@Sam Kay A very intelligent comment. I can understand why people idealize the Amish lifestyle, but I doubt they are really aware of what it actually entails.
I want to live there. My maternal grandparents were born in Millersburg, Ohio, Amish country. I have the greatest respect for these people. I wish all of America could be this way.
The world is full of wonders. It’s a wonderful world with the Amish people around. Lots of love and respect from the other side of the planet ---- India.
God bless the Amish people of Lancaster County PA. They are great people as of farmers, carpenters, restaurants, etc. I like their videos as of how they live in today's world. I am from New Brunswick, Canada and I am planning on taken a trip there on a tour bus next year.

I really want to come and visit Lancaster County, PA to visit the Amish Village. I think they are very interesting people. They are very hard working and I admire the way they keep their culture and traditions.
if you look at the definition of cult, it describes every religion there is, You need to be careful of the dangerous ones and the Amish is not one of them. Open your mind and learn from them.
Corynne Christiansen I've been to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and it's beautiful country!!!!!! I went in 1988 with a tour group. Yes, the Amish are very interesting.
Very interesting interview. I'm from Melbourne, Australia & I don't think we have any Amish people here. I'd certainly be very interested to visit an Amish community one day. It seems like a very clean & wholesome way of life in many ways.
That video was so interesting. Lancaster County, which I have visited several times, is one of the most beautiful areas in this country. I find the Amish to be good people who just want to be left alone and go about their lives.
I am so impressed with just how clean and well put together their farms and houses are. It’s unbelievable and certainly breathtaking. You won’t find farms that clean anywhere else in the country. I admire their way of life
I am glad that I am not the only one who would love to live near the Amish people. We, in my culture in New York State, also do not put our elderly in nursing homes. So what if we are not comfortable or do not have our personal space, we take care of our parents. They gave us a good home, and they deserve to live in good and loving surroundings with their families.
This video is brilliant and it makes a lot of valid points I think the Amish live the way God intended people to live Everything in their life can be explained and well understood that gives people a feeling of connection
Now that I’m older, I would love to live in an Amish community, not become Amish but live around them. I’ve been there, it is so peaceful. I don’t like todays society
I agree. I would love to live around the Amish and the Mennonites. They are proof that a society does better when just about everyone has the same core values and beliefs. Ruben was excellent in this interview, he is obviously well versed in his profession. Well done.
A lot of people think that, but you wouldn’t want to. You can start living that way without joining the community. Just be ok with working non stop from 4 or 5am until sundown, having no higher education and get used to repetitive and boring tasks as your only form of entertainment. They shun the outside world until they need it, and example is hospitals. It’s not as perfect as these people make it sound. I lived near an Amish community for several years and I heard some awful stories from women who left. They particularly have a hard life.
@Jo Gill Do you really want to talk about being uneducated honey? I'm a Republican and this is a cult. Maybe get yourself educated on the Amish life instead of believing these videos. I suggest you also take some history courses so you can see the past cult-like behaviors that have the very same tactics as the Amish community. Thank you so much for the wonderful information you have shared. I love the Amish way of life and that they are a real example of families living and serving Heavenly Father.
It's about like my grandparents farm without electricity and vehicles. I would love to be able to take a vacation in amish country and to just be able to join a family in their daily lives, to really experiance their lives.
Markus Williams they aren’t a cult. I live in Lancaster county and love working with the Amish. They’re the nicest people and truly live an amazing life. The laundry comment is weird, since they haven't washed clothes by hand in generations, and most have washing machines at home. No dryers allowed. They will hang wash on long, high clothes lines in the driving rain, or pounding snow, if they need to. It drys eventually. They frequently use English taxi, van and local trucking services, since it's the practical way to do the job of going 20 miles to Costco, or shipping goods across the county. Nothing I discussed make them any less Amish, or less obedient to their beliefs.

