Brandon Jankuski That “squeal” you speak of is something he assumed more recently. Him hitting a pitch that high nowadays (and on key like that) is what was special about it. Based on footage I’ve seen, it seems “the squeal” is more a technique he uses to help hit higher pitches or sustain his voice. I would agree in that I’d prefer him not to do it- it is a reduction from the “old way”, but hey, id rather have Davey being the old Davey and squealing than not even attempting those older songs.
Comparing this performance to other of their more recent [broadcast] shows really brings home to me that not only do they still have that fire inside them, but that their more public shows are unfortunately suffering from deaf sound guy. Here they're definitely on point!
Thank you so f'n much for posting this it bring back great memories from the first time I saw them on the tour for this album! Best RUclips post of 2017 you f'n rock . Hopefully we get some of this old school set in Orlando! Did you by chance get to film he who laughs last?? If so please post!!!
Jeremy Jones unfortunately I didn't get any video of He who laughs last, I was still up front and going ape shit during that song haha. The only other full video I got was Morningstar that I uploaded earlier today.
Black Sails is such a good album, I remember I used to torture my step sisters back in 2004 with this album. They pretended they hated it but deep down they knew they liked it.
Davey used to be extremely adamant about his distaste of barriers at shows, because he likes the fans to be able to to go absolutely wild. I don’t know if he still is quite as adamant about that nowadays, especially now that most of their fans are of drinking age lol, but, you can definitely still see that spirit shine through very often, as he’s almost always doing some type of shit In the crowd lol.
They've been doing that since like 2001 actually. watch?v=vM8JwXJujQQ watch?v=K0lhRaVdzRc for comparison. It's not just these days. It's always been hard to sing for him.
My first AFI show ever and it couldn’t have been more perfect :’) What a fantastic night that was. Love this band forever🖤
An amazing night for sure!
This whole album was revolutionary!
It was all downhill from there too.
@@Jrk_1986 haha yeah. I enjoyed Art of Drowning, but after that I couldnt pursue their newer stuff
Davey's finishing cry at 2:48 is giving me chills. Repeat x 100. The young lad within still exists
Nick Tasooji a vocal tone long locked away is back. Hearing him sing perfect fit was amazing last night
Would love to hear a new album with some old school screams and cries built into a song or 2
I hate that shit. I'm a huge fan but that squeal he does is a no

wow
Funny that it sounds hip hop-ish when slowed down. Still love the fuck out of it.
Is no one going to comme t on the guy who stole davey's microphone?? That was hilarious! Glad he took it so well, that's their punk roots showing :D
