I thought I was calling to some shop teacher who didn’t know diddily-Scott about construction. Sure enough I talked to him for about 30 minutes on the issue. So off I go to city planning and they instructed me on how the whole remodel of the staircase would go down. I compared my notes to Mr Burchims and did it all myself, with city planning checking off on the project. I saved me some cash back then, like 30 years ago. And every time I visit that property I’m reminded of that conversation. I’m glad I talked to him and dig his shows and interviews. He’s in his own element cool with life.

I will say that it seems to have peaked a few years ago and I see more and more logic being injected into conversations and observations every day.

I have the choice and find it difficult to leave. It is absolutely the weather and geography, and what it has enabled. I drove up the coast last weekend to wine tasting and have great meals. I need to replicate that elsewhere before I can commit to fully leaving.
It isn’t just the weather; it’s also the geography. California has majestic mountains - some good for skiing. There are deserts that bloom in the spring with unusually pretty flowers out of their cacti, impressive giant, redwood forests in the northern areas, and many lakes, especially in the northern areas. The state has astonishing cliffs off the Pacific Coast Highway, coasts of different beaches to suit different tastes, colorful flowers and semi tropical plants along the mid and southern coastal areas. There are beautiful national parks, hot springs and even a volcano. You can also find small farms all over, even in the mid size cities; you can always buy fresh produce year round. Large cities of course have their problems - like most large cities throughout the country - but if you explore the rest of the state, there is plenty to see and enjoy. Jobs have been more abundant than many other places. Housing is expensive, but the job pay is higher. It’s not the perfect place, especially when it comes to politics, but no place is 100% perfect.
The weather isn’t even worth it anymore, nor is the beach. I left, and I cannot tell you how many people I know are leaving or planning on doing so. California is social experiment on the taxpayers dime.
I have always liked Adam. It’s obvious he really thinks about his observations and does a great job initiating thoughtful discussion. The polarization effect of differences is definitely spun up with social media. It’s almost like a evolution of human behavior when most of the population can be spoon fed filtered political, events news, conspiracy theories, group think etc. The kids who are between 14-18 today have a really different way they treat social media information, news etc. They definitely question the reality of the information far more than say a 25yr old and definitely have a different way of looking at digital media news social etc than say a 40-70 yr old. Id say they are far less likely to be duped simply because they have been immersed in this new reality and its outcomes their entire life so far. They do question sources of information and look at it with a critical eye more so out of ingrained habit than other generations. You look at all the drama today and the drama queens are pretty much 40yrs and up in age. Definitely brings up the need for our country to consider term limits in our politics and age considerations ie what is too old to be a governing office holder? The gap between differences will definitely increase with social media engineering!! But I suspect the extreme examples like women’s health differences have just about hit the max tolerance for level of extremism in our country. We definitely have bigger external problems we as a country should be looking at vs the crazy extremism drama playing out between states and minority groups within our country today.
His analogy of the party, it goes both ways. I lived in Utah for years, the safe space there was being a conservative Mormon. Since I didn’t adhere to that, I stopped getting invited to the parties…aka I didn’t get the job promotion, I didn’t get the pay raise, eventually I didn’t have a job. So I moved to California and started my own business. Adam isn’t wrong, he’s just looking at it from his perspective and saying “it’s them doing it.” When in reality it’s happening on both sides.
@@microvuette it’s literally that same way in every state. Just pick what the majority is in what ever state. If you’re in Texas it is conservative Christian’s in the smaller cities and towns. The large cities are more diverse, but if you go into the suburbs, then you find the same things there too.
Not all of the homeless are junkies or mentally ill. Many working homeless are living in their cars, old RVs and tents. The housing shortage is a big factor. I voted to recall Newsom and voted for Larry Elder who had a plan to suspend the California Environmental Quality Act to free up developers to build more housing and get the costs down.
It's like different tools have different jobs. When Adam said, "no one needs these trucks" I am guessing he doesn't hunt, farm, or do anything off-road or requiring heavy towing.
California now has only one positive factor and it's overwhelmingly positive. Prop. 13 keeps your property taxes from skyrocketing when we get into a housing bubble. No other state has anything similar. There are several states in the US where you may not be able to afford your property taxes when your house goes up in value. This particularly affects older people on a fixed income.
If property taxes followed home values, easily at least half of people would leave. My home appreciate 5x since I purchased and that’s the main reason I’m not planning moving anywhere in state because prices and taxes.
Thanks for the heads up! Idaho is high on my list of places to flee to. But don't worry, I'm a conservative and won't ruin your great state! @@corey6393
There is no need for an argument against petrol vehicles. It will literally be depleted in 30 years. This isn't about global warming though. It's about a group of people that are going to make money.
It's weird that Adam is mixing up electric cars with the left. Those are completely separate issues. I've had a Tesla for 11 years, but I'm a 2A-supporting, Trump-voting, anti-woke conservative. I just love the fact that I haven't had to go to a gas station to 11 years and I that my car can go 0 to 60 in 2 seconds without making a sound.
I bought a Tesla only because gas is so expensive here and no maintenance. I still plan on buying a C8 Corvette if Porsche 911 S. I also have a lifted 4Runner for off roading.
I tend to disagree. The issue of personal freedom, economic freedom, and capitalism versus the Maoist communism of CA, NY, etc, it isn't going to go well--at some point these far apart ideologies will clash, especially as CA continues to sink economically due to exceedingly poor collectivist policy choices.
California will be fine "economically" it certainly wouldn't be allowed to fail. However the middle class will leave and it'll be a state of the rich and the slave class

