I joined the Navy and went to Raleigh on 20th February 1979, Anson 08. Left the Navy May 2004 on a Friday and joined the Royal Fleet Auxiliary on the following Monday. Left the RFA 17 July 2022. Now retired 😊. Happy days.
Anson 22 in 1987. 13 years in the mob, loved every minute of it. Okay, apart from the many runs to the fire school!. PO “mad Mick Morton’ was an awesome instructor!
Thanks for the memories ex Cunningham 39 class, 21 Sep 1981 to 31 Oct 1981, then off to HMS Pembroke for Writer training. Did 14 years good times and bad. I never heard the word Nozzer used at all.
Thank you. I was in Drake 22. we where a better guard but didn't get it because of the dabbers being filmed. Good to see myself going thru training tho as one of my lads has just come to the end of his first week. And Cassidy was a stoker in my intake. Great bloke. both of you
Walker 20 1987. The Sub Lt doing the kit musters in Ep 3-4 was Lt Phillips the PWO on HMS Ambuscade, my first draft. This was first on TV a few months before I went off to Raleigh, while I was there not once did I hear the word 'nozzers'. Thanks to uploader, it was good to watch this again and see Raleigh again. My 12 weeks there were 12 of the best weeks of my life, so much fun.
having had my rant i will add that i am proud of anyone that goes forward to serve his country, and i wish all of you the very best for your future. p.s. ohh and the girls aswell lol.
cont,d from below... but..it made you proud when you got through it, and believe me, alot didnt. one day they were there, next day they were gone and no one knew where. i think it did me good for life and its a pity we dont bring back national service too... cheers to all.
Know what I like about NCOs? They always say things like "you wouldn't have passed-out in MY DAY". And they were told the exact same thing by the NCOs during their own basic training.
I bet it has mate, I went through 1958, stage one Collingwood stage two was Grenville division, no pussy just gunnery p/o, big ugly loud petty officers lol hahahahahahahah fuckin awesome lol hahahahahahahah 😊 😊 😊 😊
you lot dont know what its all about at raleigh. we had 40 weeks at ganges at the age of 15. it was tough and i mean tough. very little time for anything but the mob for nearly a year. and if you got caught fighting you got what used to be called the cut. 6 for something serious, 3 was the average. ganges was the only place where you could still be flogged.
I joined march 85. This bunch I think we're a couple of weeks after us, can remember the film crews everywhere. Plenty of familiar faces. Good memories.
They all look too young. I joined 1947 as a 15 year old Boy 2nd class did 15 months training at Boys Training and spent 15 years in Frigates and Destroyers, made it to Acting Chief I Petty Officer as a Plot and Radar Instructor. Had a wonderful time loved every minute of it!
Yawn! Not the old 'Ganges boys were better than you lot who joined up after the age of 15'. Pathetic. I did 25 years from the age of 22 to 48 and nobody cared where you were trained after basic training, or if you were a 'button boy'. So what? It's how you did your job at sea or on shore that counted.
Grenville 4th june 1979, just over 16yrs old JSO2, thank you Royal Navy for taking this troubled council estate boy with no qualifications at 30quid a fortnight. I have never had a day out of work and served 11yrs with you and 28 in the civil service and 2 yrs in the NHS. Its ashame about todays wokey, rainbow, lefty crap !!

I went through Raleigh in 1969 aged 15 . Can’t say I remember much about it now . Took PVR in 1977 the 70s Navy seemed to lack any direction .
Lt Brotherton was my DO in 1980. I do hope he is enjoying his retirement.
I went through this in 1972, Collingwood division. It brings back lots of good memories. I went on to do 9 years and had the best time of my life.
I tried out for the navy but didn make the grade.but saving lives on the frontline with the nhs so didn fail entirely
I remember that first day like it was yesterday. Except, it was 60 years ago, 06/09/60 and at HMS St Vincent, Gosport.

I passed out in Feb 1990 in the guard. Certainly remember getting a dressing down from the Gunnery Lt in that drill shed
Spent many an hour with an SLR above my head running around the parade ground , with a good talking too from Shovelface...RIP.
I used to get shouted at in that same shed in 98. Happy days looking back.