@@ontoyoualways9183 Had you bothered to see the remark I replied to, you wouldn't have wasted your time with that moot remark. I was referring to them wanting to join- "become" Amish after being an outsider/ English/outsider. My mother left the Amish as a teenager when she left for Rumspringa in Ohio. So I am extremely well versed about the Amish, aside from living not far from two vacinities of Amish and Mennonites. And they dont need us English/outsiders for transportation. They have and would much rather deal with Mennonites then 'others' or 'English'. Most (note I say most, not all, only deal with others or English when they have to.They much prefer dealing with Mennonites for the things they need that they are not permitted to have or use,by their laws. And they do NOT under any circumstances ever deal with anyone that left the AMISH,or their children even decades later regardless of the reason that they left even if it was their (the Amish's) fault. I have had positive and negative experiences with the Amish, but would never want to live under their rules.
@@beethechange257 you just want argue for the sake to argue.Where did I ever say it's forbidden to accept outsiders as friends which is what I was referring to???you obviously like to turn words around. So show me!! And NO ONE is Ever accepted into the Amish who is not born into the amish. You are 100percent wrong. Keep believing that all you want. Being raised by an Amish mother I believe I know far more than you could ever even though you "talk" with some friendly ones.Believe me talking with some friendly Amish there is no possibility they would open up about all their hidden life styles. They are ALL forbidden to.If they told outsiders inside secrets they would be thrown out themselves without even a chance to defend themselves. If you knew as much as you proclaimed to know you would know that much.Even the friendly one have to be very careful and secretive. It depends on their and their immeduate families very existence to staying IN the Amish. They have to protect themselves and their families and lifestyles. You clearly know very little about the Amish. No matter how much you would question your Amish friends you would never get full honest answers. They can not answer you without putting themselves at risk. You really only know the basics.and to question them would only make them nervous and scare them."IF" you knew the Amish you would know All that. Sounds more like you've read some books and are now proclaiming to be a know it all.You say too many things that are not true.
Delightful gentleman giving the tour!! Interesting information. Btw, our farm is fully electric but there are no power lines to be seen. Everything is underground.
May I make the following suggestions? (1) study your Bible (2) research the history of the Anabaptists. There are a lot of videos on youtube, History is very important to the Amish. (3) Goggle their weekly newspaper The Budget and get a 6 months subscrition. It will be very informative and helpful (4) If you can locate an Amish congregation near you, ask to meet with their leadership for guidance...if they are not available, try to find a Mennonite congregation. Hope this helps. Your age wont hinder you...remember the Amish/Mennonite life is a life and mindset based entirely on God and family. God bless youin your search.
It’s not what you think it is. Looks great from the outside in but reality is totally different within the church. It’s all about control and conformity whether you agree or not. This is a cult at its essence. Trust me we just escaped.
The reason for The private schools is also partly because of the teaching of evolution in public schools!! The Amish very strongly believe that we were created by God!! This man really impresses me!! Because he is not bitter like so many ex Amish are!!
And rightly so (bitter) have you heard the stories? not all amish communities are good. Many are controlling and abusive. you shouldnt judge when you dont know the facts...
I would be bitter too if I was lied to all my life and then forced out of my community for having critical thinking skills but I would get over it and most do. There are a lot of ex-Amish who are not bitter but still hurt but they're not as media-worthy as the bitter, wild ones.
As i listen and see this Video,it's very interesting to equate these values to what i experienced in the country parts of Jamaica 60 odd years ago.We never had electricity,no refrigerators, never send our seniors to nursing homes, the children were taught early to do chores, school work, etc. Just a simple disciplined way of life which worked very well. This video brought back good memories of my childwood days, and lives with me forever. God continue to Bless your efforts.
The Amish are not exactly "religious". It is a way of life. Their Bible is in German that they can't read since their language is Pennsylvania Dutch. They don't study the Bible. They follow the Bishops rules. Each order has different rules. Figure that out.
Occasionally, you may find Amish with their own party-line magneto phones, on which they can call each other but not connected with the telecommunications network.
good question, when I used to deliver in and around Lancaster, they would lower or turn their head if I tried to snap a picture of them and their horses
I was thinking the same thing because he said he is not but she is Amish. If you take a picture of them, they will go to an elder and self report to them they had a pic taken of them. Effectively self shunned by themselves for a week or so to redevote their beliefs.
