Klonoa: PlayStation VS Wii comparison

- Klonoa: Door To Phantomile comparison video between the original 1997 Sony PlayStation version and the 2008/2009 remake for the Nintendo Wii. You'll see a comparison between menu's, the intro and gameplay of the first level.
Although the PlayStation version already was a beautiful and fun game, the makers really did a great job on the remake for the Wii, which isn't just some cheap port but has all new and improved graphics and effects that are just stunning.
Differences between original and remake:
- The intro on the PlayStation is pre-rendered video while the intro on the Wii consist of real-time graphics.
- PlayStation gameplay is made up of 3D backgrounds with 2D characters and items (sprites) while Wii gameplay is completely in 3D.
- Both versions make use of exactly the same music.
- The levels/stages (called Visions) have different names in both versions.
- In the Wii version you can choose between English and "Phantomile" voices while the PlayStation version only has the Phantomile voices which are cuter then the English voices. For this comparison I went with the Phantomile voices on the Wii.
Videos are played and recorded from real hardware, what you see are my actual consoles running the game (so no emulator stuff).

The PS1 looks more "kawaii" and the Wii looks like more Sonic
Yep, they stuck with Klonoa 2's mainstream appearance instead of their original style, or even an entirely new unique style, I think it hurts this game's popularity and reputation to be honest, it needs to stand out like it did in the original otherwise people will call it a Sonic clone.
@@DreamerFromTheDepths hmmm, but the 2nd game is really good and visually appealing.
He was always ment to look more "sonic". Just the artwork for the ps1 game shows that
It would be really interesting if klonoa did a cross over with sonic.
@@NotoriousFoxxx He wasn’t necessarily meant to look like “Sonic”, just like Sonic, he had similar designers who took inspiration from retro 1930s rubber hose style animation. Hence the “resemblance”.
Both look great but there is a certain charm to the original that is missing from the Wii version
Even I, who haven't played either version, feel a charm for the PSX version. Not saying the Wii version is bad, it's actualy the one I'm getting. Definetly not using the English voices tho
The older version was better at animations when it comes to showing emotions and making Klonoa look cute and fluffy
I agree
As an artist I can tell you that it’s probably the art style itself. Lighting and color pallets are extremely important. It’s the difference between a good remaster like wind waker hd and a bad remaster like halo anniversary.
On another note I’m like 99.99% sure namco was inspired by Unico.
Well one of the reasons might be because of the amount of details, in the Remake there's so many missing details that I can't even go over it in a comment really.
But one of the main missing details is the lack of mood in the last cutscenes, the sky remains blue and all the foliage still looks fine outside of the flowers that bloom in the cutscenes, and on top of that there's a lack of dynamic wind at the end, in the original Huepow's cloak blows into his back and drags out past his arm a bit, Hewpow also smiles at the end since he knows everything will be okay and his World is at peace again, ALL of that detail is missing in just one cutscenes, imagine what the others are like.
What I love about the Wii version is Klonoa's walking animation, very smooth.
I love the detail in the Wii game but the cutscenes on the PS1 version are better.
Pre-rendered Vs. real time rendering.
Sonic The Not HedgeHog
Not to start an argument, but I personally like the Wii version more
Sonic The Not HedgeHog don't worry I'm not mad, I was just expressing my opinion as well😉
Exactly... they're pre rendered, that's why. The Wii uses "in game" graphics for cutscene animations.
I wish the Wii would make their own proper cinematic video cutscene. The cutscene of the first is so damn detailed and cute
The lightning makes the PS version look so much more magical.
Guys, Klonoa is coming back on Nintendo Switch! I just saw the direct!
Now we got a third version to compare them to.
As someone who hasn’t played either version of the game and has no nostalgia or bias for either, the PS1 version just has far more character, charm, an in some ways more detail when it comes to cutscenes. At least the gameplay segments on the Wii version look nicer
ActivePalpitation
I discovered that the original game is available on the PSN store for about $6 and can be played on a PS3, PSP, or PS Vita. I’ve played through it three times in the past couple of days and love it to pieces, please be sure to give it a look if you’re able
PS1 has so much more charm.
True
Klonoa: "Where do you suppose those dreams go?"
Stephen Fry: "Why, they go to... LittleBigPlanet!"
wtf I didn’t expect a Littlebigplanet reference here
dont know if you guys cares but if you're stoned like me atm then you can stream pretty much all the latest series on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my gf for the last few months :)
@Michael Onyx definitely, I have been using instaflixxer for months myself :)
Personally, I like the PS1 because I love how the 3D sprites look and how colorful/pastel-y the colors look compared to wii.