Adam made a good observation about the division on Electric Vehicles and Big Pickup Trucks but I don’t see it in a Versus optics. I see it as a Tax regulation loophole in one of the highest Tax states in the country. People who miss the EV tax rebate capitalizing on the more than 6000lbs vehicle rebate. If you have a 1099 you know this.
I'm just glad I grew up in northern New England where 4x4 pickups are pretty much a necessity to drive in the snow and ice for half the year (plus mud season), versus these urbanite cowboys with manicures merely _acting_ the part in their pretty lifted pickups.
I’m an octagon guy driving a Tesla. I bought a Tesla for its performance, cost of ownership, and FSD, not to save the environment. I’m a gear head, raced stock cars and built my own engines and love a small block Chevy.
The one thing about this discussion. I don't like using the word need. No 1 need 1 of those big trucks. That's probably true. However, no one needs a 12000 square foot mansion. With the pool. It can be argued that anything larger than 1200 square feet for a family of 3. Even 4 is what is needed. Everything else is want. No one needs a RUclips channel to tell them. What they need. As in everything, there is a need and a want for something. We all want something that we don't need. We need shelter, we need food. That's pretty much all we need. Everything else is want
You were both right - the mentally ill and drug folks live under the freeway areas, the working poor sleep in their cars which gets harder all the time. I'm an old Caifornian and saw first hand what happened when Reagan closed all the mental hospitals. That and the Vietnam war have a lot to do with where we are now as well, people have short memories...
True, the non-druggies get put up in shelters, or otherwise try to stay out of sight. The ones you see them on the sidewalks under blankets are the worst. I'd also point out people get addicted to drugs when they have no other hope in life, you look at the poorest places in the country with no jobs and they have the highest drug use and overdoses, etc.
After a few minutes of research, it is apparent that Reagan did NOT close “mental hospitals.” The POTUS does not have this sole authority. Why are we seeing more of this obfuscation of reality recently?

Also, it is illegal to intitutionalize anyone against his or her will in the US. See O'Connor v. Donaldson.
Adam Carolla is great! 🎉
Adam Carolla is a G! And a true American patriot who has tons of common sense, and he’s been sounding the alarms for years now. The American people need to rise up or we’re going to see a country that we know and love destroyed
He is for gun control because of his ignorance towards firearms. Other than that he’s a good guy
Octagon baby.
I've been following Adam for years and I think he's very aware and smart. He's kind of a modern day Nostradomus except his stuff actually comes true. Read all his entertaining books too.

I called into KROQ and personally spoke to Mr Burchim about structural issue with some stairs on my property.
When he starts rattling off Simpson part numbers and telling people where to install them it cracks me up. I design all of the structure of the big apartment building going up around Texas. Well, as many as I can get, anyway.
Grew up with KROQ use to crack up at his Mr Burchem character hahaha...

Moderate that leans conservative and a college educator in Kansas. I have students from all over the country and describing this generation as "crate trained" couldnt be more apt. Some of these kids are literally afraid to acknowledge, let alone agree on, what is obviously objective reality. The individuals who seem to want to point that out are often attacked by their peers and they invariably lose social standing on campus. I will say that it seems to have peaked a few years ago and I see more and more logic being injected into conversations and observations every day.
I really like and respect Adam’s opinion. He has seen California come and go! Now it’s gone! Too bad. Such a beautiful state

Oh,for the days of The Man Show.
Adam Carolla for CA Govenor! Also, I have a cherry ‘88 Land Cruiser. My favorite car
This guy is missing rural America, where everyone drives trucks.
Or MOST of California…
Raptors are awesome.
I live in California and he’s telling the truth. So many people either drive a Tesla or a truck/suv. I drive a raptor
Or… both. I have a Tesla and a lifted 4Runner. I think it’s hilarious people judge people by what they drive. If I’m driving my Tesla you’re gonna think I’m a lefty communist then the next day in my lifted 4Runner you’ll think I’m a Trump lover? I’m for the push of EVs but we’ll end up with a happy medium.
Awesome, I have the Model 3 Performance and my wife has a Model Y Performance. We use the Teslas because gas and maintenance costs are so high. I have a 1990 4Runner on 35” wheels, arbor bumper, air lockers, gears, full exhaust, rock sliders and 4” lift. I also have a BMW M3 with a manual. My wife just sold her Lexus GX to get the Tesla after driving it for 150,000 miles. I am looking to add a C8 Corvette or Porsche 911 S.
A lot people have both - a gas guzzling truck and an EV/hybrid - Snickers bar and a Diet Coke
I have both too
As these kids grow up their finding their own way. Most adults eventually wake up and find that they’ve been lied to.
“Nobody needs this”… who is he to say that. I go off-road all the time. It’s a free society. I’ve been driving off-road trucks since the 80s. So many people are so closed minded
"I’ve been driving off-road trucks since the 80s."
I think his point is that the trucks you've been driving since the 1980's didn't have supercharged 700 horsepower V8's. "Safe spaces and octagons" are moving from the middle to the extremes, and a 700 horsepower $110K Raptor R is an extreme.
@@jimmy-buffettUnless you’re making the payment and paying the gas, STFU about what other people drive. The government needs to take that advice as well.

