SirPlantsaLot
      @SirPlantsaLot  2 года назад +4

      Hiiiii! Not a dumb question at all! To me they are basically the same thing, just with a different name. There are however products that focus solely on fertilizing plants - some popular choices are Liquid Gold Leaf, Liquidirt, or I've heard good things about Tanks Green's powder fertilizer, but honestly I've been using MiracleGro for the majority of my plant journey and my plants have loved it :D But there's also brands that make "plant supplements" you could say, an example of that would be Superthrive, which you can use with a fertilizer as using it on its own won't be enough but will give the plants a lil something extra 😏 Hope that helps, and welcome to the community!!!! 💕

    • @SirPlantsaLot
      @SirPlantsaLot  2 года назад +1

      Hiyaaa, sorry to hear about your plant. It does sound like it might be overwatered or possibly have root rot. Sometimes plants are more likely to develop rot if they haven’t been watered for a long time so it’s totally possible. I’d say just wait until it’s completely dry again before watering and put it in a nice, bright spot, preferably one that gets about 2-3hrs of sunlight. You might lose some leaves in the process but I think that’s the only thing you can do atm. When it does dry out (might take a week or two?), make sure not to wait with the watering too long. Hope that helps :)