Ditto, I feel that with a lot of newer age games, they lost the bright colorful look that some of the older generations had.
The ps1 fmv intro looks better than the Wii's intro by far, but I prefer the rest of the Wii's visuals over the PS1. Maybe they could've made the Wii version more saturated?
***** The original is on PSN, if you have a console that can get to it.
I love the Playstation one as well. It's almost like an 8/16-bit game trying to be realistic in a way. It's a new experience that only Klonoa would use and in the most incredulous, and best way, too!
Dan da Train Off topic but god Mario Kart 8 is so colorful and has great graphics.
I felt the PSx version had more emotion and character with the cinematic cutscenes.
I sorta see it like this. Klonoa 1 remake is ok. But PS1 original is THE DEFINITIVE way of playing it the first time. It just has something of the artwork, emotions in cutscenes that i dont think the remake managed to capture
I played the old PS1 version and believe they did a better job with the cutscenes. Especially the part where the moon kingdom shows up. I can tell they put a lot more effort and heart into it in the original. It's a lot more detailed, polished and cinematic. The new game looks better for the actual game part though I am not a fan of the newer model myself.
Klonoa is SOOOOOOO CUTE! 😍
I love the Playstation's pixelated visuals where it looks both 2D and 3D at the same time.
PS1 Klonoa is SO FACKING BEAUTIFUL *-*
+CactoGamer More like FACKING CUTE !
Both *-*
Ya big different
Klonoa is such an underrated gem.
I find the original to have so much more charm and emotion then the remaster.
I really want Klonoa 1 and 2 to come to Switch.
👍👍👍
Your Wish is Granted
@@g.c.z.l.9982 It has been! So excited and happy for my boi! 🥺
The PS1 game looks better during cutscenes because of CG. The wii is better in technical terms ofc. But I still prefer PS1
+Leo Oliveira me too =D
+Leo Oliveira Of the two, I prefer the cutscene quality of the PS version; the objects are more round (the ring in the opening of the Wii version has edges that show it's not round, but polyhedronal) and everything looks more smooth. Gameplaywise, however, the Wii version is much higher quality and more detailed, but the PS version has slightly better lighting. It's kind of surprising that the CG of the Wii is so low quality considering that it was newer, but the budget likely forced them to just use the ingame models or something. I really hope Klonoa gets into Smash; getting that attention would likely get another game, with a bigger budget, that would help get Klonoa up and running again...
Side note: I know this is a style perspective, but of the costumes, I still prefer the Klonoa 2 design out of them all. The fact that the Wii version tries to combine the original design with the Lunatean design is nice, but also makes it feel less unique and makes the call-back in the King of Sorrow's design much less clear. :(
***** Klonoa 2 is my favorite platformer game ever. The only klonoa door to phantomile copy I had was Japanese so I couldn't read it. When I got Klonoa 2 in English, I learned about the story. I really didn't believe a "childish" game would have such a strong message in the ending... And the ending... Probably the first time something fell in my eyes during a game...
***** I could not agree with you more. But you really want to know what we need to do? Vote Klonoa in the Smash Fighter Ballot! If he gets in, he'll get recogniton. Recognition will lead to people wanting more Klonoa games. More Klonoa games means Klonoa comes back as he deserves. Klonoa coming back means victory. Truly, Klonoa's return would bring so many people so much happiness and help people learn even more strong messages.
***** Well one thing I am sure: if people want, Namco will do it. Namco is one of the strongest if not the strongest Japanese third party producer of nowadays. I guess only Square Enix is bigger than it. So yeah, they don't lack money and minds for doing them.
I'll try and find this smash Fighter ballot and vote him because damn, it's so good
In the Wii version, Klonoa looks like a Sonic character.
It's been like that since Klonoa 2, I guess they tried to make him more anime-like, which kind of removes some of the charm that the first game had, but Klonoa 2 is still excellent.
Ps1 - Cute furball baby
Wii - Edgy Sonic character
I conform that, in Wii it really looks like a Sonic character
Lol
I'm a teeny bit disappointed with the remake. It's a lot less... expressive.
I mean I still really like it, the detail is definitely better there, but it feels like they're not using everything they could be using.
Cielo Pachirisu that’s what gets me. The choice to do all the cutscenes in-engine instead of occasionally opting for FMVs took away some of the cooler parts of the game’s presentation.