There are many sane people left. Look at the 2016 voting map. Most of California is Red except for sf Bay area, LA area and a sliver on the coast. The rest are conservative. Most vehicles here are V8 trucks not electric cars.
Lol, looking down my block in California, every house has a pick up truck or large SUV.
There are 11 Teslas on my block.
@@mocheen4837 I see a lot, and guess what, during the 106 degree heat we had I saw multiple broke down teslas. The drivers were screwed. If it weren't for the great California weather, I don't understand why anyone who has a choice would want to live in California.
Great food, awesome beaches. Great fishing and hunting. Tons of wilderness and camping .
The weather isn’t even worth it anymore, nor is the beach. I left, and I cannot tell you how many people I know are leaving or planning on doing so. California is social experiment on the taxpayers dime.
California is a shit hole top 3 worst states in the country
If anyone wants to really see what Newsome is about, find his interview with Adam from Loveline when Gavin was a new Lieutenant Governor
I mean, Utah is an extreme example. It’s literally designed to be a Mormon State.
@@microvuette it’s literally that same way in every state. Just pick what the majority is in what ever state. If you’re in Texas it is conservative Christian’s in the smaller cities and towns. The large cities are more diverse, but if you go into the suburbs, then you find the same things there too.
So you all admit “woke liberals” are in a cult? 🤔😂😂😂
This is so personally hilarious. I drive a Ram 2500 pickup and my wife has a Tesla. Maybe we're old fashion, but we get along just fine.
This is a lot of people. EVs are great & trucks are great 🤷♂️
They offset each other! I still have my’07 Ram. Keeping it forever.
It's like different tools have different jobs. When Adam said, "no one needs these trucks" I am guessing he doesn't hunt, farm, or do anything off-road or requiring heavy towing.
@@jamiemcgill67Right, it's the Balance

...... and why does Chinese companies own land on OUR soil for electric car productions?!?!??!?
California is full of Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram's in the Central Valley.
Finally someone giving there personal opinion that makes sense and not GAF about the ramifications. 👍
My home appreciate 5x since I purchased and that’s the main reason I’m not planning moving anywhere in state because prices and taxes.
and dems are trying anything possible to whittle away at it slowly .
This is a serious issue here in Idaho. There are murmurs of a Prop 13 style law being put up for a vote.
Thanks for the heads up! Idaho is high on my list of places to flee to. But don't worry, I'm a conservative and won't ruin your great state! @@corey6393

Prop 13 was neutered in 2024 by the recent Prop 19 that voters approved (not realizing what they were voting for)
When someone pointed out it can't be unseen. Adam is Hank Hill.
Adam is a G! Miss that dude!
It’s not weird
I bought a Tesla only because gas is so expensive here and no maintenance. I still plan on buying a C8 Corvette if Porsche 911 S. I also have a lifted 4Runner for off roading.
Adam stands up for what he believes, and I respect that. His old show host partner from the past, Kimmel, is a sellout!

When I was stationed in California, I was a forward observer with a PRC. At night the guys would love it when I would tune in Adam and the doctors sex talk show. I don’t remember a whole lot from what they said because you learn a lot about sex when your a Marine.

Hate the demands for allegiance and compliance - I blame Elon for insisting we all must buy electric cars

I'm just glad I grew up in northern New England where 4x4 pickups are pretty much a necessity to drive in the snow and ice for half the year (plus mud season), versus these urbanite cowboys with manicures merely _acting_ the part in their pretty lifted pickups.
Safe spaces and octagons makes a lot of sense.

Adam is one step away from getting a gold chain and more ear hair to complete the look.
I moved my Family to the Octagon for the same reasons. 😂
Everything else is want
made me laugh you telling me what I "need"
Auto manufacturers want big profits 😂
Wants wrong with a “want” if you work for it. You “need” to mind your own business
Lol still got my Honda Accord 😅
A 100k dollar raptor is about the same cost as an entry level 2 door EV.
Always a good idea to mention Ronnie when we discuss the decline of the United States.
I was homeless years ago and it was definetly by choice and drug related.....I just gave up and didn't care was bottom line
This is by far most of the cases for homeless.....tiny % are there because of poor choices and bad circumstances....even back then people would refuse help cuz it meant you had to be clean.......there is always help if you want it in the U.S.
Can't convince me otherwise because I lived it, and also got out of it😮
Vietnam ended more than 50 years ago. And if you're a homeless vet the VA will pay for a room for you.
