      the other way is also that i tested cars that i feelt that the car does wierd things becaus its not setup for my style of driving and im as a driver could not manage to drive the car aggresive and forcefull to the point where it had maximum performance.

    I look forward to seeing your progress on this! I have tuned a couple cars that run PPIHC (not a hill climb expert by any means, but I have learned a few things). You'll want to make sure you have cooling ironed out well. The higher you go, the less efficient your coolers will be. Increase fluid capacities for oil and coolant if you can, and make sure you have good ducting and spacing between your heat exchangers. Also, if you are not doing it already, get on youtube (or racing sim) and start memorizing the track. A lot of the corners look the same going in but very different coming out. I'm excited to see you do this and will be following along.

    Your temps are probably going to go up as you go up in altitude. Keep that in mind. if you’re overheating in 10 minutes at sea level, you will overheat before that at pikes Peak

    • @wobblysauce
      @wobblysauce 8 месяцев назад +10

      Yep, coolers are oversized for sea level, but you can also run fewer fan airflow, or the same cooler and max the fans, but have more draw.
      Only one of the options has available dissipation

    • @extec101
      @extec101 8 месяцев назад +15

      @@wobblysauce other thing is that with cooling is at sea level the cooling is fine but half way up the peak air pressure drops and the point of boiling is lowered so the pressure in the cooling system needs to handle high pressure at the start of the run or got the ability to work with raising the pressure like the cabin of an airplane to hold the same level of pressure in the system and prevent cooking the cooling fluid despite gain in altitude.

I think it would be cheaper to just "restart" with all the knowledge you gained through the years and make a new chassis/ tube frame, then keep trying to make the current car into what you really need. well this feels privileged but I've been I think 5 times and don't really find it worth going. The best part was just hanging out with friends, and a bit of a camping vibe. But it's a long couple days and I always leave dehydrated and with a migraine. You only see the cars go by for like 5 seconds, and you're fully trapped in your camp until the event is over with a slow climb down in complete traffic. Something like a full track day at PPIR or high plains is more worth it imo, or especially events like Slush Festival or Gridlife Horizon Festival both at PPIR
      However if you do go to pikes peak, we would go to Clen Cove and hike up the small mountain to the east. Probably a 15 minute hike. You get a great cool view without being altitude sick and freezing cold at devils canyon. There's a restaurant there as well ruclips.net/video/3qJwt_2qdoA/видео.html

    I know Rob knows all this but for everyone looking into racing: Test a variety of tire compounds and manufacturers to find what you like the best, you can always burn the ones you dont love during drags or on training days. Tires are everything, your one and only connection with the road. If they're not right for the car, the type of racing, and for you, you are gonna have a bad time. If they are right, you can go so much further than you ever expected.
    For Rob: I'd LOVE to see you get involved with The Sendy Club (Robin Shute - current king of the mountain) and/or SuperFastMatt for some Pikes Peak shenanigans. A collaboration with either of them would be incredible. They've got the kind of dry goofy personality that probably end up with you guys being friends.

    You see while I’m very glad you’re being responsible for your own well being and ya know… not dying. I was so hoping you were gonna take the 4 rotor when I saw the video title and thumbnail, though I also didn’t realize it’s only 5 months away.
    Honestly you’re doing great Dahm, I can’t wait for next year and not only seeing but hearing that monster scream up the mountain

    Not sure if you have ever driven up pikes peak but it is fucking crazy. Anyone that has been up there knows that no camera angle does it justice. And no room for error without going down a 3k ft cliff. Proud of you man just be careful

    That is really good news Rob.
    I've learned the best way to become a better driver, is a lot of seat time, and go to events that has instructors.
    I did a BMW CCA weekend 2 years ago with a instructor in the car with me every time out. We used two-way headsets so that he could point out the best way through certain sections and point out some of the things I was doing wrong. I learned more and those two days then I did in the past 5 years going solo or doing a lead follow behind an instructor car.
    It wasn't that I was a horrible driver. I managed to work my way up to the intermediate class on my own. I already had a good handle on most of the basic techniques. The advanced techniques is where I struggled. Actually applying the knowledge. All he did was point out some really small changes to my driving style and instantly my lap times went down.
