As a SPED teacher, I always welcome questions. :) Yes we do have a high rate of turnover and burnout. Our jobs are incredibly hard and for our level of education and responsibility the pay is low. Be kind to us. We love your child and want the best for him/her.
#7 "It's an unfortunate fact that Special Education teachers tend to have a high rate of turnover..." ....but "Don't be afraid to offend." "It's not your job to make things easy." One can still be a vigilant parent without making the process adversarial and difficult, contributing to the high turnover of SPED teachers. A million questions in an IEP meeting is better than an unengaged parent, for sure. But those million questions don't need to be accompanied by a spirit of confrontation in order to be productive.
Everyone should volunteer to teach our assist in an SC room at least once. Everyone. Parents. Principal. School board... etc. Don't mind the questions. We appreciate those! We ĵust need your support and you know your child better than anyone. Just ask the questions but leave the dialog open for honesty so we can help the student. Denial, obfuscation... doesn't help us to help them. FAPE SHOULD be applied to every student. If the behavior of 1 child is disrupting teaching and safety to all children, that's not really FAPE. That's over accommodating behavioral issues and why we cannot keep teachers aides anymore. Covid did some things...😢🎉
What about an IEP and online schooling? Is there such a thing with online school? My son has expressed concern about being distracted in classroom and I have been researching online school. His background is that he is a cancer survivor and some of the treatments he has had made him develop a learning disability

YES! There are online schools that work very well for children who are anxious or easily distracted. What state are you located in?
