I straight up got this in my recommended and I'm very happy to tell my leopard geckos stories. My sister in law and my brother got a boy and a girl leopard gecko when they were babies, for their kids. They fed them crickets (only once a week), had a sand substrate, always forgot to feed them, had just a water dish in their tank, no hides, no climbing stuff. They most likely never cleaned the tank out. Did I mention the tank they were in was a ten gallon one? They were also in a freezing cold room after two years of this utter abuse, stunting their growth, no light except for a lamp at times when my niece snuck and turn it on because she wasn't allowed. They didn't even have heat in a severely cold room. When I finally convinced my mom to let us have them (my sister in law had been trying to get rid of them, although didn't search for other people for some reason, and gave us her stuff which was legit just one of those hanging car lights, they never used it, the small pool, and the tank. Geckos too of course) As soon as they were home, my mom and sister went to the store and got them a 20 gallon tank, a big hide, a water dish, a net, a red heating light, dried mealworms, and dried crickets. They moved them into their new habitat, then I joined my mom and sister the next day to go buy live mealworms and crickets. We had to do a lot of Google research, we aren't reptile owners by no means. We also got another, smaller hide, ordered a heating plant pad because I found out red was blinding to them (my sister was so annoying and saying it wasn't when it said so and even the pet store person did. He had multiple reptiles) and used that instead. We also got purified water, then ended up ordering a ton of crickets, mealworms, and waxworms. 1,000 crickets (came just inside a postal box, no shipping container), 1,000 mealworms (all dead/completely black), and a 250 count of waxworms which those were at least alive. We still had prior mealworms and crickets, we ended up having to use the geckos ten gallon tank to store all the crickets (about 1120), and bought another one from FB Marketplace. Despite having our ups and downs, it's been pretty good. However, I was told from the beginning they were girls (aka why they were housed together), and then my whole family told me they knew they were a boy and a girl and didn't tell me because they couldn't separate them for two reasons. My sisters reason: They've been together all their life, thats just mean. My moms reason: We can't separate them, they'll both be lonely. I researched, they're solitary animals. So guessed what happened? They did the deed one day, I legit have a recording linked on my Facebook of them doing it because I was showing my friend.. Obviously, it's unlisted. But now my mother's getting rid of them for someone else to take care of because they do deserve a better home. We're unexpierienced, not financially capable, and mom mom found a wonderful home for them. Now I have to scold my dad to now stop putting his hands on them because he wants to see what happens when he grabs their tail. Horrible, right? What's even more horrible is he keeps mentioning it and petting them when they legit try to climb the tank, meaning they feel threatened. One keeps hissing afterall! Anyway, that's basically the story of how my family and I actually did rescue geckos from near death. They were fully pale, no color to them, had a severely small frame, and were their child size. Now they're fat as can be, colorful, shedding, and a bit longer! If you've read this far, thank youuu! Edit: We also got a UVB light for them instead to regulate their routines, remembered that when watching the videooo

Hey I found a weird looking shell in my leopard geckos cage. There’s a female and a male leopard gecko in there but it’s only half of an shell idk wha it is any ideas ?
I just got my leopard gecko today! Her name is Cookie. I got a fake plant decor, a hiding log (natural feel to it), a water dish, and a light. The bulb is a blue UVB (I hope that's the right one). She's a baby so i could only afford a 10 gallon until she gets bigger. Im feeding her mealworms. The substrate I use is the block stuff that expands, its made from (coconut?) But it feels like soil. I heard never to use sand or sphagnum moss because of impaction

You can’t really go too big as long as you have enough hides and decorations in the enclosure. Also you should never keep two leopard geckos in the same enclosure unless it’s temporary for breeding.

