He's said in interviews and podcasts that CBS were fine with him and how he did his show. Not having a band, hating on CBS etc. were part of Craig's schtick. He was one of the highest paid hosts in his final years. The only thing I've seen him legit mad about is CBS not promoting the show or not having it in the CBS show reel at awards etc.
