- Today we correct what I consider to be a let down on the C8 Corvette convertible. The ability to see the engine. AMT Custom Designs not only give you an option to be able to see it but do it better than anyone else. In my opinion. I absolutely love the yellow trim around the plexi-glass and the engine cover looks just amazing. Great color match.
The carbon flash paint on the tonneau covers are an EXACT match to the GM carbon flash. I will leave the order info below.

I'd be fearful of the long gevity of the heat transmitting through to the liner of the top. There's quite a bit of insulation beneath the factory black plastic shield.
Yeah. I’ve considered that. I don’t drive for long periods of time with the top down.

WOW Jason. You hit this one out of the park! I love it! Plus, AMT Custom Designs products are beyond compare and I have some of their products on my C6 GS with some more on the way. Eventually though, a lot of the vendors will not be offering items for the C6's anymore, so I thought I better get what I can now. FWIW, I think before the C8 goes out of production, GM will make a see-through engine bay cover like what is on the coupes. The likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini have them for the convertibles, so GM better catch up. Can you imagine what your engine bay would look like being able to see it full time and with maybe some LED lighting?

Definitely looks much better, but have two issues. 1. you will not see the engine spending quite some money but you will see a colorful engine cover. 2. I have doubt concerning the heat propagation. The additional plastic engine cover partially stops the heat flow from the engine, so not sure will not cause overheating the engine in long term.
I’m not sure about the overheating. I took my car to the track a few weeks back and there were no overheating issues and no damage to the polycarbonate plastic. I’ve had it on my car for probably a year and so far no issues. The product has been on the market for way over a year and as far as I have heard, no issues on anyone else is either. I will know more in additional time.
Very cool. You did a great job and looks amazing. Nonetheless, be careful as there was a heat shield on the piece you removed. That heat shield was there for a reason. If you don't believe me, measure the temperature against a non modified car. Heat has consequences over time.
I just ordered my clear cover with a stripe. Is it a lot of money, yeah! I will enjoy being able to look at the engine with the tonneau open. It’s the best of both worlds. I understand for some people they can’t justify it and when I start adding up all the mods I have done or am planning on doing its a lot of money. It’s your car enjoy what makes you happy! Looks great to me!

Looks great and I love the idea of having a view of the engine. I have the same concerns as everyone else regarding heat...also wrapped my top so interested to see if PPF / colour wraps are an issue with heat. Are you using this as your permanent engine cover or only for shows? I'd love to be able to use it permanently and not have to be swapping back and forth with the OEM cover.
I am using it all the time.
AMT said it’s high heat polycarbonate. I also haven’t really heard of anyone with issues so hopefully it’s all good!

$600.........Paaleez! That's awful expensive for a piece of plastic. I'm sure in time after cleaning , you won't be able to see through it. Sorry.........Then you have to take it off from time to time to clean the engine itself. I used to have to clean the engine on my 2021 coupe more often than I would have liked. Now with my 2022 HTC I raise the engine cover, give it a little dusting and I'm good to go. I got over seeing the engine and never looked back!
I don’t drive a ton or in bad weather so I’m sure it’ll be fine. I asked a couple other people about theirs and they haven’t had any issues as of yet. Time will tell. Maybe I’ll do a 6 month update or something.

It looks great but I noticed the stock cover has some heat shield material on it. How much hotter does the top get when retracted? Or does the paint on the back deck lid or whatever you want to call it get? Will the paint fade over time from extra heat?
I’m not sure. Hasn’t yet. The cover is polycarbonate and is “supposed” to withstand the heat. The product has been on the market for well over a year and so far, I haven’t heard anything bad.

I assume through the vents in the rear.
How much did it cost? I saw so.eone had the outside of it see tbrough as well so when the top is on then you can see the engine from the outside on the "convertible"

I have a question ☝🏼recently yes purchase a HTC c8 thinking to buy clear cover bad how much heat can handle that type of material
I don’t know the full amount but it is able to withstand normal and even above normal driving temps. At least in my experience. I have also not heard of any issues and this product has been out for a couple years. Maybe if I was doing a track day I’d put the GM cover back on but for the rest of the time, I’m leaving this one on.
How often do you remove it to clean the underside?
I haven’t had to yet. But keep in mind I only drive it on Saturdays and then on Sundays just to church.

I think 5-6 months. No issues at the moment. The product has been out for probably 2 years. I haven’t heard of anyone else having issues either.

I don’t think it has fireproof but it is supposed to be heat resistant.

It’s not supposed to. It’s high heat polycarbonate.

Going to have food trucks, giveaways, 50/50 raffle etc. The last Corvette Takeover we did had 143 total Vettes. Not sure this will have that many but should still be good. We’re looking to do some bigger/better ones as the year goes on.

I think haters will be haters.I Own a 2021 htc and just ordered the clear cover. Having a htc and being able to put a clear panel to see the engine is having your cake and eating it too. Nothing beats a top down on a clear day. Also ordered the rear diffuser. Thanks for the videos. Your engine cover and clear cover look awesome.