That and the English dub was kind of awful but whatevs
This video is the reason I got the Wii version of Klonoa. I just happened to stumble on it one day, and it introduced me to this fantastic series. Thank you.
Facial expressions are cuter and more animated in the PS version. I was looking forward to replaying it through the Wii version, but I think I'll pass after watching this and just treasure the original experience. It really didnt need a remake. This game was perfect to begin with. If you've never played this, you owe it to yourself to experience it. I definitely didn't expect to be affected by the ending the way I was, and I'm glad no one else was around lol.
Well the Wii wins for the gamplay and graphics, but the PSone wins for the cut scenes. They just have more personality and expression in that version.
Gameplay is the same in both, what are you talking about, if so, Wii only has upgraded graphics, but that's it.
the cutscenes of the ps1 are not graphics, they are videos. Wii cutscenes are graphics processed in real time by the Wii itself
psx version has some nice light effects the animation looks superb and overall looks more natural,
the wii version is sharper but duller and lacking some color. the playstation intro looks way better than the wii's intro..
if this game gets a remaster for next gen consoles I realy hope that they use the psx cinematic's
I've noticed the building roof tops at 4:40 the psx looks like it has tiles/slates while the wii version has textures instead
which looks not as good as the psx version, there is other differences. see if you can spot them
IMO Wii has better graphics but PS1 has better animation. I enjoyed PS1's cutscenes more than Wii's
This is awesome! Thanks for the cool upload :)
I picked up a copy of the Wii version (missing its manual) for only $6!
I was going to sell it because it's worth considerably more, but after seeing this I think it deserves to stay in my collection!
Klonoa remake they made recently i consider ok. But the definitive experience is PS1 handsdown, it just has so much good art and soul put into it. Klonoa 2 remake i consider pretty subpar to PS2 version though
Both versions definitely look gorgeous (and Wii one runs at 60fps), but I still prefer the colorful PS1 version.
Johnny Leyenda ps1 version also runs at 60fps
Roberto Jaketti
PS1 only run at 15fps.
You can tell how much _passion_ goes into a game, and this comparison is very true to that. The original Klonoa team definitely cared more about the game than the team who remade it.
The graphics in the Wii version are technically better and more detailed, but they all look so much more... Dead. Where's all the vibrant color? Why does everyone express like robots now? Why butcher the dialogue so much? The redesign is just so... Meh. It doesn't understand the point of the original design and how it was meant to represent Klonoa's young, naïve, but lovable personality from the first game. Using the proportions and such from the later games, combined with the new design and that v o i c e making him feel more like a teenager, just misses the point of the original game's design. The fact most of his lines have been removed and reduced to "Right!" with Huepoe now doing most of the talking now doesn't make it much better, as it removes a lot of the personality of Klonoa himself. The game is made e a s i e r, having Klonoa now take 10 hits without any difficulty settings for those who want a harder experience. Everything about the remake just feels so half assed compared to the original game. Doesn't help when the entire series was relying on the remake to sell well, and... Well, let's just say the numbers didn't reflect that. The Wiimake is decent sure, but when compared next to the original, it's really just... Mediocre. If you want to play the first game, just stick to the PS1 original. It's really better in every aspect.
the gameplay looked alot better but the pre rendered cut scene at the beginning was way better on the ps1
Soul vs soulless?
@@unknowjlm Word.
The lightning and atmosphere is way off in wii version the original even with inferior graphics look so much more vibrant and pleasing to look at
Back when the north was passion and not just money.
How is it that the PS1 version cinematics look way better.
The Wii’s cutscene is being generated natively, while the PS1 is using pre-rendered FMV.
This was one of the first Klonoa related videos I've ever seen. Nearly 10 years later and I just now played through the PS1 game (plus the first GBA game)
Cutscenes on wii are in-game, but the ps1 cutscenes are colorful, and Klonoa looks adorable
2:27
PS1: 🤗
Wii: 🗿
The new Remake uses the PS1 character designs but is based entirely off the Wii Version
Are the cutscenes different?
@@gulorful8488 The Animation is a little different & ALLEGEDLY, Huepow has extra lines in the Wii Version.
Also, The default audio language is Phantomile
@@CosmicSponge2004 so glad they kept ot that way!
@@cactusowo1835 The Audio or the Huepow Stuff?
@@CosmicSponge2004 I don't know about the language thing, but if possible, that conlang-ish dialogue formula is the best and most practic in my opinion, also they wouldn't need to dub the game voicing to every language, only text
First off, thanks for uploading this dude. As I don't want to spoil anything about the story, this video is the only thing holding me over until the copy of Klonoa for the Wii I ordered actually arrives. (The eBay seller must of done something wrong, as he said 2-5 day shipping and it's been a full week).
