- On 17th of August at Biggin Hill , the day before the 75th anniversary of the "hardest day", Keith Emerson co-pilots a Spitfire aircraft.
Music: Abaddon's Bolero by Keith Emerson ;
Beyond The Stars by Keith Emerson
Keith had called me to tell me he was co-piloting a spitfire. I knew how important it was to him and couldn't miss it and decided to make a film of it.
This film tells the story of Keith Emerson visiting the famous Biggin Hill the day before the 75th anniversary of the ‘Hardest Day’ to co-pilot a Spitfire airplane. It includes Keith’s recording of Abaddon’s Bolero and the premier of his new composition Beyond The Stars, which together provide the soundtrack of his Finest Hour.it was filmed with 2 Go pro cameras on board and with Keith also filming with my small Nikon Cool Pix.

Sometimes it's just nice to stop by here and watch a very happy Keith Emerson. Cheers to all who gave him that fine hour.
Glad he got to do this rest in peace Keith
You can tell that Keith really had a joyful time doing this. I still can't believe the news is true.
Thanks for all the wonderful music Keith RIP!
Fly in the sky Keith. Your music and your hands helped a lonely teenager. Not only one, sure.
To see Mr. Emerson's beautiful hands in close up was a rare treat
One of the greats - you will be missed. BUT oh, the gifts you left us. Many Thanks, Goodbye, and Good Night.
Happy 72st b'day Keith........ I miss you maestro ............... from Brazil!

Just heard the news of the death of my hero. Thank you and god bless.
Beyond the Stars is a beautiful new composition, with excellent arrangement!
Actually it's an old composition. It was called Serious Pursuit, and it was a demo by Emerson Lake and Powell in 1985. It had two versions, and one of them was meant to have lyrics, as Greg Lake is singing non verbal sounds, as the lyrics were not written for the song.

Rock on. Surprised you weren't playing piano on the wing.
Regards,
Charles from the front row
My first rock concert was ELP at Asbury Park, NJ. Keith Emerson blew me away! We lost a great one.....
Same here except it was Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. 1970.
R.I.P. & Godspeed sir, thank you so much to grace us with your talent during your time on this Earth.
What a lucky man he is. :) Good show That Man!
An extraordinary piece of film and devoted to those pilots who have lost their lives and for one special pilot who's fighting for is life, as we speak! Keith, you are a gentleman Sir! Your music has been an inspiration for many and being able to watch you enjoying this "finest hour" bought out the "kid" or at least our younger selves, in us and I for one enjoyed the opportunity to fly, even though vicariously, in one of the most famous aircraft the world has ever seen. Thank you.
Keith Emerson rules. Anyone who knows what he's done will agree with that. I guess that underrates him too, doesn't it? Thanks Stewart Young for the upload.
Beyond the stars now... Travel well, Keith! The world thanks you for all the wonderful music.
The Most Greatest...¡¡¡ YEAH...
Keith :( Tu m'as fait rêver depuis mes 15 ans et tu continueras longtemps à me faire rêver !
R.I.P Keith, my Hero .

Just one MORE of his finest hours. (I can recall quite a few of them on stage. And THANK YOU for those memories, and your wonderful contributions to music, sir!) You have earned your wings many times over!
Amazing Soundtrack ! God bless you Mr. Keith Emerson....Love from Brazil !
Happy Birthday in Heaven Keith!
Thanks for the music and inspiration. R.I.P
Bravo to you Keith! What a wonderful experience! Love the new composition Beyond The Stars! You are my hero!
Happy 71st b'day Keith... WYATB
Mr. Emerson you're still my favorite. No. 1
Most excellent Mr. Emerson!
Beyond the stars... I heard this in the unreleased demos of ELPowell recorded in 1985. Very well Mr. Emerson, I knew that deserved being revisited!!!!
+Ariel Mederdrut (Fuki Makai) I knew I heard this somewhere. Lake had lyrics for this, right?
There are 2 versions in "Space Gospel" collection of 1985 outtakes, both called Serious Pursuit. But nope, Lake sings gibberish lah-lahs, like he was thinking lyrics for the song but he don't finished as he don't recorded lyrics. The other version is entirely instrumental and sounds more like this new version.
Interestingly, the synth orchestral brasses arrangement, reminds a bit a rare version of unreleased ELP's theme Crossing the Rubicon (Godzilla FW Ending) featured as bonus demo tracks in that OST.
Since both Crossing the Rubicon and Serious Pursuit (now called Beyond the Stars) are still unedited themes, I guess there is a connection that Keith himself may ignore.
But well, Keith is revisiting a great forgotten unreleased track of 1985, I can't more than smile!
so beautiful. thank you thank you thank you for capturing this moment
Great! Keith you really love flight! One of the best keyboard player is flying in Spitfire! I used your song Learning to Flight also as soundtrack for my video Flight Over Channel La Manche. Thanks a lot.
Bravo Keith!
Sir, Great to you looking so fit and well.Best wishes from one of your devoted millions.
Godspeed Keith!...Thank you Sir! =)
What a wonderful experience! Sadly one of these beautiful machines crash landed not far from us in Woodchurch the other day but fortunately the pilot was ok. Long may they continue to grace the sky over the country they fought so hard to protect.
Well done Keith! You have brought me years of musical appreciation! I love the new arrangement of Abandons Bolero! I have been waiting for a new Emerson Lake and Palmer album. I hope that is a consideration!
Whoever gave this a thumbs down, we all give you a big and loud FU. Beautiful landscape.
The music fits perfectly !. RIP Keith and Greg .
One of my earliest and few most longstanding heroes in any field.
That was so much fun to watch , especially the beautiful scenery. As the plane rolled a 360° turn over in the sky did you think about when you rolled over while sitting on the piano on stage? Thanks for posting it Mr. Maestro Emerson and I like your new orchestral & keyboard piece "Into the Stars ".
Yes Maestro ! Good t see you in good shape and flying ! Cheers from Brazil !
Thank you so much for sharing this experience with us. What an amazing flight that must of been.
I am going to write this as best as I can. I first heard The Nice, (playing America) blaring out from a green MG hatchback, outside Harlow swimming pool in 1968. I was 11/12 years old; for whatever reason the music lodged itself into the mind of this child. I was in care at the time. Four years passed, and, now that I had a job and the all important means; I went out and bought all of the Nice' back catalogue and all of ELP, King Crimson, Yes, Gentle Giant, Triumvirat, Genesis, Tangerine Dream, Amon Dull et al, (over a period of time) I found myself in a world of endless possibilities; either through: literature, art and of course music. These things are created from the souls of human beings; and can enlighten all those who are willing to try and see beyond that which is nothing more than an artificial construct to keep us all in line. Musicians, artists, writers and free-thinkers are the anathema to those who naively believe that the rights to us all have been sold the moment that we're born in furtherance of their vile objectives to destroy us all.See, that's what listening to The Nice, did for me. Freedom of speech. thought and reason are our greatest gifts as human beings. I wept when I learned of Keef's passing. It hurt me, deeply. I never met the man, I admit; but, he made me think. Now, that ain't such a bad thing, is it? I aplogise for rattling on, so much.Pease forgive me.Thank you Keef for opening the mind of small child, one summers day outside Harlow swimming pool in 1968. Thank you, Keef, ( I'm listening to: Diamond Hard Blue Apples of the Moon, at the moment.) RIP Maestro.
Wonderful post Paul, Keith's music and a lot of his Prog contemporaries has had a similar effect on me over the years.
Touching words, dear Paul. Take care. God bless you. Best energies from Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Great intro and plane

