Great video ! I started flying planes couple of days ago. With this video and some explaining from a friend im of to a good start :) Today i got the G6 to lvl 4. Im realy trying to get better at dogfights and this videos helps a lot. Thanks
Speaking as someone who was a flight sim player before a battlefield player, I would say no. This game does not play like a sim and not only do I not think it's worth it, I think it might actually be worse to try to use a joystick.
A bit of criticism towards your defensive tactics. Pulling corkscrew maneuvers without smoke or use of cover (mountains, buildings, anything they can ram their plane into or block line of sight) WILL get you killed against a pilot that knows how to counter that. Example A being the offensive tactic you showed. When being that low to the ground, something more aggressive should be implemented such as a high G split S. Remember, your first plan should be to neutralize a fight before trying to become offensive. Obviously if you can become offensive then do take the opportunity, but if not, then becoming neutral should be your first priority. Second. If you are learning how to properly defend, NEVER EVER run to AA or flieger. Doing so can make pilots become reliant on such tactics, and will in turn never learn how to properly defend. The same can be said for pilots using high alt packages. Youll never learn to shake anyone if you use flieger bait or high alt.
I used to use high alt with g6 for a short period of time. But then I thought it's really waste of skill. G6 already have advantage against P51 by having a supercharger and smoke. P51 can turn tighter and one shot kill rockets.
Great tutorial man it really helped me..i have one question when iam dogfighting i really lack situational awareness will lose most of the fights...i just lose where enemy pilot and then all of sudden he would sneak upto me and kill me any tips on that would really help
Just takes practice, especially utilizing rear and upward views. Knowing by the direction they're moving where they're gonna end up. If I'm in a game with a competent pilot on the enemy team, I'm constantly looking at the scoreboard to see when they've respawned (with propeller icon by their name). This way I can be wary and try to figure out where they are before they show up behind me without me knowing. Do everything you can to be on the offensive first. It's much, much harder to fly defensively, especially against a pilot with any skill.
I’m still thankful for this guide, helped me a lot! But how do deal with enemy when I’m attacking him and he starts like unlimited circles!? Or unlimited yo-yo s! Hope you get it!
Utilizing rudder will make you turn tighter than the average pilot that doesn't know that trick. Otherwise, utilizing a displacement roll is what you need to do. It's kind of hard to explain, but here's a scenario: The plane you're attacking is doing flat circles, and you can't get inside his circle to get a firing solution. Instead of just trying to follow his turn, pull up while turning and roll back down to cut inside of his turn. This is called a displacement roll. It reduces your turn radius. You can probably google it to get some pictures, I might make a video on this.
It's tough because it's definitely an unfair advantage. Biggest thing is to not take the bait, if you stall below them you're a free kill. Keep an eye on them and evade when they come back down on you. Then try to get as much damage on them as you can as they go back up. Most people who use high alt package aren't really that good. If a good pilot is abusing it, you're probably never going to kill them.
I'd love to be able to dogfight but I play on Xbox and live in Australia so our servers are like 2 full and 3 quarter full servers a night, because of this we always get the same players and teammates, which means we always get the same enemy pilots and they just hog the planes all game and once you shoot one 3 more appear and before your guns even cool your being 3 man gang banged, it's not fun anymore
Ps4 here. This video was really helpful when most of these videos on tips just kinda suck and fall flat. Thank you. The high yo yo is what ive been struggling with grasping . Does a traditional split s or immelman have any value in dogfighting? Due to the plane physics, brakes and stalls take priority over actual defensive maneuvers used in real life . This is the biggest difference in battlefield v vs reality in terms of how dogfights play out. I still use split s and immelman when bombing and strafing, but i have poor to mixed results quen dogfighting.
Split S is has its place as a defensive maneuver when you have an enemy on your tail but they're pretty far out. If you can force a head-to-head merge, you've just evened the odds. It's not going to be that useful if they're close to you, though.
@@Bleem Hahah the irony. You would think it would be the other way round. Sounds like you got a cool brother though. Very jealous you got some military roots, you must be proud.
Hey man what do I do if there far out and on my six? Not very sure what to do when they have a distance and are lighting you up. Thanks for the vid! Keep it up
That can be tough, generally if they're far enough away from you, you should be turning around to force a merge. At the last then the odds are evened. The trick is not getting lit up as you turn around. My general advice would be to do a split-S if you can. Doing a flat turn or a loop makes it more likely they're gonna get a bunch of critical hits on you as you go.
@metalgooder To do a split-s, invert your plane and pull up. This will make you go in the opposite direction back towards them, and gives them a less favorable firing solution during the maneuver than if you had just looped up and back around (that's called an Immelmann turn, btw) or just turned sideways.

