Mother Love Bone - Stargazer - Andy Wood & Xana Lafuente's Last Night Together

  • On Thursday evening, March 15th 1990, Andrew Wood sat down for an interview with a young writer from the local "underdog" music zine. This interview, conducted in the lower Queen Anne apartment Wood shared with fiancee Xana Lafuente, would prove to be among Wood's last words. Here are a few between them.
You can also pick up autographed or digital LinkeBook copies of the book, The Seattle Sound 1990: Seattle's Music Scene Distorts As 80 Glam Goes 90s Grunge there containing both versions of Andy's last (RIP & City Heat) along with historic reviews and interviews with Alias, Alice In Chains, Heart, Queensryche and Soundgarden - along with many more from Seattle's 90s music scene showcasing a disruptively honest period in modern music history.
We want to thank you for coming out tonight!

The meaning to his life can't be gleaned by how long he lived. From what I have come to learn so far about Andrew Wood, I believe he already achieved greatness in his own time. Proof is he is not forgotten, observed in just how many musicians - and fans - from the same period and thereafter being left with an indelible musical spirit - a true natural performer and more importantly highly talented song writer. Music is a gift, but, please, don't follow Andy or Staley or any other tortured soul's path to a premature demise. stay alive, love music, make music, play music, because music, while a discipline, always gives back and is its own natural reward and high. For the musician nothing else likely matters so much.

And what about Mia Zapata from The Gits? She was a way better performer and singer than Andrew Wood. At least we got other bands out of Mother Love Bone but The Gits was Mia. She died, The Gits died also. RIP, Mia.

      @toddlycrue 6 лет назад +4

What's this mean? If you mean why was Xana so mad at CC it's because when Temple of the Dog made the album in tribute to AW, CC said he would donate money to charity for drug abuse awareness, but it didn't happen. Eventually, like everyone, CC grew up, moved on, did his own thing, and Xana was mad because it seemed like she was left behind.

Dream of me and Juliet... Oh Xana come back again...😰 sadly she did and she's the unfortunate one who had to find him in a heroin induced coma. I don’t even think she realizes he was using again, from the documentary I saw. I can’t imagine. Andy was a performer, born to be on stage. He didn’t even live long enough to see all the success of MLB. RIP, Andy. At twenty four…some people aren’t meant for treading through old age, but he was so young.

There's a saying/belief that there are some people born into this world fated to leave after only a short stay. Most of the time these tragic souls are both artistically & physically beautiful. Even rarer are the ones amongst them who are so filled with this pure sort of beauty that it's even hard to look at them for very long. I believe Andrew Wood fits the profile/definition/description, along with so many others, the ones we see publicly & the ones we once knew private in our own lives.

I believe he says " oh Xana come back again" the song is about him having to go back to rehab and wanting her to stand by him again.

I could never grow my hair past my shoulders and was bald at 24.
I'm 53 now. Do the math.
I love the fact how these young talented fellers like Andrew did what he could when he did. Nothing makes sense if you look too far into it. To me mother love bone was the perfect transition for the time and sounded just right and still does.

Is mother love bone “grunge” ? Andy said there was “ no Seattle sound”..

As you've probably figured out, I was the last guy/journo to speak with Andy the night before the OD. Two articles from that interview appear in the first book of The Seattle Sound Series, 1990. From the Lovechild's own mouth:
RIP: Mother Love Bone recorded Shine in five days, as compared to over three months for Apple. Is there a very noticeable difference?
Andrew Wood: Yes, definitely. There were some mixes that were sent to us, and we sent them back to be remixed; and there was still, like, four or five songs that still had to be remixed again. Now it's all settled and ready to be pressed. Apple is nearly an hour long. It may not even fit on one side of a cassette, so beware, kids, when taping at home [laughs].
RIP: Did Mother Love Bone lose any of its grunge?
Andrew Wood: I don't know. Did we have any grunge in the first place? I guess there's still a little grunge in the guitars from the Green River days. We didn't lose any of the grunge we needed, but we may be right in throwing some of the ugly grunge away. It's called stale grunge.
RIP: Do you wish there was more funk in Mother Love Bone?
Andrew Wood: I'm pretty content with the sound right now. I think I'm a bit more mellow than anybody else in the band. The whole set is pretty mid-tempo. We're not like a real "head swinging" type of band. When time off from Mother Love Bone allows, I might make a record, and my brother Kevin [who played with Andy in Malfunkshun] will be my guitar player.

She ant owed shit, she should not been held accountable for finding Andy with a fucking needle in his arm. These women were the downfall of some of the best rockstars we had in rockstar history.
