Mr. Electric Might be worth considering making a tutorial on gen3 inverter coolant pump replacement. There are ZERO on ytube and lots of desire from the prius community
I had a mechanic replace the pump that I purchased from the Toyota dealer along with the thermostat .And right after 8 month I started getting air in the system that I bled myself then for some reason now I am getting the water pump code again . Any similar experience with those ? I know there is no head gasket issue at all since I am no loosing any coolant and no smoke or coolant oil mixture so that was confusing enough for me could it be a corrupted module error ? Do these pump need coding after install ? i don't think the mechanic I used for this job would have done any coding though .
prius 2014 doesnt have error code with torque or OBD2 haryy app and neither does the temp alert light on the dash - senior mechanik at toyota dealer found advised to replace the engine water pump and the thermostat at the same time since it didnt activate when my car was bellowing steam out and only the engine light came on from that
... Engine Electric Water Pump magnet For Toyota Prius 10-15 CT200h 161A0-29015 impeller only is available for only $29.99 so im planing on changing mine (10 year 100kmi) as a preventive maintenance item. fresh coolant also. Thanks ... KC ..!
I just got the 261b error code but it was on a 100 degree day. I want to replace it asap. It's the original pump and I have 248,000 miles on it. Did you have to drain any of the coolant or did you just remove the pump and catch the coolant?
Do you know if the Gen 4 pump is the same procedure to replace? To me it looks like it is but mechanics are quoting me 8 hours labor. There is no information anywhere on the Gen 4. Please help.
I have always waited until it fails but replacement before failure makes more sense since it risks major engine damage to let it fail while driving. I don’t know when to recommend replacement but if I had to guess 150k miles or 240k kilometers Keep in mind a cheap aftermarket pump may do more harm than good, I would buy a real Toyota pump.
@@Mrelectric423 I am about to change the spark plugs on my Prius V 2013 since I got everything out cleaning the intake manifold and EGR cooler. Do you recommend NGK Laser Iridium spark plugs or Denso Iridium spark plugs that are available at the dealer ? Thank you.
I've never had problem using rtv high sealant. ThT would be your choice, but if you are using ready made gasket, it's unnecessary. It's being squeezed to seal the gap as is by tightening the bolt.
How did you know it was the water pump? My issue is that it works until I reach speeds over 50 then the red light comes on. Also, it is 15lbs on the first 3 short bolts and I believe 20 on the two longer ones. Also, is it a must to use that pink stuff or can you use any antifreeze?
@@Mrelectric423 Thanks for the quick reply! I'm going to change mine out tomorrow - although the Check Engine light today is no longer on my display. Could it be due to the cold weather? Going to plug in my OBD II again and if the P261B code is still present I'll change it out. Weird.
So how do you reset or correct the codes? I have a plug in that I can reset but I dunno if that's good enough or will it just know it's working and check hybrid system code go away?
Some codes go away after 4 on- off key cycles . Others require an advanced scantool. Advance scantools like autel have dropped in price to under $200. All of this assumes that the original issue is resolved.
I do enjoy the video, just a bit of advice, could you tell us (the viewers) what noises or signs what we need to look for, to detect if the pump is defective?
It is a code and check engine light that serves to warn us that the pump is going bad. There is no strange noise when it fails (at least in my experience)
@@Mrelectric423 Seemed too simple! :) I've had folks attempt their own inverter coolant pump replacements on Gen2. After a drain, the system is air locked, and it won't even bleed out w/o pressure/suction. Customer doesn't understand what they did wrong. Gen2 engine coolant is typically more involved too.
You don’t need the pedal depressed, you can just put it in a maintenance mode that way the engine will always be on
Great………👍👍👍 my dad’s Prius water pump just stop working today now I can’t wait to get my hands get dirty.. thanks man really great simple video
now that i owns a prius i don't miss any of your videos. thank you for share your knowledge with us ..👏👏
Awesome video! I'm about to do this myself and I'm happy to see it isn't too hard to do it without removing the tire.
Tks so much now my prius is working fine again
Thank you for this guide! I pulled the same code on my Gen 3, glad it’s not anything more serious!
Ignore the code = blown head gasket.
You look like you are in SF. Do you do house calls? No problems yet, purchased 2012 Prius yesterday. You seem very competent!
Really good video! Next time just put the prius (in my case ct200h) in maintenance mode and it will keep the engine running.
How put in maintenance mode?
Thanks sir. That was very helpful. Back in business!
You don’t need to push the gas pedal , just turn on the heat and engine still running, Prius has 3 water pump , Thanks for make video
Excellent teacher. To the point and straightforward. Is this pump the same as the "inverter coolant pump " ?
Thank you!
The coolant pump is different than the inverter pump.

I would replace the pump again. If it malfunctions the engine will be ruined.
Great video, how much cost is a new inverter water pump?

You can turn on the maintenance mode and continuously running it
I know but I just do it this way
How did you know the pump was failing?
Mine is overheating with no check engine light, replaced the thermostat but same problem
@@Lilchrisc123 the vehicle in the video had a code
do you know if prius c water tank also show turbulence
Nice video...Did you use an after market pump or oem?
I am not sure it was a while ago and customer provided parts.

My prius 2010 model, losing coolant recently, do I need to replace the water pump?
Find the leak first. Then order parts.
At how much kilometres100k-200k ?
We should change the pump?

Nice Video. So, is it ok to use RTV sealant along the outer side of the rubber seal or is it unnecessary ? Thank you and I subscribed.
I would not use sealant, but there are many ways to do a repair job I am just reporting my guess on the best practice.

What's warning light will come on
check engine light, code in video description
Dumb question but you didn't have to fully drain the coolant out of the radiator?
About half the coolant drains out once the pump comes off. Refilled after the job.

I am not sure what causes the head gasket issues.
Are thise pump same for Honda accord hyprid 2015?
Honda is probably a different story but I am not sure.

what it the code came on but turned off?
Dangerous situation. If the pump fails again engine can overheat quickly.
No bleeding?
Just the process described in the video

i got p261C means water pump?
That code means no power to the pump. Is ther any rodent damage to wiring in the car.
@@Mrelectric423 no i took look but the wiring seems to be fine. i even check the fuse . and still ok.

Nice job .

hmmm no belt. no tensioner. NICE
Of course it does matter! Wth 🤦♂️
The water pump is ruined because you sir can’t rotate the impeller freely, it’s stuck
