That is one hard working man!
Those are some really nice looking cedar boards. I'll bet the shop smelled great.
Nice video I always enjoyed working with Cedar . How long does the sassafras keep the smell after drying ?
Very little after drying.
that is just beautiful wood, i am sure it smell great also
Bet it smells good in there with all that cedar!
Buddy, you are like a one-armed paper hanger; I get tuckered out just watching you!
Thank you, Nathan, for a great video share, I am certain I speak for many others as well as myself your endless hours of filming and final late-night editing does not go unnoticed, anyone that has ever done any type of editing for videos knows the hours just zing by late at night endlessly. Thank you, Nathan, @ OTW
Can imagine the sweet smell there.
Beautiful cedar boards. Superb job of videoing and editing. Very nice kiln to dry the lumber.
I love it! I can almost smell it from over here in Southwest Washington. Over here in the Pacific Northwest we call it aromatic Cedar. But what the hell do we know?😉 Does the smell get super intense in your shop when you're sawing this wood?
Years ago in the shop I was working at we made some handrails and flooring out of some recovered Pine that was sunk in a river in Savannah a couple hundred years ago. After a few days the whole shop smelled like Pine-Sol🤣🤣🤣
I noticed with the Cedar you did not cut out the heartwood, is Cedar different from other woods when it comes to using the heart?
Question, years ago I worked in a sawmill where the lumber was piled then dried. Why not have stack your lumber ready for the kiln then drive it over and drop it right into the kiln. Seems you are doing alot of extra manual labour . Just asking. Great videos though enjoy watching
Nathan, What do you do with the piece of lumber that is left on the bed after you are done sawing the log? It's usually thicker than the boards you are sawing. I just want to follow the guru.
when I sawing I always have the mill set up to leave a 2x board on the bottom, I don't like sawing any lower to my beds, I keep a stack of random 2x for farm needs.
Glad you asked that question Jerry. I was wondering the very same thing........
I've watched an awful lot of your videos, but not all, so maybe this is something you've already addressed, but I'm curious: sometimes you'll pull each board off as you saw it, and sometimes (like here) you'll saw through a whole stack before you pull them off; what makes the difference?
Someone allegedly from RUclips contacted me about a daily prize. It seemed sketchy.
Your comment about the time it takes you to cut wood with, or without, having to deal with camera setups, made me think that many of us don't realize the amount of effort, time, energy and money it takes to do RUclips videos, such as yours, and I'd like to thank you for doing them. While I'm sure, and hope, you are making enough off them to make them worthwhile, it still takes just the basic interest in wanting to share what you're doing with the world, and I appreciate that. Those cedar logs you've been cutting are nice, and I always enjoy the interesting camera angles you have for the cuts.
Truly, one of nature's jewels.
I have a collection (heh, most people would call it a clutter) of small wooden boxes, in different shapes and sizes but most are less than five inches across and half as high. I collected them on my travels when I was younger. My first one was made from cedar - it's curved and fits into the palm of my hand. It must now be fifty years old but it still has that spicy smell. That wood (even if it is really juniper 😉 ) must have made your shop smell wonderful, I can only imagine!
What happened to the shorts? It can't be that cold in TN yet.
beau travaille combien de temps que tu laisse les planches dans le sèchoire
That is without a doubt some beautiful cedar. Thanks for sharing. Be well and stay safe.
Such beautiful wood!
Today in my city 4 people were arrested dragging a mill down the street stealing it, the things some people do...
Glad they got caught.
#CEDARMAN
those where the ones I called you about, baking in the kiln now,
Awesome Cedar, looks great. Thank you , take care and God bless
Have you thought about sawing some thinner pieces for people to smoke food on ??? Cedar smoked salmon ... Just a thought of a way to utilize the smaller width pieces and make some $$$
Awesome 😎 job , thanks for sharing !!
I'd like to see some of that go through the planer once it's dry.
Juniperus virginiana, also known as red cedar, eastern red cedar, Virginian juniper, eastern juniper, red juniper, and other local names, is a species of juniper native to eastern North America from southeastern Canada to the Gulf of Mexico and east of the Great Plains. Further west it is replaced by the related Juniperus scopulorum (Rocky Mountain juniper) and to the southwest by Juniperus ashei (Ashe juniper).