You can't really go too big as long as you're keeping an eye on her and making sure she knows where the heat is and is utilizing it. But please do not keep two geckos together, they're solitary animals and will not be happy together even if they are sisters, and there's still a high risk of fighting. I would never have my gecko near my cat that close, but I do have my cat out of range all the time while holding my gecko, my cat is very calm and I have fast reflexes so if he tries he gets grabbed
This just makes me wondered if anyone has bought like 8 leopard geckos get a GIANT enclosure make it as realistic as to their actual habitat with live plants and food care to create a little leopard gecko ecosystem
I hate to say this, but theres a 99.999% chance that lady put that leopard gecko out there in the cold and wrote that stupid note herself. This is kind of a horrific trend going on lately. I pray shes just an insanely well known reptile enthusiast, but how many subscribers have dropped geckos off at your house MrsLeopardGecko :p Food for thought >.< Also that sand in the last enclosure, is it okay since it isnt calcisand? I assumed you wanted to avoid sand in general?
Sand (excluding calcium and silica sand) doesn’t cause impaction and is safe as long as the gecko’s husbandry is correct. Plain sand isn’t great for them for other reasons, but it’s great when mixed with soil.
The UVB with the leopard gecko, it was likely hiding more and "less active" for a few reasons. in addition to self regulating D3, the UVA from the bulb also helps with their day/night cycle so it was probably sleeping more due to having a better source for its cycle. they sleep during the day, unless you are monitoring behavior over night with something like a camera, I am very skeptical when people claim their crepuscular animal has become less active. Crepuscular and nocturnal reptiles are also typically more efficient at absorbing UVB which is why they can get away with basking for a few minutes here and there, or just leaving bits exposed, compared to something diurnal that might bask for hours. as for it not eating that could be due to any number of things, If it was indeed the uvb it might've been due to getting used to a different metabolizing source, since absorption from uvb is very different then dietary supplementation. basically i think, if it was just the uvb, it was probably just getting used to it. With that said i would first ponder other causes, as if there's possibly more subtle husbandry issues, those would need to be addressed before the gecko could comfortably benefit from the uvb, but that is my guess based on the information available. However I'd also like to know the size of the UVB, she said it was a shadedweller, so I'm assuming T5 tubelight, which for a species like this, depending on the setup, the tubelight might work best at a length of half or 1/3 of the enclosure, if overexposure was in fact the issue and not an acclimation response. Basically there's just too many unknowns and variables.
I was wondering? Is it ok to use the jelly pots as treats? I switch between feeding Pangea and repashy but once in a while we buy the jelly pots because he likes them.
Maybe as a very rare treat, but they’re full of sugar and extremely unhealthy. There are healthier treats you could use. He should be getting live insects 1-2 times a week, such as crickets, roaches, silkworms, black soldier fly larvae, and occasional small hornworms and waxworms.
Hi Rebecca, I have a deep heat projector in my leopard gecko tank with a shade dweller uv light. I normally keep the uv light on for around 10 hours a day but should I be switching my projector off at night too? My basking spot is made up of real slate. Thanks
Yes, a temperature drop at night is good. Although I strongly recommend switching to a halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat, they’re more natural and beneficial than DHPs.
Arcadia or zoo med’s UVB is beneficial for them. A low wattage halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat would be best for heat. Check out the care guide on the website reptifiles for more information.
I just purchased a new baby leopard gecko, and I was wondering what lighting/ heating you recommend! I have a 10gal currently because he is absolutely tiny. The breeder recommended a nocturnal infrared light 75w for heating on at night... but I read it hurts their eyes. I have a hide under it and another on the cool side. Please help and if this isn’t right, could you recommend decent priced lighting/ heating?
You definitely don’t want any night lights, they disrupt their day/night cycle. I recommend a halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat during the day. Although I’d upgrade before switching to a halogen, since it could easily overheat such a small tank. I’d upgrade ASAP, you can’t achieve a proper temperature gradient in a 10 gallon and you can’t fit much decor. Babies can go in a 20 gallon or even their adult enclosure (ideally 40 gallons or bigger) as long as there’s enough clutter and coverage.
Ok so I would switch to a heat mat you can get a good one for like 20 bucks and you’ll need to upgrade once he gets bigger to a 20gallon long at least and get rid of the night light you can use like a led or uvb for day but turn it off at night.
Sadly the bit about crested geckos only living 5 to 8 years is something that I have seen several times from sources that an inexperienced reptile parent might consider reputable. I've come across several chain pet store's websites whose care guides claim this, and I even saw it on the back of a box of a small reptile enclosure at a pet store that gave little blurbs of information about the animals you could potentially put in there. Thank God for people like you who actually educate people with the right information from reputable sources instead of this crap you see online and at chain stores.
I have a leopard gecko who is just under a year old. He recently has been refusing to eat his mealworms but still eats his crickets. He used to eat mealworms all of the time but has stopped. Is this something to be concerned about? He doesn’t seem to look sick or anything but I just want to make sure everything is ok.
I have a Leo too, he’s just under a year old as well. Although I’ve never had this happen, I have heard of some instances where a leopard gecko that will the eat a specific food item for a while, and then just stop eating that food item for a while. As long as he’s not losing weight and he’s still eating something he should be ok. If he starts acting strange, or starts to lose weight I would try to take him to a veterinarian. I hope your gecko feels better soon and starts to eat mealworms again!
I wouldn’t worry, mealworms honestly aren’t very healthy anyways. They should be getting as much variety as possible, though. Look into roaches, silkworms, black soldier fly larvae, and hornworms. Superworms can be fed occasionally.
She’s likely ovulating. Females often go off food for months on end during breeding season. I wouldn’t worry as long as she isn’t losing a significant amount of weight. Just make sure her temps and everything are good.

