This is the Chinese version of "Ikanaide", which was written by Koji Tamaki. It is about a Chinese-born Japanese actress, Yoshiko Yamaguchi, living in China under the name of Li Xiang Lan. The Chinese audiences loved her until after WW 2 when her real identity was uncovered. She was deported to Japan and supposedly never returned to China. Dimash learned this song in one week. This was performed when Dimash was a contestant on The Singer 2017, so, all of his songs were live performances with only one week to learn them. I don't remember any of the Chinese reactors commenting on this song, but, there were several Japanese reactors who said that his Japanese was perfect for singing Ikanaide. I love both songs, but the way he ended "Ikanaide", gave me chills on top of chills. There is a series of 12 videos entitled The Ultimate Guide to Dimash you may want to watch. They cover Dimash from his childhood and through his career. There are interviews with so many people who have known Dimash in some way or another over the years. You will learn a great deal. Perhaps you will share them as reaction videos.

👉 That song was the 4. song in the competition. "The Singer 2017" was not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers and a mega-star was born overnight. The next day, bodyguards stood in front of his door.
This song is very popular in China. The version based on a true story.. very touching: It is about Yoshiko Yamaguchi (*1920-2014), a Chinese-born Japanese actress during World War II. She hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan and became famous in China. However, when the war was over and she revealed her identity, she was accused of being a spy. She was deported to Japan and longed for China. Ms. Yamaguchi did not return to China until many years as deputy environment minister in the Japanese parliament.
In 1993, Jacky Cheung adapted the Japanese song into Chinese Mandarin, calling it Late Autumn. The most famous interpretation In China (first performance at the Singer 2017) was that of Dimash Qudaibergen and it was his first time to sing in Chinese mandarin and is about autumn, farewell, sadness ... but also about accepting the unchangeable.
This song brought Dimash the 'Best Foreign Singer' award at the Golden Melody Award 2017 (equivalent to the Grammy) in Hong Kong.
The Chinese (Autumn Strong) and the Japanese version (Ikanaide) have totally different lyrics and meanings… and of course Dimash sings both very differently.
- The Chinese version shows the image of leaves dancing in the autumn wind as a metaphor for how fate affected Yoshiko Yamaguchi's life. ...sad but inevitable and irrevocably
- The Japanese version does not want to accept the loss, is full of pain, pleads, suffers ... heartbreaking. You should react to “Ikanaide”.

Autumn Strong was the 4th performance of The Singer competition in China in 2017. This was the first song he sang in Mandarin. He was so grateful to his Chinese audience for welcoming him so warmly that he wanted to say thank you in this way. He only had a week to learn the lyrics and the correct pronunciation. That was very important to him. A really tough job. From the reaction of the audience you can see that he has mastered it with flying colors. Many Chinese reactors also said that his pronunciation was almost perfect. Autumn Strong is a song he always sings in his concerts. Every time it is a very emotional moment.

Another very emotional song is Daybreak also from The Singer competition.
I highly recommend you to watch the version with the story behind on the Gloria Wu channel first and then the one from his Bastau concert. It was the 8th performance of this competition. I don’t think there are copyright issues, because the videos on this channel are already edited and there are English subtitles.
I think you will appreciate the Bastau version even more if you’ve seen The Singer version before. In my opinion, it loses at bit of its impression, if you don’t know why he sings, the way he sings. Please it's really important, that you see the version from the Gloria Wu channel first🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏with English subtitles. This song tells a very sad but true story.
In the Singer version he was so sick and had a severe sore throat and fever. He lost his voice the night before his performance of Daybreak. I heard him say in an interview that it was very painful throughout the song, that his throat feels like shredded glass but he didn’t want to disappoint the people who stand behind him and so he pulled himself together and went on stage. He got 5 injections from this doctor in the hospital. And the doctor told him not to sing high notes. You can see how concerned the other competitors were and they suffered with him. They knew he was not doing well and one of them even gave him a very expensive Chinese medicine from his own inventory. The problem was his busy schedule between the performances and he didn’t have enough time to recover. He made very good friends there and many friendships still exist today. After the performance he lost his voice again.
It’s unbelievable how he always manages to convey emotions to such a degree. Though I think in this one particular version the emotions he shows are mostly concern about his voice keeping up with the song and the pain he must have been in doing it.
The Bastau version (no sore throat) of Daybreak is phenomenal and mind-blowing. So emotional and heartbreaking. Maybe you can do both together. Many reactors do and so you can see the difference between this two performances.
In both versions I always cry my eyes out. I don’t know why I have to cry more. Because of the story or the fact, that he was in such pain and performed anyway because he didn’t want to disappoint the audience. Both version were in the same year 2017.

What I love about the Chinese competitors is that they don’t behave like competitors. Everyone wishes everyone luck. Everyone watches the other’s performance. Clap, sing along. In my opinion, no one begrudges the success of another. They might not have taken Dimash seriously at first, but that quickly changed after SOS. Through ist honest, cheerful and open nature, he found friends very quickly.

Dimash sings many songs in Chinese and all of them are beautiful. I suggest you to check Our Love from The Masked Singer in China, Battles of memories from his YT channel, War and peace from his concert in Kiev, Ocean over the time, Daybreak from Bastau concert. The Chinese people adore him. Thinking that a video showing Dimash eating a pear in the Shanghai airport was seen by 240 millions people in China in 24h and that day was declared "Pear day" says a lot about their love and admiration for him. As much as I love the MV of Battle of Memories, his concert performances are unmatched. This song is one of those many songs where his lives are infinitely better than the studio version.

I've never listened to Chinese songs, but when Dimash sings in Chinese, it gets its own magic. But the same thing happens with Russian. Thanks for responding to Autumn Strong. There are such wonderful videos of performances in his concerts of this song. I've heard native speakers in Italian, Spanish and Japanese praising his pronunciation. He didn't speak Chinese at all in 2017, but now he certainly know much more.

I believe Dimash makes all languages sound melodic and beautiful. Chinese songs sound amazing when he sings (and I don't like how the Chinese language sounds in day-to-day conversation). I love his Kazakh songs too now as well, though some took some time...

Dimash has a playlist of interviews in his channel. One of the best ones is the one in his own country, in two parts. He could talk in his own language, so his answers were more eleborated, I think he feels very comfortable... Just look for a video named "ПЕРВОЕ ИНТЕРВЬЮ ДИМАША телеканалу Қазақстан | Первая часть (RU субтитры)" and second part: ДИМАШ - интервью о пути становления казахстанского артиста | Вторая часть (RU субтитры) (I couldn't post a link here... The YT didn't let me do it). There is English subtitiles (in fact there is more than 10 diferent languages subtitles). They talk about his childhood, his work, you will love it. Hug from Brazil!

The Chinese and Japanese lyrics say very different things, so Dimash knows enough to sing accordingly. They were emotional because he was going to sing in their language. And I've heard Chinese reviewers say he astounded them. Oops I heard your comment after I typed this, so I probably told you that.