Thank you
Those are beautiful logs! I once sawed a eastern red cedar that was 16 feet long and over 24 inches at the small end. It came down in a storm and I believe it was one of the larger living specimens while it stood. Made some beautiful 8/4 slabs.
That is some beautiful wood. I love cedar.
Nice!! 🙂
Beautiful cedar, felt a bit sorry for the ash logo though!
You and me both!
That dust IS going to give health issues eventually. Get some dust collection system SOON!!!!!! Also wearing PPE for dust is called for. Maybe you don't think it's worth the hassle but what would your family say???
Jesus Christ is the son of God who died and rose three days later and loves all of you. He died for everyone and wants you with Him, to know Him and live for His glory. Come be saved eternally and spend time with Him to know Him. Be saved, free, forgiven, healed, delivered, baptized, whole and let Him show you how He is everything you need.
🕊️💕Live righteous and Holy because He said to and paid for our way to live like Him. Ask anything in His name and the Father will do it amen hallelujah praise God thank you Jesus . 🙏
I lift up everyone's prayers, wants and needs to You Jesus, please pour out blessings. May Your favor, grace and mercy be upon the world. In Jesus name come help us all. You know our needs and everything else about each of us. In Jesus name amen thank you Jesus praise God 🙏
Jesus, Help people to be rooted and grounded in Your love and to obey Your truth. That they are living in the truth being taught by You. That they know Your voice and word. Knowing truth from errors, discernment. 💕
We are ambassadors of Christ. We represent God, when we are seen Jesus should be seen, His ways not ours. We should be living for and showing God, living for His glory. We are to be an example of Jesus for the world to see Him and want to know Him and know Him more. 🙏 🔥
2 Chronicles 7:14 says, if My people humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways I will hear them from heaven and heal their land. 🙏 💖
People need to turn from their wicked ways, Jesus paid for it. That's God stating it in that verse and there are more verses. People need to repent, to be cleansed by His blood and live Holy because He's Holy and righteous because He's righteous. Our God said to stop sinning in many many scriptures and He paid for everyone to be cleansed of sin (Isaiah 53), and to live how He said. He dwells in the Holy temple (your body) and said not to defile the temple. He said to defile the temple is death. He's always serious about everything He said to do. He's just as serious about what He said not to do. We live in obedience to His law, every word if it! He dwells within us all to be with and lead us in His ways. 💕🙏🔥 🕊️
Deuteronomy 28 there are blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. The whole chapter, and verse 46 is one example of generational curses. These go into the following generations, the 3 and 4th. Our children pay the price for our sin. Stop sinning you are sending consequences to yourself and to your loved ones, children. By God's law you are. If you don't believe me ask Him, in Jesus name may you see and know the truth in it's fullness.
Love your neighbor as you love yourself.
Jesus is worthy of everything He said and paid for, so I implore you to do as God said.
Jesus said If you love me you will obey my commands. Love Him with all your heart, mind, soul and strength.💖🔥🕊️ 🙏
Praise God 🙏
Hallelujah Jesus 🕊️
In Jesus mighty name 🙏🔥🕊️ 💖
That's some pretty wood
I’d say you have some top of the line red cedar there Nathan! Don’t see wide cedar like that much at all anymore. Thanks Kindly and Many Blessings! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
I’m curious about what your buyers will make from those boards. There are many possible, I know. Let me add my thanks for taking the time to video, edit, and share. You have become one of my RUclips stars.
Sure do like your videos. I live less than one hour from the Woodmiser plant in Batesville Indiana. Have been there more than once. Great product, great people!
Beautiful. Been making knife handles with some red cedar that I have. The patterns make for a beautiful knife.
Is there something you would of done different with the kiln? Thanks4sharing
I’m right there with you in the Mill. RB, Nova Scotia.
I keep a square of cedar shakes in my custom furniture shop so every time I have a customer coming
to talk about a commission I cut up a couple to get the shop loaded with that incredible smell.
Gets them every time.
Did the cedar have some nails in it? I thought I spotted a couple. Beautiful results!
How long will that wood stay in the kiln? I really enjoy your videos. They are very informative.
That kiln must be _expensive_ to run! Get some solar panels to help with the electricity...