Second, here's my thoughts on the comparison: the Wii version does look better, but Klonoa looks a lot more adorable in the PS1 version. :) I also like the partially transparent Huepow more.
Honestly like the Klonoa remake design more.
But Klonoa’s still looks good regardless and is Klonoa! So it’s ok
get both if you can, the wii updated version is great, but the original has a lot of charm to it with the styling/cut scenes
3:43 klonoa of the ps1 looks so cute
I can finally play this masterpiece again without the need of an emulator
I like the cutscenes in the PlayStation version more.
wow this shows so much how important angles and details are....the wii version actually looks worse on so many portions...yeah it is realtime instead of prerendered...but still.
I mean they could've easily followed the blueprint from the original cutscenes, it wouldn't be that bad, the problem is not pre rendered or real time, is how they left out details that weren't even dated
@@jd.h1966 yeah that was exactly my point should have made that clearer. it's in general just bad art direction and it shows that the original creator was alot more talented
I miss the gem-looking HP hearts. They fitted in the overall thematic way better than just plain pink hearts.
The magical glow is what I remember best from this game, and sadly it is gone from the Wii version, although technically it looks sharper and the layout looks great. 5 hearts vs 3 though... I remember beating the PS1 version and that was tough with such a small amount of life! Thx for the comparison vid, awesome!
I like the original animation...I haven’t played the game AT ALL, but purely by looking at the cutscenes, I can tell the PS version is so much cuter and more lively while the Wii version only possesses like...Three facial expressions.
Ps1 has the cutest design
No competition, the PS1 version is king
True
A very well made comparision, thanks for that.
Wii graphics and gameplay clearly had much more potential. Psx version looks straight up like a handheld game but overall much more charming than wii version. Cutscenes in psx is made completely separately from the gameplay which is why it's much better than cutscenes in wii version. Also I see a trend in games during the Wii/GC era where they made characters look more slender and cooler possibly to appeal to more pre-teens.
as a kid I thought klonoa's ears were his hands tbh xD
It's depressing that the ps1 version had far better looking fmv cutscenes. I think it's mainly the background stuff. It's colorful and imaginative on ps1 and just generic forest in wii version
Klonoa also seems to be less expressive on the Wii version too.
As others have said, it's because the Wii version doesn't use pre-rendered FMV at all; it's all using the in-game engine. In a sense FMV in games of that era was trying to make up for the fact that graphics couldn't properly express what the creators wanted to get across visually, so pre-rendered was a crutch to make up for that.
Games that don't use FMV are more honest presentations of the game as is.
I’ve not played either game, but the Wii version is better graphically, though a little more polish could be used to make the foreground contrast the background. No opinion on the sound. Klonoa’s design is way better on the PS1, though. The way he acts befits a chibi design over a teen look.
I like klonoas design for the wii but the Playstation has the better cut scenes
Seeing the direct, I'm so happy that klonoa is coming back!
I think it was this video that introduced me to Klonoa, which then caused me to see caddicarus’ original review of it causing me to play this game for the first time
I already knew and played this game for ps1 and ps2 😎
Wow... I am glad I didn't buy the Wii version back when it was out. Sheesh. The cutscene looks so much worse and it makes me wonder, why they didn't use the original. Title screen is cheaper as well. The levels don't look bad, but the game interface is way more charming on PS1. Sparkly hearts and having all details on the lower side of the screen looked pretty good back then and it would look pretty good today. And then the end with the books and instruments is so much better in the original too. Makes me wonder if they didn't have a good budget for this. I heard there is a new remake. I hope it has the charm of the PS1 game.
I did play the Wii version, and it was very smooth. My problem with the Wii version is that it was too easy and it took me 3.5 or 4 (I don't remember but it was pretty short) hours to beat it. The best for the gameplay, not the cutscenes. The PS1 has everything like cutscenes, level designs, and difficulty, that's what made the original version so special. Though, I agreed with you on the title screen.
The Wii version imo is the best hands down. I can't tolerate the PS1 original anymore and the latest remaster doesn't have the english voice acting. The oiriginal JPN Voice overs drive me nuts, there's this automatic disconnect and pulls me out of the experience. Plus they used the original Chibi Klonoa in the latest remaster...As a result, the jumping just feels sticky and awkward. He flails upwards like a grasshopper. It makes for a far less enjoyable and intuitive experience. The platforming as it is, feels very restrictive and bland. Back in 2008 on Wii is still fine, but in 2023? it doesn't hold up.