So Cool !
Supermarine developed a two-seat variant known as the T Mk VIII to be used for training, but none were ordered, and only one example was ever constructed (identified as N32/G-AIDN by Supermarine).[124] In the absence of an official two-seater variant, a number of airframes were crudely converted in the field. These included a 4 Squadron SAAF Mk VB in North Africa, where a second seat was fitted instead of the upper fuel tank in front of the cockpit, although it was not a dual-control aircraft and is thought to have been used as the squadron "run-about".[125] The only unofficial two-seat conversions that were fitted with dual-controls were a small number of Russian lend/lease Mk IX aircraft. These were referred to as Mk IX UTI and differed from the Supermarine proposals by using an inline "greenhouse" style double canopy rather than the raised "bubble" type of the T Mk VIII.[125]
In the postwar era, the idea was revived by Supermarine and a number of two-seat Spitfires were built by converting old Mk IX airframes with a second "raised" cockpit featuring a bubble canopy. Ten of these TR9 variants were then sold to the Indian Air Force along with six to the Irish Air Corps, three to the Royal Netherlands Air Force and one for the Royal Egyptian Air Force.[124] Currently several of the trainers are known to exist, including both the T Mk VIII, a T Mk IX based in the U.S., and the "Grace Spitfire" ML407, a veteran flown operationally by 485(NZ) Squadron in 1944.[126][nb 14]
:( Saludos Keith donde quiera que estes...
Almost expected to see Aquatarkus at the base of those white cliffs.
Super
Nice Rolex you got there, Keith!
Beyond the Stars was called Serious Pursuit and was in the demos recorded by ELPowell back in 1985. It belongs to a number of unedited songs composed but never recorded officialy. There were two versions. The instrumental one, and a different version with Lake singing dah-dahs, this means Lake wanted to put lyrics to this song, but the lyrics were never written or recorded. This synth-orchestral version takes the first version as guide. Hope Mr. Emerson could someday do something with his unedited compositions, such as Crossing the Rubicon suite (which some people say they listened the instrumental demo but I don't get it) or more of that 80s hidden jewels. Come on, Mr. Keith!

Grandeeeee Keith. The sherif
luckily there is RUclips !!!
As we all sing “ the white cliffs of Dover”
RIP Keith!
Thanks Keith... But you are now flying beyond the stars, as the title of this new version of the demo track by ELPowell says...
His hand was yelling in pain and he didn't take it anymore and shot himself RIP
I will not cease from mental fight;
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
Til we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.
a very sad time in music history !
He chased his dreams and caught them
I wouldn't mind flying in a Spitfire myself. Except the Beachy Head flight costs over £4,000.
Was gonna make a joke about what a lucky man you are but I better not
Yes he was .... RIP Keith .....
Al Oft Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for not making that joke.
I really respect you, and honour you for using tact, and restraint.
He had a wonderful life and career, but sadly his luck took a real downward spiral when his health went down.
He was an innocent victim of focal distonia.
He was the best.
I never got a hug from my own dad. I got a hug from Emerson twice.
Thank you for not rippin on Keith. He was the GREATEST.
Czyli mieliśmy podobne fascynacje..
What they call a clear day in England .

Not really a Spitfire, its a variant trainer maybe even post war
Spitfires in combat were single seaters
Is that important really .... Or appropriate ?
No doubt. Keith is God
Rest in Peace Keith :'(
What a terrible day, all these greats who were born during WWII are leaving us, but their music lives on :').
It figures he's flying in my fave Warbird ^_^.
