    Hi Christine. A carat (ct) is a unit of weight for gemstones where one carat equals 1/5 of a gram, or 200 milligrams. A karat (K) is not a unit of weight. The word karat refers to the amount of gold in a particular item. Karats are measured in units of 24, where 24 karat gold is pure gold.

    Does brass and copper also leave a gold streak on the plate?

    You can drag it across your face or wrist and if it is real gold it will leave grey marks similar to what a pencil will do.

      +Deavion Martin if you're black press it on the veins on your wrist and it will leave a small indent even if you don't press long, worked with a ring for me.

    Can gold plated jewelry react to a magnet? Is there a chance that there is a still a thin layer of real gold there and the rest of the other metals underneath?

    Do these work for gold plated watches?

    • @Managarmr420
      @Managarmr420 8 лет назад

      +xXsoOo-pRoXx2 No, the gold they use for watches is a completely different type of gold that does react with acid and leaves a grey mark on ceramics.

    Is the makeup test reliable in any way? maybe it sounds silly but I was once told that if you rub a real gold item across your cheek (with makeup on ofc) it will leave a black line. I remember trying it out with jewellery at the time and it seemed true.

    The ceramic test is not working, I just tried. If you look the scratches from a certain angle even the gold ones look black. Also the non gold scratches are coloured from a certain angle. What I noticed however is that the non gold items tend to scratch ceramic pieces out whereas the gold ones not. It's because the gold is soft metal. Can please someone confirm.

    • @6fTbLiNg
      @6fTbLiNg 8 лет назад

      more pure the gold is it will be softer 24k will be softer than 14 k

      10 carat gold is not magnetic or any other true (legal) gold carat for that matter. If your specimen is attracted to a magnet however slight, it's composition includes a ferrous metal.