We all have our preferences, but the remaster pales in comaprison where it counts. Voice overs and the controls/Klonoa jumping physics are superior on Wii. If the remaster allowed you to select Teenage Klonoa and included the english voice acting i wouldn't be complaining.
Blind nostalgia vs a soulless remake, I do like both of them though.
the ps2 version looks better
Is it nostalgia if I just played the ps1 version for the first time but think the wii looks really bland in comparison?
animated film adaptation Klonoa video game series is in development.
The film will have an original story set in the same universe as the original game,
YES!
Me too!
Can't believe it, it's been so many years since Klonoa Wii, I really hope the movie is good and make success, so maybe we can finally get a Klonoa 2 remake.
He lives.
GuyWithThePie back from the dead, he is.
GuyWithThePie ITS U!
Seconded with the Klonoa 2 remake. Not only did I sell my PS2 before I knew it existed, but to be honest, Lunatea's Veil is a very brown-coloured game to me. =/
Klonoa needs to be in super smash bros ultimate
I know, but sadly he ain't in the polls of who's gonna be the last smash character to be added :"(
Right off the bat, the Original Playstation one is better, but my god, the cuteness overload I'm feeling is THROUGH THE ROOF
You're telling me! My "cute meter" is going off like crazy! XD
The original playstation version has better cutscenes graphics but wii version gameplay look s better .
DetectiveTective also over $100 for a used copy of the ps1
Antonio Klaić I think the wii version looks much better because of it's less pixelated look.
Quinn The Quartz that because the ps1 uses sprites and not 3d models how ever, the ps1 wasnt inteded as a 2d system so that mite also play a part in it too. If this game was on the saturn, it mit of looked a little better
watching the letters at the beginning.... half a minute well spent. SWEET!
I really like the work and presentation you put into this video!
I don't know if you edit videos professionally or if this is just a hobby but very well done. I look forward to more of your video projects in the future. :)
PlayStation he looks younger in Wii looks more of a teenager
i think some people don't get that The psx version is using animated Fmv (basically cutscenes) while Wii version is using in-game animations
while i prefer psx i think people aren't giving the wii ver. fair rep also, i still think they're both nice
The PlayStation makes him a kid good. But the Wii makes him look like an adult.
Klonoa wii is just ps1 Klonoa with Klonoa 2 engine.
Klonoa 2 is a great game with some mind-bending visuals, memorable characters and surprisingly dark plot.
Did everyone else here come from ChaseFace's video as well?
Y A Y F A M
Loved it on playstation. Feel like the changes in the wii version, like sound, colour and character design, strip it of a lot of its "charm"
Plus they totally sonic adventured up klonoa's design :/
I've been trying to find this game for over a decade. All I remember from my childhood is this game where I played as a little cat thing with a big ring, and it was a really colorful environment and had a very happy atmosphere. I loved it so much as a kid. I can't believe I finally found the game. I can't describe the nostalgia I'm feeling. Last time I saw this game I had to be 4 to 5 years old, I'm 19 now.
This remake is incredible, and to think that they planned to resurrect the franchise and remake the second game as well. Too bad the low sales of this game have buried the franchise forever.
worst remake ever made, I'll never understand how people can be so blind, most who agree with the wii remake never really played the original and get carried away by graphics, but even so, you can tell that the old cg cutscenes are far superior in everything SMH
@Edu TV Real time graphics are the words you are looking for. And both are 2.5D, do you even know what that means?
And uhm no, everything is different, the voices, the cutscenes, the feeling overall is lost in the wii version, the only good thing they preserved is the gameplay, nothing wrong with the realtime graphics but only if done well, the charm in the cinematic cutscenes of the original got lost.
Prettier doesn't mean better, and it shows that even so the PS1 is pixelated and low res, it still is WAY ahead of its time, specially the last scene, all emotion is lost in the remake, sadly.
What we need is to make a spiritual successor or clone game of Klonoa. If Namco doesn't do s new Klonoa game, we'll do it!
The gameplay looks better in Wii, but the intro are MUCH better in PS, and the sounds are cuter in PS :3
Watching Wii footage of this game gives me so much nostalgia

The quality of animation difference in the opening cutscene is unreal. Why did they bother "remaking" it if they make it worse? Makes me mad
Technically they didn't remake it, the whole issue with using in game graphics is that you miss out on nuances and details that were present in the original cutscenes which were mostly pre-rendered.