Looks great. However, it doesn’t have the heat insulation on it that the stock cover has. Any worries about your top being exposed to more heat when the top is sitting over the engine?
Yes. But I’ve asked around and haven’t heard of any issues. This product has been out for a year and so far I haven’t seen or read about any problems elsewhere either. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it.

Jason; if you aren't having any issues with it in Texas, I don't think I will have any in NJ.
I went to school in Texas and froze my butt off during the winter and I was baked crispy brown in the summers!

On the website the C8 Corvette HTC Tonneau Inserts are just a mirrior/clear. can you get them with color accents or is yours a unique custom design?
I believe you can get them with the wavy lines. Were you in the AMT site? They also have a phone number. You can call them as well for confirmation.
Does it reflect the heat like the stock cover does
I’m not certain it’s as good as the stock cover but I driven with it quite a bit now and no issues. Even went to the track and ran some laps and still no issues.
These are actually manufactured by RapidRev. They also just sent out a video thats on youtube doing temperature testing on them vs OEM engine cover.

Seems to be good so far. Even hit the track a couple weeks ago and so far so good. No issues.

Let’s have a look at it after you driven it for about a month, the last thing I need is more to clean on the vehicle so it looks decent
lol. I hear ya. I do not daily mine so it’s not an issue. I’ve cleaned it once in the last year. If you daily your car then it may be an issue.
Is there no seal between the cover and the car body?
Yes. There’s a seal.
I would prefer the clear cover, on the rear hatch just saying

There was no cover on it from factory. I guess because it’s not visible they don’t install one.
Now you need to cut a whole in the trunk and make it visible from the outside. It's been done already. Looks great!

Have fun keeping it clean I think the heat will make it yellow and you would need a special cleaner so you don't scratch it but it does look great
Believe it or not, so far, no issues. I’ve had on for probably 1,000 miles even drove some dusty roads on Saturday and my car was filthy but the cover just needed and exterior dusting. No big deal. May be an issue down the road but nothing as of yet.

@FRONT SEAT DRIVER If you placed your hand on it after a longer drive, I'm sure that question would be answered. If it'd warm/hot it should be fine. If you have to call an ambulance it's not enough shielding lol

Engine Window by HTC to see engine bay when convertible is closed allows you to still see the engine bay....

I notice absolutely no difference. I even took my car to the track recently and no issues. I’ve only cleaned it once as well. But I don’t drive in the rain either.

you removed heat shield and replaced with glass. what about the heat? is it a concern?
I’ve looked it up and can’t find anyone with issues. The glass is heat tempered or something. I’m definitely monitoring it though. I definitely would swap back temporarily if I was doing any hard driving with the top down. Just as a precaution.
It looks great. I just hope it doesn’t void the warranty. GM will use any excuse. Keep us posted . I will consider after a year or two.

I find engine covers bake wiring insulation over time making it brittle and falling off 😮
It’s possible I suppose but I don’t see that being an issue for me considering the miles per year I drive. I have heard that’s not an issue with the newer cars but I definitely don’t know for sure.

When it comes to improvements for that area where the engine is far as a heat shield making it so that it's visible and also some of you guys are installing devices to keep the water out to a certain extent. Did anyone consult with any of the corvette engineers about these changes?
That is information I do not have but my understanding is that the manufacturer tested the product. That said, if I’m going on long drives or doing “spirited” driving my top will be up. 1. For safety. 2. As a precaution to prevent possible heat damage to my roof.
I believe there’s a RUclipsr with a video that tested the heat and found it was acceptable.
I still think it’s better to err on the side of caution. Although this product has been out for over a year and I’ve never heard of any negative issues.
$7,500 extra for the convertible and they take your engine cover away! Huge difference with that clear cover!

Agreed. There’s a brand that offers it now but for me the cost is prohibitive. There’s the product plus bodywork that needs to be done so this is as good as it gets for me. I do love this though. And everyone I show it to absolutely love it as well.

Agreed. There’s a product that allows you to see the engine while closed. I like it but I don’t want to cut the body to have it installed.

@@FrontSeatDriver it's an engine, that people put a engine cover on designed to look like any thing that designer designed, so one is not really looking at an engine but looking at an engine cover....then to top it off with a clear cover again makes no sense,,,,
@@pryerpalm10103 oh…. I gotcha. Correct, it’s an intake cover. I think it looks substantially better than without. Just my personal opinion. The glass is likely to reduce the heat from the engine. Some people have asked if it causes issues when the roof is down. As far as I know, no. Rick Conti did a video about this I believe and gave it a thumbs up and I do not know if anyone that has had any issues.
What heat by the way,,, I feel no additional heat in my car,,, people just mention stupid things like this and it seems everyone just wants jump on the bandwagon to put something in when you don't, in fact there was one who put a heat barrier in his trunk...he mention people need it cooler in there, and I replied well stop putting people in your trunk.... such a waste if time
