Hollywood wasn't ready for this. Someone in another comments section says if this movie was made today they'd receive Oscar nods.
I agree. But there are also those who believe that people should not act characters that they are not... So, they might also get backlash from it.
I do love this movie tho! It's a shame I dont have DVD 😢
@@annienemus7088 You pinned down in your comment what bothers me right now about the casting backlashes.
The problem has always been that there are soooo many talented actors and only so many roles. Now with more networks and less of a “feature-film-television” barrier, there’s many productions going on. That doesn’t mean they will all get the acclaim needed to launch or sustain a career.
So it’s still such a combination of talent, timing and luck, and this roulette wheel spins the wrong way, too.
Add to this over a century of longing to work and be seen doing good work by actors in almost every country. Actors that couldn’t break through except for the rarest of exceptions.
So I understand the sudden attempt to channel casting by the correct matches ethnically for each character.
But that’s not quite perfect, either. Casting to make up for past unfairness...theatre has never worked that way. I doubt it will for long.
The Oscars have been playing catch-up since they began, awarding one year to some one who deserved it really, the year before, five years before. It never works out completely.
Not sure what will happen.
Acting is about becoming some one else. It’s almost more fair to cast against type and have people wear face-altering makeup who’ve never had the chance.
Idk. There always going to be an element of make-believe in dramatic arts. That is as it should be. But what do I know!
@@annienemus7088 this movie is well-respected
@@ruffianoo i mean John Leguizamo said if this movie was made today he would like his character to be played by a trans woman, that's who Chi-Chi was. the industry was unfair then and it's still unfair now but it's getting better sorta
@@BernardoPatino isn't she a drag queen tho??
this is literally the opening of every drag race finale opening
Most pageants are like this
Yes, ma'am it is, okurr henny?

When Blade isn't fighting vampires, he's getting in touch with his femininity.
omg it's blade's twin sister
Blades twin Sister, she pretty much could be
😂😂😂
And KILLING IT in the process! 🤣😍
@@leonelsanabria6750 Blade's twin Sister Slayah!
Patrick at his finest. A real challenge for three hard men. Patrick looks positively beautiful
Tbh Jo--chichi was the most amazing one
@@listentocky1 especiqlly in the final scene.
that was a perfection visualized, like butterfly emerging from its cocoon.
Snipes, Swayze & Leguizamo we’re truly beautiful as drag queens great movie
Not Snipes he was terrible looking as a drag queen nice looking man but not as a woman but the movie was funny.

I don't care what anyone have to say...Wesley Snipes played that part💯 He's definitely one of the GOATS💯
you realize he burned the clothes he wore after doing the film, right
@@DarknessHashira Nooooo 😯😭
Can we please take a second to appreciate how RIDICULOUSLY STUNNING Patrick looks in drag.
Miss Mitsy was the prettiest. But my fav parts was Coco Peru crushing the cup and Joey Arias screaming lol
I have so much more appreciation for this movie now that I am an adult.
This movie is amazing, Patrick Wesley and John are awesome actors
Patrick looks absolutely stunning, like wow!
Dont understand why drag stars aren't more famous than famous people...they are way more magical
yes they are 😉
Wow, Patrick Swayze and John Lequizamo look great in drag!
Excuse your mouth for forgetting Wesley Snipes!
Lady Bunny and Coco Peru!
I've met both ladies and they never age and are gracious as ever.
Where's Lady Bunny?

Wesley Snipes is so good at everything he does
I just luv the way Weasley snipes rock luv it ❤️
1:27 : Coco's character was given a gun you can see in her hand but the writers decided to scrap the idea of her pulling a "pumped up kicks" at the end of the movie and never edited out the gun.
Well, you answer a long time question I've had about that scene lol. Thanks
Imagine Drag Race was still more than ten years away from beginning. But at least the queens had some representation in his 90s film, hehe.
Yeah..... Drag Queens were all the rage in the talk shows of the 80’s and 90’s..... and back in the day, you actually had a life in the real world....you just watch tv....
I was 6 when this movie came out? Haha I remember my mom taking me to see this movie. No wonder I’ve always loved drag culture and gravitated towards creative, outrageous outfits at parties.
I felt sorry for Chi Chi, but the other girls were right: She was just a Latin boy in drag, not a fully-fledged drag queen.
But she became one in the end. 🥰
@@miraclesan3259 yassssssss dat GOWN waZ FIYA 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😄😃🤪🧐😯🤓😗👍👍🪒

Rupaul Pilot Episode of Drag Race
Ru Paul was actually in this movie playing a character called Rachel Tensions. So was Robin Williams (as a cameo)
Yes, RuPaul put his stank all over To Wong Foo, hon-tay!
@@RachRedbird and Naomi Campbell as well, she made a cameo appearance
drag queen by night, vampire hunter all night
They look fabulous!
Besides Coco Peru, I'd love to find out what happened to the other queens in the scene. Anybody have any links?
The girl with the white hair, that screams in front of Noxeema, is Joey Arias. Still performing in NY.
Lady Bunny is not on the runway, but sitting (and maybe judging) with the late Quentin Crisps in this clip.
This is My Favorite movie from the 90s

@@idleking31 haha. That's funny dude.
I wanted more of the movie. Huhu Noxima Jackson in the house, of course there's Miss Vida. 🥰
You ROCK WESLEY!!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wesley/Patrick/John must have got paid really good for doing this movie.
I know it's well stated they were 100% onboard with the project, all expressing pretty equal amounts of enthusiasm.
@@tylerwarren7175 i don't know with the things that is going on in Hollywood now you never know what the hell is really going on i hope it was the money.
Antonio Chapman obviously. And it shows what great actors they are/were.
@@Daniellelp921 i agree Wesley Snipes is my favorite actor of all time love his movies he is the best martial artist ever i hate he is not playing Blade no more but he is going to be in the Coming to America sequel and hopefully maybe he will return to his famous iconic Villain role as Simon Phoenix in the just announced Demolition Man sequel.
Can't stand that your favorite actor was willing to play a drag queen? Looks like someone's masculinity is threatened lol
Back then, I didn't know what the term "drag queens" was, but now I do.
I remember well as a little girl I always loved the one at 0:9sec
Always thought she was very beautiful and my mother never understood why lol I still feel the same today haha
Wesley snipes looked like Naomi Campbell for a moment hahahah. Theu ate Very beautiful
I think Patrick in drag looks a bit like Cate Blanchett special in that wig. Who else does Patrick remind anyone else in drag remind them of?
Me passing by my haters at work home school and at church .40sec

Miss Coco Peru not even remotely aging is witchcraft.

I miss this kind of drag... The look, I mean.
I have to admit some of these drag queens are convincing

If this came out their beat would beating and baby hairs be curling
What’s this running joke for Wesley Snipes? What about Patrick and John?
Apparently he hated this role, not because he hated the character but because of the hassle of the costuming and makeup and stuff.