hi everyone, i recently rescued a hatchling; tiny little baby. I’ve heard you can keep cresties at room temperature, however the house gets VERY cold during these winter months. Without a heat source, the tank gets about 60ish - 64°. I’ve placed the light higher up so it doesn’t overheat the tank, but I was wondering what the absolute lowest & highest temperature should be? The humidity seems to be doing great for my little baby but i just wanted some additional opinions from others. Thanks!
The thing with uvb is, it takes time for the gecko to get used to it. It may take months for them to get adapt to it, But yesterday I went to my room at 5:00 pm and my Leo was perched sitting under his heating and uvb. In the wild they are constantly exposed from birth, but in captivity they have to learn again how to utilize uv. When it come to the gecko, the benefits out way the cons, at least for me.
It may be best to get them checked out at an exotic vet ASAP. Are they losing weight? What’s the hot spot temperature and what are you using to measure it?
I will be getting a leo late this year or early next year. How many dubia roaches and crickets should I purchase before getting the gecko? I have heard about halogen bulbs, are they better than ceramic heat emitters?
Halogen flood bulbs are absolutely better than CHEs. Halogens produce infrared a and b like the sun, allowing for deep tissue heating. Whereas CHEs only produce infrared c, the least natural and beneficial type of heat. As for dubias/crickets, I usually get 50 crickets at a time for my adult gecko. I don’t know about roaches since they’re illegal here in Canada.

@@nightinggale6470 basically what I did was took a peice of slate and delaminated it into a very elongated stairway and in thickness so that when I left a completely unregulated heating pad under it had a gradient from 70ish degrees to 90 degrees on the surface. I tested it for 24 hours to see if it would keep climbing but it didn't change. The theory is little homie can pick the exact temp once I set a hide ontop of it. I haven't tested a chill in temp with a hide on it yet to see if it will climb above his recommended temp as well as the ambient air temp in the hide. **This is currently a still a trail run until have proven it stable for time periods long enough that I know I can come back home and check it. Right now the goal is 24 hours and to have the heat pad on a 24 hour timer so that if something happens and I can't check the temps it just turns off the the leo will have to resort to a heat lamp instead... At that point I will be willing to incorporate it into the enclosure.