That's why the original cutscenes looked better, it's because the remake didn't actually remake the cutscenes.
They likely no longer had the high quality assets used in the original opening cutscenes, and especially considering they updated Klonoa to match his design in later games, they didn't have much of a choice. Especially considering the fact they even if they did want to use the original cutscene they would have then had the issue of not only there being no 16:9 version to use but also the original PS1's highly compressed cutscenes not being an option either.
I like the look of the PS1 version way better, it may have low poly models and low res sprites but it's very colorful and has allot of personality, the Wii version just looks washed out and boring but the models are nice
The Wii version looks lifeless and dead. Ps1 version is the way to go. I love this game so much.
*****
actually, it looks lifeless and dead in all the game.
ps1 version never looks lifeless, even out of FMV.
This brings back memories I used to play the demo of this on ps1
From what’s been shown of the new remake so far, its looking like it is just gonna end up being like the Wii remake but with a few altered textures and models. A bit disappointing given the more cinematic staging and presentation of the PS1 version’s FMVs.
but hey, at least we can play Klonoa on new consoles and maybe even on PC, as stated on official site
To me it looks like it’s gonna look more like the ps1 version than the Wii version cause klonoa looks so much less like a sonic character
@@Sairrii character model is different but if you look at the start of the first level the wii version is 1 for 1 with the remake, down to the fences and positioning of vines too.
Wii had the smoothest animation, PlayStation was the cutest
PlayStation looked more cartoony
it seems the left one is full rendered video while the wii version is "in graphic games" instead full rendered video
Klonoa is back!
playstation did it WAYYY better
The Wii has really nice enhancements over the playstation, but the playstation version is much more richer in color. I think both have there good points visually.
I remember the wii version looking a lot more colorful than the footage in this video, not to mention a lot brighter....I think it's just the feed.
good point.
Gameplay, Wii is better. Cut scenes PlayStation is better.

SOUL vs SOULLESS
Yeah this is actually the best way to explain a game having or not having soul ever. One is so stylized while the other feels so safe and sanitized.
Lmao
@@kolbo2001 You could probably make a whole video just talking about why the Remake is worse actually, there's just so many things to go over.
the reboot drop alot of quality
Pure classic fun. Great series and characters
the memories of me playing this makes me so happy
There both adorable
What people dont notice or dont know is that the wii version has cutscens that use the in game graphics where in the ps1 version they use actual fmv cuz the ps1 in game graphics wouldnt be good enough....dont people remember that when the wii came out the in game graphics were so far ahead compared to the ps1/n64 era that cutscens did not require fmv in order for them to look good
2019?
Man I miss Klonoa's original design, that big ass red collar was really iconic.
It's the hat that was iconic
jacob fields the rec collar was too lol, everything about the original klonoa design was better
+Garrett It's not a collar, it's a belt.
I'm gonna be honest, maybe I'm just much more biased for PS1 graphics and gameplay, but the PS1 has the better klonoa design as those minor tweaks are what make him feel too sonic-y, the environments are filled with color that is vibrant but pleasing to the eyes, the aesthetics such as fonts and menus help make it feel more fantasy-like and like with Rayman 2, the voice acting is just inferior to the made up language they speak. Though I can't say too much in the wii's favor, I can say that due to klonoa being 3D, he feels like belongs a bit more and the angles of his body should match up better to the tracks he's taking.
Honestly, if you look past the obvious compression, the video from the ps1 game looks SO MUCH BETTER than the wii versions in engine cutscenes.
The lighting seems dull on the Wii version as opposed to the bright vibrant colors of the PS1. The PS1 does show it's age in comparison but honestly it has a more lively environment in comparison.
The opening of the PS1 is much better stylistically in my opinion-- Poetic writings are meant to be indirect and thought provoking, but the Wii version is way too direct.
Not to mention that the Wii version's openings cutscene looks way worse because they're made with the game's graphics, rather than a FMV opening like in the original.
HOW DOES SOMETHING FROM 1997 LOOK BETTER THAN SOMETHING FROM 2008
Eh, they each have their charm in my opinion.
Babzai wii cutscenes use in-game graphics, that's how
The ps1 is awesome while the Wii was Nintendo's worst console.
2875dulce
Wii u
+Babzai The cutscenes on the PlayStation were pre-rendered, basically animated on a supercomputer at Namco and put onto the CD as a video file. In the Wii version, the cutscenes are rendered directly by the Wii itself and using the same engine as actual gameplay. The gameplay footage shows that the Wii version has, in a strictly technical sense, better graphics.
