    I still think Spectre is the worst Bond film. Yeah most of Moore's tenure as Bond is 70s/80s cheese, but I'll take cheesey and boring over ugly and boring anyday.

    As a fan of Roger Moore's Bond, I'll say Moonraker was his worst, but it's even that's better and not even half as woke as Daniel Craig's shit version of Bond films. Not to mention Roger Moore's Bond films held their own against summer blockbusters.
    Hell, even Moonraker held its own against the first Alien film with Sigourney Weaver.
    The other examples include:
    The Spy Who Loved Me holding its own against Stars Wars;
    For Your Eyes Only holding its own against Raiders Of The Lost Ark;
    Octopussy holding its own against Return Of The Jedi and beating Never Say Never Again in the battle of the Bonds;
    A View To A Kill holding its own against Back To The Future.

  • @halfmonkhalfhitman2799
    @halfmonkhalfhitman2799 2 года назад +1

    Loved the video! Surprised by the landslide victory.
    Honestly I think both films are a little better than they've been given credit for. Initially I was bored by Octopussy's slow plot, but I've come to appreciate the intrigue, as I don't think it's pushed aside nearly as much. Like you, I have trouble with the silliness, but I think there's a more cerebral film brewing underneath. AVTAK has similar problems, as you alluded, but takes its subject matter more seriously. The thread between the horse racing and the Silicon Valley stuff is SUPER thin, and I'm surprised you didn't focus on that as much.
    For me, these are the lower-middle of Moore's tenure, but not the bottom. Moonraker might hold together a little better, but it's outlandishness is more egregious to me than that of Octopussy. But ultimately TMWTGG is bottom of the pile for me. It's slow, dated, has gaping plot holes and contrivances, and aside from a decent sense of tension building to the final showdown, it doesn't offer much in the way of plot or action. So that's the worst Moore in my book.
    Top two Moores: The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only. LALD coming in 3rd. Looking forward to seeing which two you compare for the best of the Roger era.
    Since there are 7 to choose from, would you consider a third video comparing the remaining 3 films you rank in the middle?
    Great stuff. Knock Knock joke and Penelope Smallbone meme: gold. Keep 'em coming!

    • @ClearCritique
      @ClearCritique  2 года назад +1

      The top 2 Moore one is coming soon, but I don't know if I would review the middle films. Partly because this video isn't doing that well, and partly because I want to get into some horror videos. I'll think about it. Thanks for commenting! Glad to hear the knock knock joke worked on some people.
      Also, TMWTGG was close to making the bottom 2, but Scaramanga saved it.

    • @halfmonkhalfhitman2799
      @halfmonkhalfhitman2799 2 года назад

      @@ClearCritique Totally understandable. Maybe something for way down the road. Just thinking if you compare top two and bottom two for Connery as well, then there will only be 5 films out of the entire series that you won't have reviewed (middle 3 Moores and middle 2 Connerys). So close to the full set...

    For the 2 worst Roger Moore bond movies I would have had View to a Kill vs Moonraker or alternatively The Man with the Golden Gun. I do hate the goofy stuff in Octopussy like the Tarzan cry and the Tiger encounter and gender agenda hasn't aged well at all, but the movie wasn't bad and even the best Roger Moore movies including The Spy Who Loved Me had cheesy moments - especially the endings. As for worst Bond movie - A View to a Kill has to compete with Die another Day and Quantum of Solace I would say.

    Octopussy builds much better a great climatic scene...A view to a Kill is just awful from Beach Boys surfing to Transamerica Pyramid. Both movies haven't aged well but Octopussy makes a lot more sense than A View to a Kill. For the record...worst James Bond movie hands down without question.....is Quantam of Solace. That's a train wreck getting nuked while falling off the Golden Gate Bridge!!

    Come on, man. Have you not seen The Man With the Golden Gun and Moonraker? Easily the worst two in the entire franchise after Diamonds are Forever, which is hands down the WORST Bond film. Octopussy is actually pretty good through most of it, and A View To A Kill is just kind of meh, but not as bad as the two I mentioned.

  • @iammrbadguy9706
    @iammrbadguy9706 Год назад

    Neither of them is the worst of the franchise, and given both are comedies, by the way that Octopussy is actually way funnier and has nicely done action, as well as an interresting plot(that isn´t Goldfinger with a Silicon Valley Juppy instead of Aurich Goldfinger), I much prefer Octopussy.
    It is remarkable how a movie with Bond in a clown suite and him doing Tarzan Jells also had him save not only the whole of West Berlin, but possibly the whole of western Europe.
    And in a way Moore being older plays in his favor, because his strenghts were never fighting, but rather his intelligence and ability to get women on his side by seducing them.
    The Bond-Girl in Octopussy is also much better, because she is an intelligent actress that plays the matriarchichal figure of Octopussy well, instead of whatever Tanja Roberts was playing.
    The villain in Octopussy is good, but this is one of two points in which View to Kill wins, because Walken, also playing a Goldfinger Copycat, is more engaging, and Mayday is a better hench-woman.
    The other point of superiority for View to Kill is the theme song, and the music overall just barely wins out, because it is more energetic and iconic...unless you often watch Ted 1 and hear all time high.

    There's no contest here. Octopussy is bad, but it's fun and even has one of the greatest Bond gambling scenes. There is not a single redeeming anything in A View to a Kill. It is not only Moore's worst entry, it is the worst film in the entire franchise and one of the top 5 (maybe even top 3) worst films I have ever seen in my life, and I have seen some truly awful films. There are only 3 films in the franchise I can say you can skip. Moonraker, Die Another Day and the heaping pile that is A View To A Kill.

    'The Man With The Golden Gun' and 'A View To A Kill'. I'm not a fan of 'Octopussy', but it is better than either. 'TMWTGG' forced a re-think by EON and they're going all out to revive the franchise. 'AVTAK' was tired, stale, static and routine.

  • @aruiz90
    @aruiz90 Год назад

    I would argue Octopussy has aged much better with time whereas A View to a Kill I would easily say is Moore's worst. Octopussy has some good action and a Cold War plot and everything in AVTAK just comes off as a tired rehash.

    great video. however i don’t think doing a best two comparison would fit for this actor, at least not in the way it did with the other actors.
    a comparison between moonraker and the spy who loved me would make way more sense as moonraker is basically a remake of its predecessor.
    also live and let die and man with the golden gun make relative sense as a comparison.
    not sure what you can do with for your eyes only though.
