Returning to clarinet in my 50's after not playing it since college. This is super helpful, and your explanations are excellent! I'm only now realizing that I was using less efficient fingerings for some of the notes when playing the chromatic scale in my youth (although I got so used to playing it the way that I did, that I was actually super fast at it!). I'm going to correct my fingerings with your suggestions this time around to make things easier for myself as I'm "re-learning" the instrument. Thanks for this!
@@TheClarinetProject It's going fairly well, I think? 😆 These alternate fingerings are really tripping me up at times but I'm going to persist at getting better at them! My real trouble spot is going from F to F# (just above what you show in the above video, scale-wise). I don't like the sound of the F# when using the side keys (sounds weaker and sharp) but I realize this is a much more efficient way to swap notes and avoid a ghost tone in between them if I was to go from thumb to index finger instead. Not sure what to do about the sharpness of the note though? I also struggle with the notes around the octave break, but I'm guessing that's pretty normal. Especially when you consider I'm re-learning the correct fingerings around those pinky notes! I'm still working through which reed brand and strength I prefer, but I think I've started to narrow that down.
This will definitely be very helpful when I have to play a chromatic scale for band. Although I’m still confused where the pinkies go for certain notes.
Simply an eye opener...Great job. Playing is different, teaching is different. Because, teaching is to make others understand what you mean. You must be a great teacher...
Hi Katina, many thanks to you. I have a clarinette but no money to pay a teacher to learn me how to learn the music Reading. In did I play only with my ear, I Can reproduce music but not read. May be you have some advice to me to learn how to read music? Thank you .
i can play the clarinet....love it...but the left and right pinkies ALWAYS screw me up.....other than that....i'm pretty good......i was starting to get the hang of it and then stopped playing.....but will be playing again very soon
@@TheClarinetProject I'm back playing....concert in 2 weeks!!!! the pinkies are getting much better!!! This is a college band so it isn't easy music!! lol
Many people know how to play, but few know how to teach...You're one of the fine teacher. Appreciate that.

I'm glad it's helpful. The pinkies can be confusing. I feel like the keys are all out of order of where I would put them.

You're welcome! Glad it was helpful!
These are really useful and well presented, thank you so much.
Thank you ma'am very useful for me
chromatic scale is notes from lowest to highest?
It can be. It's really just the scale that moves by half steps.
its full note without modifier like B and #. sol la si do... that is chromatic.
It's 1st Octave Sergey.
GREAT WORK! :) Wonderful teaching Points! :)
Thank you very much!

Thank you. That's a good idea for a future video! In the meantime, I suggest that you do a search for how to read treble clef music. That should help.
If anyone is trying to learn this and they’re slow put it on a slow playback speed so you can learn it quicker
I hope I dont choke in my audition this is so much to take in in the pinkies and going down too
Pinkies down! How'd it go?
