I just updated my panel in my Dakota. We installed a JPI 930, a G5 HSI, Garmin 650 w/ Flightstream, Garmin GFC 500 with autotrim, adder some other whizbang stuff to the G5 GAD i forget the number, new clean panel, new clock with dual use power outlets. Total cost right at 56k
I feel your pain. First annual on my 75 Arrow 3 years ago was 22k as well. As I have said before, we are buying someone else’s mess. Hence they are selling. Buyer beware. Very few 40-50 year old planes when changing hands are immune from the “first annual blues.” Let’s see that baby in the air!
Every plane I've owned, I immediately redo the wiring harness, cables, fuel lines, all of it. I have no interest in flying something that isn't perfect. That becomes incredibly hard when you're flying a twin engine. Far more complex.
Really well done review of your annual, Sam. I'm dropping mine off for annual later today - Fingers crossed! Since you were looking for advice regarding panel and glass for an Aztec, I would suggest you take a look at a video of mine from Jan 7th, 2020. I do a lengthy review of my avionics starting at 9:30 and could not be happier with the setup I've got in our Aztec. Best of luck and we can't wait to see you get your Aztec up in the air!
Thank you for dropping by! I will look into your video for sure. If memory serves me your panel is loaded! Not certain if we want to put that kind of money in ours but we will keep it in mind. Btw good luck with your annual! I hope it is a better experience than ours was.
So it's been about 3 months since the annual. When do we get to see some Aztec flying? I had an Apache years ago and it was my favorite plane. I really miss it.
Hey Larry! I'm so sorry about that. I've been really busy with college and work, it's tough to find time to edit videos. I have been flying the Aztec and getting my training done. I have some footage shot trying to edit it right now! Thanks so much for being patient.
Im afraid you will learn the cost of owning an old twin is very high. If you ad all your expenses up you will find out that lovely flying but thirsty old Aztec will cost you close to $350 per hour
Hey sweet an update. Ok so I have to ask, did you do a pre-buy on the aircraft? Were you expecting major issues? Looking at getting a cherokee 6 or similar but with their prices not sure I could handle a huge unexpected bill after the fact.
Hey Donnie! Yeah we were thinking of going JPI, I'll let you know what we decide. Also I'll keep you in mind for the interior, not 100% sure what we want to do yet.

I love the Aztec. I got my Multi-Instrument on an Aztec E.
Hope to see a video soon, I enjoy your channel

@@samueltheaviator4802 Great. Can't wait! I miss the Apache, but an Aztec flies like an Apache with balls!
Good job Sam! Best of luck and don't forget to add Camguard!
Thanks for the comment! I'll look into that.

Next annual should be quite less. Enjoy your machine.

My man Sammy.
Not too bad
Man your annual cost what my 1953 Piper Pacer cost. Nice job though.
JPI engine monitor.
I happen to know a guy that does interiors... wink, wink.

Sounds like the previous owners lied.
Good video, but Dude, stop repeating yourself constantly, Really hard to listen to at times!!!! Say it once and be done!
Painful on all levels.
Everything is ridiculously overpriced.
