Turkey was awesome, so many great experiences, as an historian I was on a constant high. The people were so friendly. For instance when we stopped for fuel, the majority of the time we could not leave until we had a cup of tea with the chaps that served us. The only time we struck rudeness was at two archeological digs one was French And the other was Italian, they were so full of themselves, I even showed them my university credentials. They still would not let on the site.

Excellent job. One of the best videos I have seen about Turkiye. (No longer Turkey folks!) Yes, I have visited several times. I am afraid they ran out of time to mention few more things! Food and Anitkabir where the founder of republic, Ataturk is buried in capital city, Ankara come to my mind. Actually, there are not many things of importance or significance left behind in Greece by the Ottomans.....
One of the most important things is that Ottoman piece of furniture in people's living room!
Additionally, the Turks changed all the Greek names in Ionia, Kapadokia and Pontus, that existed from antiquity, to "Mongoloid" names and having no shame!

After all, the eastern Mediterranean world (including Greece and Asia Minor) was conquered by the Romans shortly after 200 BC.
After the death of Alexander the great, Greek lands were divided into three major kingdoms:
- Antigonids in Macedonia
- Seleucids in Asia Minor, Syria and Mesopotamia
- Ptolemies in Egypt
The kingdom in Macedonia was ended by Romans when they beat the Philp V of Macedonia at the battle of Cynoscephalae in 197 BC.
The kingdom of Seleucids was ended when the Romans beat Antiochus III at the battle of Magnesia in Asia Minor in 190 BC.
Then the slave life for the Greeks started in Macedonia, Asia Minor etc.
There were no independent state for the next 2000 years and they disappeared from the map of the world as a separate political entity.
The mastership of the Greeks was passed on to Eastern Roman empire after the collapse of Western Roman empire in Rome circa 5th century AD.
So by the time Turks appeared at the gates of Asia Minor at 1071 AD, the master of these lands were the Eastern Romans (Byzantines), not Greeks.
Yes perhaps Greek language was still spoken at these lands, but that did not change the fact that the people of Ancient Greece pretty much already faded away into the dust bin of history and only their language survived.
The fact that Byzantines spoke Greek language does not make then Greek.
For ex, during our times, many countries speak English, but that does not make them British.
So in short, when Turks captured the lands of Asia Minor a thousand years ago, they got it from Byzantines (Eastern Romans) not Greeks.
Greece and Greeks after being forgotten for almost 2000 years, they re-appered in the pages of history again in 1830 when they managed to gain their independence from the Ottomans, after being ruled by them for almost 400 years.
Turkish culture can be seen in many different cultures like Syria, Iraq, and Iran and in their food also😍This documentary is really well put together.
