    As Ben Finegold would say, "his pieces were doing a good job of defending his king."
    Random kid in the audience: "really?"
    Ben: "no."

    Won my first game using the Elephant gambit. Opponent was higher rated than me.Opponent declined the gambit but with some solid playing in a position of advantage, secured the win!

    Commenting as I am watching. After c4, i like the option Bb4+ Followed by Nc3 and 0-0. if white manages to play c5, the bishop's mobility could be restricted. After Qb4, white may want to play g3, sacrificing the d4 pawn for potential squares to save itself. I love the elephant gambit, used it to win many games. Thanks for posting these games 🙂

    White Knight "Gonna show you how it's done! Onwards!" All other pieces: "OMG! Did you see what that queen did to him? I am not going out there. That bitch's crazy! Send some infantry or something!".
    I saw Rxd4 while you were playing. I was screaming at the laptop for no reason :)

    Humans are not computers. Most players with good ratings just memorize a lot of opening moves to get some advantages early on in the game.

    I think bc5 right away instead of rook over. This almost forces the be3 move then qe4 looks solid. Now rxd4 & nxg4 both real threats

    I thought 17. Bf2 was a nicer finish than 17. Qxd4 - I love this gambit!

    I'm always exited when I see a move Stockfish later recomends in the analysis. But you won the game and that's what matters. who knows maybe white would have gotten inspired if you took on d4 and started playing correctly

    Bishops were known as Elephants in Odessa. The white squared white bishop has a nic name. What is it? Black Queen see heaven on C seven but she's that dix on c six. Think of the X in the word siX. Diagonal !!`!!!`!!

    5:50 I think here white was winning with d5 and then taking the bishop in the next move.

    • @aanon4019
      @aanon4019 Год назад

      d5 looks scary because in some lines it might leave c5 open for the black queen, so if the king is ever forced to f2 like in the game, it's a lot harder to run

    • @aanon4019
      @aanon4019 Год назад

      for instance
      d5 Bb4
      Bd2 Rhe8+
      and then the king now has trouble running to f2, so maybe something like
      Be2 Qxc4
      Bxb4 Rxd5
      and I think black still has a very scary attack

    Hey Jonathan! What are the advantages or drawbacks of reaching Jobava’s gambit from the Elephant Gambit vs from the Petrov? I’ve seen you’ve been playing it from the Elephant move order recently is there any reason for that?

      hi, i'm a bit late but one thing i've notised when trying to play gambits with the russian is that Nc3 is a boring yet solid possibility, while an immediate central pawn thrust seems more forcing

    • @HighlyCruciferous
      @HighlyCruciferous 8 месяцев назад +1

      The big drawback of the Elephant move order is the line 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 d5 3 exd5 Nf6 4 Bb5+
      The trade-off is that White doesn't have the boring Petrov sideline options such as 3 Nc3 as mentionned above.

    At 7:45 why not Rxd4 first and then Bc5 wins the queen if white takes it? Edit: you found it in analysis, so it was the right move!