There are Amish communities and churches as well in the Philippines. Seriously. I saw them in their traditional attire buying bulk of diesel at the gas station.
It's not the zombie apocalypse you have to worry about, it is the return of Jesus Christ.. and from what I am learning about the Amish and what I know about the bible, they'll be in good shape on that day.
They are not that straight laced than you might think . I have seen older amish men out at night and they stopped at our pond party and they sat and drank with us . The kids sometimes goes out and drink and listen to music and a few other things .
The kids are not members of the church until they make that decision. The Amish are Anabaptists-they do not believe in infant baptism. The young people are allowed for a time, much freedom-in their late teens and maybe early twenties.
I admire these people and if they are happy and secure in their way of life more power to them. This society of ours could learn a lot of good from these people's ways. Progress is not all what it's cracked up to be ... not by a long shot ... and for those who need a more worldly experience and a breakout from tradition... go for it ... whatever brings you peace and fulfillment
I live in the middle of this Amish settlement. Like others above have stated, this is a cult. You are not an individual, you do not have free will. If you decide to study the bible or discuss your concerns, doubts or other beliefs with others in your community, they can and will toss you out. If you think peace and happiness is working like a dog, six days a week, from before sun up to dark, being educated at an elementary level, with a lot of subjects simply ignored, and not being allowed to do anything that you are used to, as a free person, go for it. If you are a woman with an opinion, a believer in evolution, a believer in anything above a crude and basic education, somebody that would like to jump in the car and go on vacation, somebody that believes in equality, or free thought, or hundreds of other things you can not do, talk about, or think about, as an Amish person, it's not your gig.
If you want to go to Amish country.you could always come to geauga.county.Ohio.come to Middlefield .Ohio .the Amish flea market. & Swiss cheese factorys.and salvage stores.Georgia rd. & Newcomb rd & mespo.vist her also.
The Amish are in Lancaster county because they came into the country through Philadelphia but that's where they found suitable land. Read up on William Penn and how he settled the land. The guide knows a lot about the "lifestyle" and events but should really study up on the history of the people and why they are who they are.
Curious, many people are saying how wonderful the Amish culture is, whilst they sit in heated buildings, with easy access to electricity and the internet. We have an abundance of technologies available to us, let us not romanticise a way of life which very few of us would want to live on a daily basis.
You can spend time on an actual farm. If you take a shower, don't be surprised if the warm water stops after you have just soaped up ! We used to take our children quite often. We wanted them to see other cultures, and understand them. After my husband's mother died we took his father down to the Amish Country, and even got him to take a ride in an Amish buggy. I think he laughed out loud for the first time in months. He was fascinated that their bishops were elected only after they had done . good job of running his farm and having good children.

You actually can become Amish. It's very rare and difficult since they speak their own dialect, but it's not forbidden to accept outsiders.
Sounds more like you've read some books and are now proclaiming to be a know it all.You say too many things that are not true.
someday i will visit an amish country specially here in Penn...i love to have a sight seeing in this beautiful life style
Wonderful. Would be great having a drone View do Amish community. Cheers.
Very informative, thank you.
Delightful gentleman giving the tour!! Interesting information. Btw, our farm is fully electric but there are no power lines to be seen. Everything is underground.
When I was growing up Amish I would have LOVED to have the option to leave after just one weekend!
I want to be Amish! Can someone like myself become amish and at my age 42 yrs old?
May I make the following suggestions? (1) study your Bible (2) research the history of the Anabaptists. There are a lot of videos on youtube, History is very important to the Amish. (3) Goggle their weekly newspaper The Budget and get a 6 months subscrition. It will be very informative and helpful (4) If you can locate an Amish congregation near you, ask to meet with their leadership for guidance...if they are not available, try to find a Mennonite congregation. Hope this helps. Your age wont hinder you...remember the Amish/Mennonite life is a life and mindset based entirely on God and family. God bless youin your search.
no.
It’s not what you think it is. Looks great from the outside in but reality is totally different within the church. It’s all about control and conformity whether you agree or not. This is a cult at its essence. Trust me we just escaped.
