      Love your channel, and love the balanced approach. I recently started what I call a plant based whole foods diet, but really I always knew I was going to continue the eggs from my own chickens and the kefir I make from a local farmer's raw milk, because those things have been healing for my body and the health issues I was struggling with. And I occasionally have salmon. Whatever my diet may be labeled as, for me it is the right one for this season. I am feeling my health and energy return! On a side note, I was watching some of your videos from years ago and then watched this one, and as soon as I saw you, I thought "wow, she looks so much healthier!". So I would say what you are doing is working, diets are a very individual thing.

    100% relate! I am mostly plant based but find that I enjoy an occasional egg or salmon. And you are right, it does take some stress out of traveling or going to other people's homes for meals. I told myself that if someone offers me a taste of something (most my kiddos) that isn't vegan, that I will at minimum take a bite and express gratitude for their sharing. As an endurance athlete, an egg is such a convenient and easy way for replenishment. I would love to hear more about living in Malaysia!

    So glad to hear someone give grace to plant-based eaters. I've been primarily plant based for 20 years with occasional fish item (approx 1X/month) when dining out with others. I chose to eat this way due to severe stomach and Gi issues whenever I eat beef, chicken, and dairy, although it is nice to think that I'm not contributing to the need for animal farms... I recently suffered multiple significant leg injuries making standing impossible. Living alone, I determined the best thing for me would be to get prepared meals through a meal delivery service. The best one I could find that delivered locally, offered only 2 vegan options each week, but also offered an additional 3 vegetarian, and 2 pescatarian options (most options contained meats). I lived off the vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian meals 2X/day until I was able to stand and get around the kitchen for basic meal prep. Took some time to improve my tolerance of dairy (thank goodness for TUMs and Pepto) but overall, it was the best decision to ensure I maintained my nutrition allowing my fracture and soft tissue injuries to heal quickly. Most people have been supportive, but some others have "teased" me about starting to eat like them. I'll never understand how people can be so judgmental of things that do not impact them in the slightest...
    BTW, I have your Plant Biased cookbook and love it! I admit I do adapt some of the recipes, but I love how they give me inspiration and a jumping off point! Chocolate lovers unite! Thank you for all you do!

    Your channel is plant based...to me that doesn't mean vegan...it means you eat a diet with plants at it's core but it can go anywhere from there. I'm just starting this journey myself for health reasons. We have a homestead, we raise our own chickens for eggs, have a nice veggie garden and new fruit trees/berry bushes but we also raise chickens and pigs for meat. Personally I can feel myself moving away from the meat even though our animals are treated with love and kindness. This has been evolving in my heart for a long time. But I can tell you right now I love eggs and will probably always eat them. Chickens lay eggs almost every day and if someone didn't eat them the world would be a very stinky place 🤔 I won't buy commercially produced eggs but I'll love and raise my chickens who share their eggs.

    I can't tell you how refreshing this was to see you're beautifully thought through video here! I can relate 100% with you on why you are eating this way, That's exactly what we have chosen to do as a family of 7, soon to be 8 as well. We try to have the majority of our diet consist of plant based products, but will also eat the farm fresh eggs we glean from our chicken's, and the meat we get from them as well. We are trying to enlarge our Homestead and trying to be more self sustainable As much as possible. I know all the more fruits and vegetables and plant based things are so good for us, they are what the Lord had originally given to us to nourish our bodies with and he knows what's best for us. We used to be totally vegan, but in the past year we have let go of that mindset and have felt so much more freedom. we are currently trying to find the right balance that makes our bodies feel the best. But I think we decided to let go and not be so strict because I was tired of trying so hard and not having the Physical results that the vegan community had always promised. You're doing such a great job, and I really appreciate your vulnerability and honesty, it was so very much appreciated in helping me to know that once again it is OK to be this way. That we don't have to be absolutely perfect in order to still be healthy and reap the benefits , it's so much less stressful that way anyway. That's where separating the "vegan" and "plant based" labels is important. I know a lot of people hate labels, but they aren't meaningless. Veganism is not just a diet and a lot of people outside of vegan/plant based circles don't realize that. I get that you've been transparent in the past about occasionally eating animal products so I don't mean you've been disingenuous, but I do think it's muddying when people call themselves "vegan" or "mostly vegan" (which - you either are or are not) when they do not make the choice to abstain from animal products wherever possible. If I had a nickel for every time someone has requested a vegan option only to be provided with tuna or eggs decorated as "plant based" because "it's just a diet" and "a little bit won't hurt you"... man.

    • @TheConscientiousEater
      @TheConscientiousEater  Год назад

      I get what you’re saying! I do think people can be vegan and switch to plant based, especially if their mental or physical health is on the line. I’m guessing someone who calls themselves vegan who accidentally eats something that is not vegan would still say their vegan. But it’s a fuzzy line at times. I appreciate you sharing your opinion!