How long does a load of wood that size take on average I know it probably differs with the density but I just wonder on average
Don't some people wear masks when milling cedar?
Good evening to all from SE Louisiana 7 Sep 22.
lol aint it amazing how fast spreader boards dissappear? oh loved the music at the start.
Hi Nathan, thanks for the video clips you produce and post on-line !! This wood took me back to when I lived in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) about 50+ yrs .ago. My parents ran a hotel close to the Hwange Game Reserve and there was a small sawmill nearby. That wood you showed today looked just like the Red Teak that was milled near the Reserve !! Beautiful colour and had its own distinctive smell !!
Why anyone calls it anything but red cedar baffles me.
Holy crap is that a lot of work filling that kiln!
Side note, great chickens, fresh eggs are the best. Love all the beautiful wood.
Wow,tongue an groove that an make a beautiful walk in closet
I love the new music you have added to the beginning of your videos
you need to run those scabs thru a chipper so you can make cedar sachets for people to hang in their closets. Or hamster litter.
That cedar is some beautiful wood , we don’t have much of that here good video
Does not look like the chickens did a very good job getting the vines off that log
Beautiful! Bet the mill smells amazing sawing all that cedar
Beautiful
Beautiful southern red cedar logs
I am jealous of your beard! Do you use anything on it?
When you tap that door you gotta say "that's not going anywhere"
That's some beautiful wood
Beautiful cedar, brother.
Every time I see that vine covered log…. 😊
Thanks for the video Nathan. Back in the 50's there were 3 sawmills within 8 mile of our farm. Use to get sawdust and shavings for bedding. They were masters at their trade just like you it was fun to watch them. Only difference they all wore bib overhaul and had side chew in there mouth. Have a blessed day
I bet that smelled wonderful
We call it cedar here in WI and I do enjoy a good gin and tonic now and then.
So are they free range chickens now? 🤔
That Juniper is pretty enough to eat.
Its beautiful Thanks
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼
That's some pretty wood
Prrrdy, nice sounds too. 👍
Do you think green stickers leave bad marks on lumber that is dried
yes
😊👍🌎🌞👍
Juniper? Type o ??
👋🏻
those leaning panels in the kiln. is that to draw incoming air from the opposite side from the exit fans so the air flows across the drying stack??
Yes
You are right; it's very unusual to see such nice Cedar/ Juniper. Good video.
Dave
Glad you enjoyed it
Cheers
gEEZ
On what you call "wind chimes" is that rust or just dust on it at the hinge jornts? It seems to to getting worse.
Sawdust
ummm, it's Eastern Red Cedar y'all
all kidding aside, its great to see all of that valuable timber being milled out
That cedar looks great! When I was in junior high (I'm 73 now) I made my Mom a little box. She still had it full of "stuff" when she passed at 89. It's now on top of a piano.
Spectacular cedar. Reminds me of my uncle building a cedar closet for my auntie. Man I could smell the saw mill that day! Great upload Nathan.
That's some nice looking ceder there Nathan. Glad to see u managed beat the rain. It's crazy how people dont realize how long it takes to process wood never mind film it aswell. But we all appreciate it that u do. Thanks buddy!🏴👍👏
How many boards in 5" on 4 qtr
4 qtr is 1/4 of an inch.
Those Wooley Mammoth Legs you are sawing up turn out just right!!!
Nathan, was wondering for a while now, how much electricity do you use in a month, how much does it vary from summer to winter? Not the cost, more like the kWh you pull, for kiln and sawmill, not for diesel on your vehicles.
Cheers
In the beginning, was that sawdust or rust on the saw vertical column follower bearings. If rust, you better get on that.
Beautiful colour on that cedar, I bet it smelt absolutely magical!
Beautiful wood and bet it smells so good in the saw mill after cutting it!! Need smell-a-vision Nathan Lol!! Stay safe always!!
That cedar is probably some of the best lumber I've seen you mill. If I were closer I'd offer to buy some.
A lil' demolition derby day with the cameras today Brother! Well done none the less Nathan!
Nathan, I think you need some roll cases off the end of the mill. It would reduce the rehandling of lumber and slabs and wear and tear to your back.
Question? First of all, that is some amazing Cedar. About how long will that take to dry out enough to then use on a project?