I want a defensive guide 201. I also hit brake and try to overshoot enemy when enemy engine sound becomes louder during the circling. Overshooting works most of the time, most mid level pilots and top level pilots, but for those "legendary pilots" it never works. I think my anti ground skill is legendary level but dog fight skill is just top lvl.
Against "legendary pilots," if they're behind you, you're probably dead. The best defense against them is to be offensive first. It's far easier to fight offensively than defensively.
@@Bleem They have a way to increase or decrease the diameter of the circle without losing the air speed, and I want to be able to do that. (for example, UnrealInsanity) Or some asian pilots can do the next level brake overshooting with immediate come back on speed.
Hello. I suck so much on aiming air targets. I don't know how to fix this problem. And I do not even know how to aim accurately while other pilots always get me when they have the chance. Another point is that I lose target very easily even though I make some manoeuvrings. Those problems might be related to my plane load ups or my screen (144 hz 15,6 inch). I'd love to play as pilot, however I still suck...
Might it be in relation with FPS I have? Sometimes I'm being killed within 3 sec... How is it possible? I never remain in the same position but some people just get me within 3 secs only... I am doing much better with planes with back seat. I am doing perfect with Mosquitos. But I wanna be pro in spitfire just like you. I’ll never understand why people are against pilot free look. Tower radios me and says “traffic 3 o’clock, high”, guess what? I’m turning my head and looking for said traffic 😂. No different in BF5
Only reason I can think of is that it's not a setting that is on by default. So less experienced players who don't know it's an option are at a huge disadvantage. But yes, you can't dogfight without being able to look up.
If I were to offer some constructive criticism for the maker of the video. It would be give the explaination just before each action not during. As I already am a good pilot on xbox bfv oce from experience with only some explanational or technical descriptions. But still struggling to follow what your saying and watch at the same time. I understand what you are doing in the video as you do it as I do the same things. But following the technical jargon and descriptions during the dog fight like hi yo-yo etc I can't catch exactly what you mean as dog flights flow too much and there is no clear beginning or end to the manuver. Perhaps next video describe the problem, explain what we need to do and why, introduce the jargon and description followed by the example. But much love ❤ from me as I will be recommending your video to others I teach and it is going into my saved videos playlist.
I'm one of those 5 people looking up videos, ironically because you're the one who killed me 50 times

this is a very helpfull video great job. I learned new defensive tactics because of you.
what a beautiful video, thank you, wish for more commentary on dogfighting 😊
Very helpful and i love the breakdown of the fights great video
This was probably the most informative video about flying I've seen yet, do you think its worth it to use a joystick/hotas for this game ?

What is the best way to handle BF109s with altitude pack?

Most people who use high alt package aren't really that good. If a good pilot is abusing it, you're probably never going to kill them.
Also if it's a map where you're American, level up your P-51K to also get high-alt package and punish them when they think you can't follow them.

How to setup the rear views from cockpit?
This is covered in the first section of the video about settings

my big problem is trying to change the yaw control to my mouse
Rudder (yaw) controls are A and D. Mouse is more roll, though in this game it's kind of a combination of the two .