I do too! I want to be part of a new order Amish church that reads their Bible in English and are kind to animals.
Yes anybody can become amish
I went to an Amish Farm that did furniture also. I was raised by an Amish man. At the farm they would not speak to me. I wish them the best.
that was hilarious .. asking the same questions over and over again "we have enough" "NO" .. Lol ..
The reason for The private schools is also partly because of the teaching of evolution in public schools!! The Amish very strongly believe that we were created by God!! This man really impresses me!! Because he is not bitter like so many ex Amish are!!
Joseph JayDee he is not ex amish. He never joined
Joseph JayDee uin
I love ther woodwork
A good little documentary, I'm not particularly religious but nevertheless, I quite enjoyed learning about the Amish.
Ray Fridley they don't like paying 60cent a mile
You know what you call a man dressed in black standing beside the road with his hand stuck up horses butt. A amish horse mechanic,
My dairy barn would be playing good old J Cash!!!!
Since when did the Amish allow themselves to be filmed or photographed?
good question, when I used to deliver in and around Lancaster, they would lower or turn their head if I tried to snap a picture of them and their horses
Since they want our money. It promotes tourism in their area.
I was thinking the same thing because he said he is not but she is Amish. If you take a picture of them, they will go to an elder and self report to them they had a pic taken of them. Effectively self shunned by themselves for a week or so to redevote their beliefs.
@@francescampbell4731 You are correct!
@@jaystell314 Sounds like Catholic. Sin today and repent tomorrow. Simple
Lots of days I wish I could just become amish and escape it all.......
we wouldn't have so much entitled people everywhere if only they grew up with Amish values, culture and traditions .
Gojoin them, then.
We wouldn't have anything.
Its a pointless existence.
Land O Lanks is the best butter. So sweet and creamy
Gotta love those Amish prescription glasses love, was those lenses cut with flint stone or lasers?
It’s insane how Amish people are exactly like the people in the series The Handmaid Tale.. 😳
I am from Marrakech Morocco I organize horse carrige trips for tourists in the city .
I enjoyied every minute of the video .
Thank you
There are Amish communities and churches as well in the Philippines. Seriously. I saw them in their traditional attire buying bulk of diesel at the gas station.
Or maybe Mennonites?
Still just one? On a hot steamy August night how do they sleep when hot and muggy with no fan or AIR Conditioner??
It looks like they're on the back roads of New Holland Pennsylvania. I know the back what roads very well
Yep, just north of Intercourse, on the road to Centerville Supply Grocery.
When the zombie apocalypse comes, the Amish will among those who'll survive.
It's not the zombie apocalypse you have to worry about, it is the return of Jesus Christ.. and from what I am learning about the Amish and what I know about the bible, they'll be in good shape on that day.
AND COCKROACHES
@@inTruthbyGrace the people on the bottom may be okay, the Bishops and leaders are going to the very hell they claim to fear.
And one of the reasons they will survive is they don't believe in things as nonsensical as zombie apocalypses.
No they won't. The Amish do not believe in violence so people would come raid them of their stuff.
@@kerrykerry5778 I get it

I would like to know why they all left Germany and moved to the US?
Religious persecution like many other religions that first came to America.
Did you watch the video
The Amish are in St. Mary’s Country, MD.
The Amish are in Lancaster county because they came into the country through Philadelphia but that's where they found suitable land. Read up on William Penn and how he settled the land. The guide knows a lot about the "lifestyle" and events but should really study up on the history of the people and why they are who they are.
William Penn was a Quacker
The traffic could slow down a bit!
Curious, many people are saying how wonderful the Amish culture is, whilst they sit in heated buildings, with easy access to electricity and the internet. We have an abundance of technologies available to us, let us not romanticise a way of life which very few of us would want to live on a daily basis.
I drive for the Amish here in standberry,mo.
I was raised Amish and now live in moberly Mo, it takes a lot of patience to drive for Amish.
What farm is this? I would like to go
You can spend time on an actual farm.
Kitchen Kettle, I haul canned goods from Furmanos there for many years.
