- Testing the JBL Flip 4 firmware upgrade from 3.2 to 3.9. The update is said to fix minor bugs but my test is to see if the sound has changed at all.

yeah its hard to believe how they are getting away with single drivers in bodies designed for two drivers.

Just tried my Flip 4 and my GF's Flip 4 in stereo mode for the first time. I noticed the firmware update but didn't update because I was concerned I'd loose the sound quality I like that the Flip 4 has. But after checking this out I might attempt the update.

@@alanrossreviews Yeah I did it for my Flip 4 and my GF's Flip 4. The highs actually do sound better and I think the mids and base might have some improvements.

I like it because firmware fix my treble & mids little better but the bass not so impressive with.
it does seem that how the firmware affects sound differs a lot between same model speakers. I updated two flip 4s and on both there was a teeny bit more bass, so opposite to your own experience.

my speaker sound blown doesn’t give out the bass very well than before. on Twitter name JBL USA.
So I talk to the jbl companies they said the Jbl Flip 5 is going to came out last spring but they are having slightly delay right now.
then in the next update, improve the bass and make jbl flip 4 sound more vocal and as the speaker on the speaker for ful it is for the voice message let it be quieter
When I tried flip 4 first time I knew that it's not possible to use indoor cause sound way too harsh for me. But for outdoor, it's acceptable I think.
yeah i really only use the flip 4s as a pair if i want to go super mobile, but they are tuned on the harsh side with the high end boost. I think a lot of it is what you are sued, you are sued to much better speakers so i think that maybe makes you senstive to harshness. a lot of people buying the flip 4 only have small speakers anyway and dont hear things in the same way. its also tuned for fun and upfront which itself can be tiring. Will you be getting the flip 5?

So there is more bass after update or now? I bought flip 4 few days ago and updated it few minutes after connect. So I don't know how speaker played before update. I
Trebble was overpowering the bass when it came out...now its better with the update
yeah seems a little less edgy but not everyone is loving the update, seems the story of jbl upgrades, its not consistent how it affects everyones speaker.
Interesting, in my opinion trebble is NOW overpowering after the update. I liked the sound before updating to 3.9.0.0 better :(

Hello. Thank You for doing great job on BT speakers reviews/tests. After watching them I bought pair of JBL Flip4 and I'm really impressed how great they sound. There is lack of bass of course, but... THIS space in stereo mode :) They play better than many more expensive micro/mini towers. I have one question regarding android JBL app. Could you tell me if it's a bug or else? When Flips are in stereo mode and I press column icon (upper left corner of screen) and come back to "change mode" screen, I can see that Flips are in party mode, but I'm sure they are still in stereo (there was no break/pause in music which always occure during mode change). I have the AN and I don't know if updating it or not, according to what I have read isn't an improvement for all models...

I hope the flip 4 firmware update fixes the party mode (more than 1 speaker). It has always been a pain to get them working in unisen. The phone gets confused and tries to pair with them both instead of using the second one as a slave.
cant you turn off dual audio?
You have to only have one paired at a time
Hi . I stumbled upon this video... Thanks and well done. Listening to the sound comparison through my on-ear el cheapo Logitech G432 gaming headset - it *sounded* like there was a VERY subtle increase in clarity - depending on the frequencies present on the song.. As well as on the bass. Which I prefer. But given that others are experiencing "problems" and wanting to downgrade.. I think I might just stick with the stock firmware :(.
One question though - is there a way to turn OFF/ON the bluetooth? I regularly use it plugged in using headphones jack input but it still connects to a bluetooth device when I DO NOT want BT... TIA.
not from the speaker, just by unpairing or disconnecting from the device.

Hi Alan... I’m waiting with great expectations on your review of two flips 5... it would be great comparing them to the minirigs 3 in stereo. I hope the flips 5 in stereo have a nice sound stage, not like the charges 4 in stereo, that could not beat 1 Xtreme 2.

@@alanrossreviews I tried to update my flip 4 from 3.2.0 to 4.0.0 firmware, but it failed before 20% of the process. I'm trying this because the battery life decreased so much recently and I have read over the internet that updating firmware can help with this. But since it failed once I'm not sure if I should try again. Are there any risks in doing it so?

My JBL have a battery problem , do you know something about that ????? The battery died at 10 songs and then ir power off... The sound makes distortionated and the leds turn red.... sorry for my bad english..im from Argentina

I had the same problem. Try factory reset for your speaker. Turn on your speaker without connecting to any devices and then hold "play" button and "+" button for 10 seconds until it turn it off. After it, turn on your speaker again. Hope it works
Wish they hadn't reduced the treble.

They also discontinued the Everest series featuring great, very clear and balanced headphones that has a real hifi sound instead of having too much bass and no clarity in the higher frequency range.
They only sell heavy bass "fitness" headphones or cheaper models that doesn't sound that great, trimmed to the current "mainstream public" and due so, i know have my Beyerdynamic Aventho wireless because my JBL Everest 310 broke in less than 2 years due to a broken driver but i got my money back since it was in the 24 month warranty range.
However the Flip 4 is still great because it fits inside one of my two bicycles bottle holder.

the rockster cross seems to be quiet nice in terms of punch bass and loudness. maybe worth to check
yeah sounds pretty decent, not sure it fits for my use though, might take a look.
I can't get my Samsung s20 plus ultra5G to recognize the jbl flip 4 speakers. I had to unpair them cuz they kept powering off every 5-10 minutes. They were there from my Samsung note 10 plus.
I unpaired, cleared data and cache in Bluetooth, did a soft restart on my phone and phone still won't recognize.. what can I do? I'm so frustrated.
I think its the phone.. not the speakers..

Thank you for getting back with me. I had to get the jbl connect app...the firmware needed updated. Although I can't get one of them to update..only 1 took the firmware.
And I NEVER KNEW JBL Speakers would need updated.. Learn something new everyday.
as always if there is nothing wrong with your speaker then no reason to update. jbl has always been a lottery with firmware updates.