Things like this make me excited for a crested gecko
I already have three reptiles and I plan on making some huge expansions soon (going from three to five to 10 in the next few years) and I will name my crested gecko mochi cus I just think it matches most crested geckos

So happy to see Drogo and i am wondering if my Chewie Mulberry would be so well behaved lol

the second and third crested gecko videos were from NekoGekko, I love her videos! The second video of hers was from her video showing all her pets and I can’t remember correctly but I think she did hold one of her females before him

Good to see drogo
I don’t see him in many videos
Also I just realised that the last leopard gecko was on some type of sand
Hey I found a weird looking shell in my leopard geckos cage. There’s a female and a male leopard gecko in there but it’s only half of an shell idk wha it is any ideas ?

She's a baby so i could only afford a 10 gallon until she gets bigger. Im feeding her mealworms. The substrate I use is the block stuff that expands, its made from (coconut?) But it feels like soil. There are still some of the original Crested Gecko breeders from the 1994 wild caughts. 15-20 seems to be average for cresteds but we dont actually know just how long they can live.
Yeah they could keep going and out live us all - tortoise of the trees!

The fact that she named her crested gecko blue when it is not even the Color blue🤔🤣😂🤔🤣😂🤔
It’s the name of a Velociraptor from Jurassic World.
It's about the story from the name, not the color. I don't know how common blue cresties are, but I like the name blue on the orange crested gecko. My leo is named Echo from the same movie

Can Someone pls Help me, is a 120/60/60cm Terrarium to big for one or two leopardgeckos?
You can’t really go too big as long as you have enough hides and decorations in the enclosure. Also you should never keep two leopard geckos in the same enclosure unless it’s temporary for breeding.
@@theartsygecko9518 thanks for the answer and I know I shouldn't Jeep Them together but they both are Sisters.

You can't really go too big as long as you're keeping an eye on her and making sure she knows where the heat is and is utilizing it.
But please do not keep two geckos together, they're solitary animals and will not be happy together even if they are sisters, and there's still a high risk of fighting. Also that sand in the last enclosure, is it okay since it isnt calcisand? I assumed you wanted to avoid sand in general?
Sand (excluding calcium and silica sand) doesn’t cause impaction and is safe as long as the gecko’s husbandry is correct. Plain sand isn’t great for them for other reasons, but it’s great when mixed with soil.
Hey!! So is the picture of you on the thumbnail real?? If so you look so pretty!
I was wondering if I should use calcium with d3 bc I am currently using it with no d3
I found you on my recommendation section 3 years ago and I love your videos
Thanks for telling us what and what not to do keep up the good work 😀😀😀😀
Could you link me a light that you would recommend for a creasted gecko?
Arcadia or zoo med’s UVB is beneficial for them. A low wattage halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat would be best for heat. Check out the care guide on the website reptifiles for more information.
@@nightinggale6470 alr thanks
Great vid leopard gecko
I trust my cat 100%. Trust her to kill any critter she sees, that is.
Do you have to feed them live food or can you feed them paste
What type of gecko?
Crested
I hate how some people mistreat their animals
So with uvb I have them by a window and before I leave to go to work or when I go somewhere they get natural uvb which my veterinarian has said is ok.
Glass blocks UVB, therefore your gecko isn’t getting any. I highly recommend getting Arcadia’s shadedweller or a zoo med linear bulb.
Ok thanks guys!!
Hi I have a Leopard gecko and she won’t eat so do you have a suggestion of what I should do? I love your vids ❤️🥰
She’s likely ovulating. Females often go off food for months on end during breeding season. I wouldn’t worry as long as she isn’t losing a significant amount of weight. Just make sure her temps and everything are good.

hi everyone,
i recently rescued a hatchling; tiny little baby.
Hey guys my gecko has stopped eating and is very lethargic what should I do
It may be best to get them checked out at an exotic vet ASAP. Are they losing weight? What’s the hot spot temperature and what are you using to measure it?
"Boy juices" LMAO
