I haven't been back since my grandma died in 1983. My mom grew up there. Her family was from West Virginia. I remember closed stores even in my childhood in the 70's. Good luck.
I've been thru East Liverpool several times traveling to Pa, I always thought wow what a terrific town with vistas of the hills the river, the bridge I know time hasnt been kind to alot of American towns but this one seems to be an exception!! Worth restoring!!
You're a clueless dude. That town has an extremely high cancer and drug overdose rate; seriously, do even a little research, and you will find that out that the place is a dump and 31% of the population there lives in poverty seriously it's just not a good place but move there if you want.
I was born in our house in 1949 in the West End of East Liverpool. I have great memories growing up there. After graduating from East Liverpool High School in 1967 I enlisted immediately in the Army where I served in West Germany and Vietnam. I have lived most of my life after that in San Jose, Ca. I go back to East Liverpool every June to visit friends and family. Taking a walk in the West End and downtown is precious to me bringing back so many great memories growing up there. Thanks to my longtime friend Frank Dawson the town is hanging in there to survive. I love my hometown of East Liverpool.
What a lovely sentiment! I'm finally leaving Sacramento California, to live in East Liverpool! Originally from Youngstown, but we moved to California in the early 70's. I'm just extremely thrilled to be moving back!
@@karenmontez613 Please tell me you're not living in town. I've been in the area all my life, and downtown EL is sh!t. Not entirely the people, but the horrible crumbling infrastructure and poverty. The nature around there is stunning. Please tell me you're renting! Just maybe 10 miles away is the Beaver area, which is one of the only good places to live in the general area. Besides that, you've got East Palestine, Columbiana, Chippewa, and Ellwood City. Get out ASAP it sucks! I guess calcutta is ok too.
@@agh6250 It didn't used to be shit back when there was industry but now it's pretty rough. The economy is garbage there and there's a huge drug problem which sucks because east liverpool has friendly people. That being said, unless your heaven is poverty then yes, it's shit. Calcutta doesn't count as east liverpool
I am from Cleveland and always loved East Liverpool, and all the other river towns, I think it and the other towns are in the most beautiful area on the Ohio River. I collect glass and pottery and was devastated to hear Hall China closed. Try to save some of those beautiful brick buildings, it seems Cleveland went on a spree to tear down everything. Cleveland never valued any of its historic architecture, they want to make everything new and shiny.
Yeah, you have fun living in a town with almost no good-paying jobs, the 2nd highest cancer rate in the state, and also a town where half the people there are hooked on drugs you have fun with that
I have lived all over the world and I’ll tell you, East Liverpool is the only place I’ve called HOME. So much so, we moved back. Is it sad? Absolutely. Are there drug problems? YES. Is it our responsibility to handle that? HELL YES! Just like you don’t want that in your house, don’t allow it in OUR town. Yes we have a police force, but who knows what’s happening in your neighborhood better than you? If you see something, say something. It will take EVERYONE to help turn this around, but it can be done!
So many people from the class of 1986 in this video. That's the year I graduated from ELHS. Recognized quite a few names. I sure hope this video isn't just a dog and pony show. I really hope downtown is coming back.
East Liverpool can’t thrive because the city council runs all the new businesses out of town. The drug issues and crime are insane, and the schools are trash. The best decision anyone from there can make is to move. These videos make it seem like there is hope and room for improvement yet the local government is not willing to work with anyone to make it happen.
Pretty much nothing but a run down drug infested city. There are a few good people here but as stated the city officials run everything they don't want right out of town. Now they took the court out of the city. It's now all in lisbon. I understand there's no money but maybe they should quit running people out of town who have good businesses or people who want to start a good business and quit buying the old buildings and leave them sit like the old Riverview florist. And as far as the cic program that's joke also. Unless you have money or a certain last name you get no help at all from this city.
That's too bad because the location is stunning and the downtown area has potential. Roanoke, Virginia revitalized their downtown, converting many buildings and warehouses into condos and apartments. A huge choice of restaurants, breweries and year-round activities, concerts and festivals was key.
Worst idea ever, those are the exact people you don't want around also known as "pot smoking losers" They need Republicans moving in, you know people with real careers that pay taxes and contribute to society.
I Used to Live There. Left East Liverpool in 1972. So Glad we Did. I see No Future. What Industry is Going to Set Up There. It’s in Decline. If Can Get Worse.
More Ohio people spend their time in West Virginia than they do their own state. They come over for cigarettes and lottery tickets and fast food and groceries when you can shop and give money back to your own state and work in your own state, it gives it money to progress. It seems like they don't care about that. A lot of Ohio people also come across the border to live for free because they rent or say they have a business in Ohio. Meanwhile, they live in West Virginia and don't have to pay school tax property tax license registration because they keep their Ohio plates. East Liverpool could be a great place again but I think people just don't care enough especially when they can go everywhere else and do.
East Liverpool and the towns like it in Southeast Ohio and the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia have an opportunity. Because of Philadelphia and its suburbs, Pennsylvania is going the way of New York State...a one party state hostile to anything outside of the East Coast mentality. Ohio and West Virginia are cheaper places to do business. There is this invisible and imaginary Berlin Wall type barrier between the Ohio Valley and Western Pennsylvania. Break this down and bring in business.
What is this East Coast mentality you mentioned? How are political parties involved? Seriously. I literally have no idea what your comment means. I suspect that you're part of a circle that's so steeped in a specific mindset or ideology that it never occurred to you that your comment required any explanation.
