He, along with the pilot, messed up big time. This could have been entirely prevented and cost too many lives. It’s unbelievable they took the wrong runway, didn’t run a checklist, chatted about casual stuff in a critical moment (sterile cockpit) and were not the least surprised there were no lights on that runway.
When I fly I completely trust the pilots - this crash makes me think that I should be more careful if I expect someone like pilots to act responsibly and care for the souls on board their airplane.

most airports are not equipped with cameras to make the tower aware of every movements and some warning systems and electronic gates to make the tower and pilots aware of those major issues on the ground that would help to save hundreds of lives but if you say that to airport corporations and the civil aviation authority , they might tell you to send a feedback and they would always do it their way , this can be done a long time ago simply by making this kind of system to prevent those kind of errors and trap them before its too late because they can use the same technology that led to built an automated airplane i can describe it right now and its easy done before and now . before 1980 or even 70 this can be done by installing warning system on the ground co connected to tower where the tower trigger flash light and initiate a call to the cockpit providing that they have the correct tools and enough people employed and assinge an observer to monitor those airplane movements on the ground even if i have to employ 5 or 6 people extra its still worth it in the long run and i can also think of many other ways to improve and upgrade the old crapy airport systems they have at most airports all around the world

He is just as responsible as the pilot. Why are we treating him like a victim? The victims are the 48 passengers he and the pilot killed.

Yes, Comair Flight 5191 is well documented. Polehinke failed at basic duties.

Yes, they were both chit chatting instead of concentrating on the job at hand.

well he was the one flying so it pretty much is his fault the captain was pilot monitoring, def not a victim but I can def understand the insane guilt he must have

I’m curious - what flight certificates do you or anyone in this comment section hold? ATP, commercial, private?

Air traffic is also to blame, could have easily looked out and seen and said stop stop stop, that would have taken seconds to do, also the airport itself for not having something that could show that the runway was out of service
