This year, Ryuyo, our acoustic piano “workshop in the woods,” celebrates its 40th anniversary. Built to pursue our founder, Koichi Kawai’s vision of creating the world’s finest acoustic pianos, Ryuyo remains our most important research and manufacturing facility.
Koichi’s son, Shigeru Kawai, oversaw Ryuyo’s development in Japan’s Shizuoka prefecture, integrating generations-old handcrafting processes with modern production technologies and materials, and in the process, delivering some of the most exquisite sound to piano lovers around the world.
To this day, Ryuyo is seen as the gold standard for piano design, research, and manufacture. The men and women who work there are experienced, talented, dedicated, and embody the spirit of an exceptional place and part of our heritage.
