Ethereum 2.0 Upgrades Explained - Sharding, Beacon Chain, Proof of Stake (Animated)

- Ethereum 2.0 has some major updates coming and we are here to explain them to you in an easy-to-understand way.
Sharding: Eth 2.0 is adding 63 shard chains to help scale the network so it can process more transactions and data at a faster speed, which means lower fees!
Beacon Chain: The beacon chain is the heart of the upgrade, it is a mega chain controlling all the shards, as well as doing some other important things
Proof of Stake: This is the way we will decide who gets to add the next block to the chain - instead of working really hard, we are going to pick people who lock up their Eth and randomly select them so it's more fair and eco-friendly
Finally , an explanation of proof of stake that an old guy can understand. Well done!

This solves the problem of interoperability with intermittent internet access, especially if updates are highly compressed data. A town could only need an hour or two of internet daily to update their coins.

Basically answered this question in the video. Eth2.0 will take transaction capacity from 15/s to potentially 100,000/s. If demand remains the same that's 5,000x reduction in fees. $50 fee would become $0.001.

This is how forks are created. The creator of Etherum (Vitalik Buterin
) will release this update, and people will of course follow. You could keep mining the "old" etherum, but the question is, who would want it? It is no longer being developed and it is a dead-end. A good example is ETH-Classic
Actually in ethereum 2.0 the hypothesis is to have less than 1/3 ''byzantine'' (malevolent in short) validators. So this is a stronger claim than having less than 1/2 malevolent 'mining power'.

If I understand the video correctly and the original ethereum just becomes one of the 64 lanes, does that mean both will continue to exist until the original Ethereum becomes obsolete?
The Ethereum chain NOT the Eth coin becomes one of the new 64 lanes. The coin is a currency on the chain.

anyone with a node will be able to mine as you wont need asic or any heavy resource machienes you will just need stake of 32 ethers... you wil be able to pool stake too
only bad thing about ETH 2.0 is proof of stake
proof of work is a great way to store energy, which is a really cool concept
sad thing is ETH 2.0 gonna be faster because its just gonna have async chains with sync points on the main chain, but everyone is gonna think and say its faster because of proof of stake

Novice question here… Does this mean anyone who is currently invested in Ethereum as we know it on say Coinbase will automatically be shifted into ETH 2.0? Or is ETH 2.0 intended to be a completely separate entity?
If you're just a user and holder of ETH you won't have to do anything. The current network will become one of the new 64 shards, basically just expanding the network, or adding more chains to the current one.
