I know cardamom in coffee, it comes from Arabia, but I've never heard of nutmeg in coffee!
Like pasta water, the water for the dumplings must also be salted, otherwise they taste bland.

I think she's got something mixed up:
on Christmas Eve, many people in Germany eat sausages with potato salad. Not bratwurst, though (that's not for Christmas!), but boiled sausages, wieners, frankfurters or something similar.
On Christmas Day or Boxing Day, many people do indeed have dumplings and red cabbage for lunch. But with a nice roast, goulash or goose, duck, ... Certainly not with bratwurst - especially not bratwurst that has been drowned in sauce. Bäh.

agree, no one eats bratwurst for christmas but the approach is quite authentic. by the way making potato dumplings or even mashed potatos, never cut them in such small pieces they will lose to much flavor to the cooking water.

I never heared of Bratwurst. In my family we keep it simple on dec.24 Holy evening or christmas eve with Weißwurst and Wiener and Debreziner sausages with Brezen and potato salad (because the 24th is a lent day) but these sausages are heated in water (not boiled). Dec. 25th and 26th the big dishes comes to the table 😁. My mayor problem is this potatoe dumpling have no bounce. To less starch in the potatoes i guess. Looks very solid but potatoe dumplings should be fluffy, sticky, bouncy

I don´t think someone eats bratwurst for christmas, or at last, i never heard about it.

I don't understand why she cooks the bratwurst sausages in the sauce again, it takes away all the crispiness!

Red cabbage with sausages? That's a no go. Absolutely not common in Germany. Never ever seen this.

I cried loud out: "Nein, nein, nein, nein..." Not for Xmas! In my family it is not uncommon, to eat Bratwurst (a white kind of Bratwurst) and Blaukraut, but with roasted potatoes and a green salad. But not for christmas! That's the no go...

Nutmeg is great, but you have to use it very sparingly.👌🏻

i knew that she will be doing the sausage myth.
I never herad of anyone eating sausage (doesn't matter which kind) for christmas eve or christmas.
maybe in the east that's more common but definitely not for most germans.
red cabbage, potatoes and a nice roast beef, horse roast(in cologne and other areas of nrw) , roulades, duck or lamb is what most people do.

@@Pjalphareacting i know some ppl that eat wiener wursts at christmas eve, my family eats traditional slesian food, where my mother was born, which is now poland. its white sausage, bright sauerkraut very mild and potatoes with melted butter, so it does exist, but its not that common. alot of ppl in the us think that we all eat bratwurst on christmas eve like you eat turkey all at thanksgiving.