  • @panes840
    @panes840 Год назад

    I am an ethical vegan, and I will still follow you. Thank you for this. For the record, if I had my own hens, I would eat the eggs sometimes, and I would also give them to the hens too. Because the way hens have been bred these days to produce more eggs is awful, and their little bodies struggle. And if I had my own, I know no harm comes to them. But, yeah, from a health perspective, eating eggs is fine, and for your circumstances, it is understandable. Just don't go mad due to the saturated fat and cholesterol. The problem is that everyone has their own version of" moderation." So, on that basis, perhaps give yourself a limit. The healthiest people on the planet eat 85% + plant based. Even fish is miles better than animal flesh and has benefits, so I understand you incorporating it into your diet, especially under the circumstances. That made sense. But going forward, we are overfishing this planet, and the seas are dying, and the seas are ever sadly more polluted. So again, what are your feelings on sustainability? That's for you to decide whilst fish also suffer from the process. West of Canada, the tuna stocks have never returned in 20 years!!!! It's hard, isn't it. There are so many factors.
    But if it is in terms of health, if everyone went 85% + plantbased, just think of the benefits to health, the environment, and the reduction of animals. To me, that's still brilliant.
    I wish you and your family much love.

    Thank you for your honesty! I have been struggling with the fact that I am "plant-based" but do eat fish occasionally. I also do not plan to raise my kids with a strict Vegan diet for the same reasons you listed. It is difficult enough just eating around family and friends who eat animal products, let alone traveling in different places that may not have what you need readily available. I think this is just smart from a health perspective. I am 100% Vegan at home, but I think allowing myself to relax and have a piece of Salmon or not worrying about eating something made with eggs takes such a weight off my shoulders. I was finding that holding myself to the standards set by the Vegan community was causing me a lot of stress. Although I may decide to cut out all animal products myself someday, I will not choose this lifestyle for my children. It is up to them.

    But why say “mostly vegan” when you can just say plant-based or usually avoid animal products? Seems like an oxymoron. If you eat what is available to you that’s awesome! I just don’t understand why people want to claim some kind of vegan status when they’re not fully following what the word means which is choosing not to eat animal products and avoiding animal-derived materials w/ some critical thinking for the latter. It’s deeper than just the diet. Any effort is obviously better for the planet, but come on guys lol

      I think people say vegan when they mean plant-based bc they don't know the actual meaning of plant based. I randomly learned what it actually means after about 2 years of eating that way lol. They do think it's interchangeable, but its just a lack of knowledge, not a zeal to want to claim vegan status.

      @@Sabrina.682 totally agree! I used to think plant based is eating whole foods only😂 perhaps I have that perception because of social media and celebrities. I just hope that ppl will look into what they are describing themselves as, as to know what they are talking about. Not just in this context

    Hi Faith, I always thought "plant based" meant mainly plants anyway. I'm not vegan, but for health and budget I stick to a plant base and add in maybe 5-10 % other when the mood strikes. I love an egg or 2, I have hens, to eat waste and keep bugs down in the garden and they are a bonus for me. Keep those recipes coming, I just love the variety of vegetables that you eat, and the lack of processed food is what keeps me interested :)

    I am primarily vegan...but do occasionally eat eggs and fish, as well! You may be aware that eggs contain choline, a nutrient that aids in the production of a neurotransmitter which impacts that part of the brain that regulates mood and stress responses. I believe your body knew you needed help in that area...and signaled for you to go beyond the scope of your vegan diet. Ethical vegans will argue this....but I do believe that we are all wired differently...and we need to honor our differences. Perhaps at some point you can go back to being fully vegan....but, whatever happens...trust and honor yourself ❤

I still enjoy honey occasionally and also fish. I would find it extremely difficult to be completely vegan as none of my family of friends are and it can be difficult in some parts of Australia to find vegan products. I am learning how to cook with new ingredients and without eggs and butter. I also now enjoy new types of legumes and vegetables. My family call me a terrible vegan because I hate mushrooms, broccoli, pumpkin, and sweet potatoes. All of which are typical vegan substitutes in Australia. My body has also recently started to reject any coconut products. Love getting new ideas from your videos and thanks for sharing your story.

Then I caved a little bc frankly, it's difficult to restrict yourself All. The. Time. Now about 5 years in, starting in 2017, ok maybe it's 6? Wow :D Uhm, I can say I do eat Eggs & some Cheese. But I usually omit the cheese & do let myself have egg. Like you, on an occasion I choose crab meat or something but I rly don't like fish. Still will not eat meat or go out of my way for it. If its something that's gonna be thrown away like leftover pizza or at my job, we have free breakfast, I'll do the biscuits & gravy.....I'll prob do that but that is the extent of eating meat in the last 6 years. My friends & family still dont rly get it, but that's fine. You gotta do you. Just like, I don't go pushing tofu recipes on anyone :D I'm js. I think it's important to realize that people in the social media world will food police you & make you feel like a villain more than anyone else in real life ever will. That's just my experience. Those SAME people will act a bully to you on line & not say anything in person! Anyway...Thanks for sharing!

    I was 100% plant based for almost two years. It wasn't sustainable for me in several ways. I live in a very remote area where my food options are limited (by American standards.) I also have a family, and while they have slowly transitioned to a mostly plant based lifestyle, one of my sons eats chicken nuggets on occasion & my daughter likes cheese on her potatoes. Sometimes I add local eggs to baked goods & soups. In the summer, I may eat local seafood. Additionally, we have medically necessary dietary restrictions (gluten & fodmaps) that are a bigger priority than any ethical choices surrounding food
    Life is so much easier now that we can all share meals again. We don't feel stifled in restaurants or out of place at friend's homes. Having all four of my family members being mostly plant based is better for our health, the planet, and the animals than if I were eating strictly vegan on my own.
