    Every car has its design and manufacturing flaws, none are perfect. Fixing water leaks can be a daunting process, challenging even for veteran technicians. Unfortunately the Town Car suffered from a shortage of engineers in its later years, so it has some problems that are not commonly found on most cars - like water leaks. Kudos to you for finding the elusive point of entry for your water leak. Nearly every 2003 and newer Town Car has a minor to major leak around the windshield and firewall. In some it’s like a flood ruining the carpeting, on others it is minor and shows up as rusty hardware where the seats and seatbelts bolt to the floor. It is rare to find a 2003 and newer Town Car that does not have some rust on the seat brackets.

      As I learn and more about Town Cars, I find that it's unlike any other car. I had other problems with other cars: 07 Camry burned oil (I think something with defective piston rings), 10 LaCrosse had electrical gremlins and every once in a while wouldn't recognize the smart key push button, 03 Sentra I actually flooded in a bad thunderstorm so it had electrical and mechanical issues after that - despite 100% dealer service through insurance... Can't think of anything on 13 Elantra that I traded for this Town Car.... I guess it was perfect, but I didn't like it :) I hope this fix will hold, but if it will not - I'll keep plugging along and getting er' done!

      @Justice4 All My simple car buying advice is: buy the newest and nicest car you can for the money you have. 1) decide what is your maximum budget, 2) decide what are your "must haves" (for instance I wanted a factory sunroof combined with the tachometer dashboard, which narrowed my choices to a 2006 or 2007), 3) look for the newest car that meets this criteria, 4) move the older car ahead of the newer car if the miles are substantially less. Now as to your question about earlier than 2003: the 2002 and earlier do ride better but have less handling ability. the 2003 to 2011 made a major change to rack and pinion steering which dramatically tightened up the handling, but lost almost 2" of front wheel travel which sacrificed some smoothness.

    • @Thomas63r2

    The problem with doing this is if something happens to the wiper motor then you're going to have to rip all this off and then redo it all over again because everything underneath is what is attached to the wiper arms and I think your problem is actually somewhere else all you've done here is just basically diverted the water away from where your issue is and what I think you should do is pull those wiper arms off pull plastic and stuff off clean out from underneath it everywhere and then put everything back together

      Thanks for the comment! I went through a couple thunderstorms and keeping an eye on it. So far, I'm not noticing any water inside - that's not to say it's doing something I'm not noticing it yet... It's not a problem to reseal it again, if needed - I just don't want to have a rusted hole where my feet go :)

    Exact same year, make and model. Thank you my friend! Had done other fixes that didn't work and like you couldn't find where the water was leaking in from the front... Have gone out to check and the seal is warped and raised above the windshield. More than likely the exact same leak you had. Going to get some gasket maker right away.

    Thank you, useful video. The windshield wiper area leaks can lead to, even modest leaks, can lead to other more important problems.
    A test for this type of leak, using a hose, apparently damaged the driver door module, which is located inside the driver door near the hinges !
    The driver door module damaged, is an extensive fix and the part is difficult to find.
    The module controls the door locks, (using the key fob), and also both options to open the trunk.
    So at least, applying Gorilla Tape, is a helpful suggestion.

    Back in the 70's and 80's pretty much all American full-size and mid-size sedans had hidden windshield wipers. As cars started getting narrower they started to become exposed again or partially exposed. For some reason Ford did not hide the windshield wipers on the Panther platform on the '90 Town Car and the '92 Grand Marquis and Crown Victoria onward. GM also had partially revealed wipers in the B-bodies after 1990 even though these cars were surely still wide enough to allow for them (maybe the windshield was to tall?). I always liked the look as it looks a lot cleaner. Some manufacturers still use it but few and far between. It does have its down sides as leaves or snow can pile on top of the wipers and when it's really cold they are more likely to freeze and would be a lot harder to get to and break loose.

    • @VitaliyKofman
      @VitaliyKofman 3 года назад

      Thanks for the comment! I've seen some older cars having hidden wipers where they had to like spool up to their up position before they would actually swipe. My 97 Cavalier actually had them if my memory served me right. I guess until I got a leaking car I didn't care about wipers :)

      @@VitaliyKofman I think your method actually prevents the water from even getting to the part that actually leaks. The car was designed for water to get behind the cowl but drain through vents. The actual problem is the vents clog and overflow into areas where the seals need to be replaced. You stop the water before it even gets to the seals which achieves the same goal. But Im curious as to where this water now goes. You just want to make sure its not redirected onto something else that's bad.

    Hi, I have a 2006 Lincoln Town Car also. It's been leaking very badly. Has your car started leaking anymore since the fix you did? Reason I'm asking is, I actually looked at buying a replacement seal for the cowl which is where you applied the gasket sealer and from the pictures of the new seals they all look bent or warped and don't appear to seal tightly against the windshield either. I guess the pictures could be different than an actual new seal but it just makes me wonder. I'm definitely going to try the same fix as you did though. My wife's 2001 Ford Mustang is leaking in floor boards also. Wonder why Ford/Lincoln hasn't been made to correct these leaking issues? Cars are expensive and they should be held accountable. Thanks so much for the videos and great info! I have liked and subscribed! Take care!

    • @LisaMedeiros-tr2lz
      @LisaMedeiros-tr2lz Год назад

      Can you describe this in more detail? With the carpet removed, there is still a sound-proofing and heat shield behind the pedals. That piece is not easy to remove as it has pass-through hole around that cable grommet. I see no way to remove that without cutting it. What did you do? Did you use sealant on the inside and/or outside on the firewall. I could use the help. The carpet has been drying for a week now with two fans blowing on it upside down on standoffs after first drying with a shopvac (2.5 total gallons removed from floor pan and squeegy-ing the carpet, followed by blotting with towels). I removed the cowl and used rtv around the air intake, which was actually a redo. Previous owner did that already once. What a PITA to remove all the old. There are in fact two failed gaskets. The one is the same covered by all the other videos between the two plastic cowl pieces, but there is another where the air box itself seals to the cowl sheet metal underneath. I removed as much of that gasket too and pushed in rtv into the lower gasket area. The leak is on the driver side behind the pedals and underneath that sound proofing rubber mat (that also has that closed cell foam "sponge" material). Did you remove that to gain access to the hood release grommet? I also heard someone else say the parking brake feed through. I want to seal up all possible areas and test it before the extensive reassembly. My entire interior is in the garage. I need to wire brush the center console metal that is rusted and rust-proof that. I want to fix this once and for all. I am also planning on putting some gutter sealant on the windshield gasket as well like this video (only a lot less and neater). Any advice you could give would be appreciated. I have only owned this LTC (Ultimate) a few months and love the car, but this "Achilles heel" has me very upset and disappointed. I recently had winter ice buildup on the INSIDE of the windshield due to so much moisture hidden under the carpet. I may have saved it just in time against mold and rust on the floor pan.

I also am going to put some directly on the grommet feed-throughs in the firewall on the engine side. I also have painters tape on the windshield and rubber cowl gasket to put a small bead neatly there.
