I've salvaged many a classical LP on my VPI cleaning machine. It does a fantastic job on very dirty records. It can't repair ticks caused by poor treatment, but still.....I'm glad I bought it 20 years ago.

Always interesting, and for me well out of comfort zone musically so it's good to learn from someone that knows their stuff. Keep the videos coming 👍

I bought all the Sky records. John Williams on guitar - they're cheap and cheerfull - Pop / Prog / Classical - you might like them.

Stuart should definitely go back for them. You not only have John Williams on guitar, but other legends like Herbie Flowers (electric guitar/bass) and Tristram Fry (percussion). Lots of fun tracks, including - on "Sky2" I think - their biggest hit, _Toccata._

I’d have bought a bunch of the Chris De Burgh albums for 1£ each.
Can’t find his stuff here in Thailand.

Ahh, just seen disaster on Static Traveller - he withdrew the video, but loads of his records are warped ..... so don't know what happened.
Thats after I just received 2 records - they put both records in one sleeve and completely scratched one record! unbelievable....

Simple solutions: buy a CD of it, or play it on a streaming service, or download it. Even the best stylus damages a vinyl album every time it is played, eventually rendering the album unlistenable.

I have been playing albums for 35 years and never had any degradation. Go away with your CD propaganda. I listen to vinyl because I prefer the sound to streaming or CD. Good for you if you prefer CD but don't tell lies.

@@LPCLASSICAL Lies? A diamond tracking a soft vinyl groove wears that groove. Everyone who has ever played a record knows this phenomenon. I'm not sure why you prefer not to believe that reality. The friction and weight of an extremely hard (if polished) stone being dragged through the channel of a vinyl groove will inevitably have a physical effect. How could it not?

You are making this out to be a big problem generally and it is not. I agree there is degredation after every play but it is so marginal that it takes dozens of plays before anything is noticed. In a small pop collection heavily played it may be an issue but for collectors like me with a big collection I have no LP played by me more than 10 times and these have obviously been played before I had them - it is not an issue. 1% degradation after 100 plays is not going to be a problem - I am not saying that is the % but it could be something like that.
CDs also have annoying faults that can occur - the dreaded clicking etc and they are then unplayable.
You get that my channel is for vinyl enthusiasts who generally prefer the sound of vinyl over other sources? So why the dumb comment about try CD as a solution. The solution is play records that have no significant audible defects.

@@RebeccaTurner-ny1xx Ridiculous. Of course records wear over time. Everything does. Using a good line contact cartridge however not only minimizes record wear, but the better the vinyl formulations further minimize wear. Nevertheless let's not pretend that there isn't a such thing as disc rot which makes CD's completely unplayable over time.

As long as the stylus is in good condition and at the correct tracking weight it would take many plays before you discerned any deterioration in sound. I have some BBC archive records that have been played scores of times, without loss of sound quality. On the other hand I have had CD's which get a tiny scratch on them and they are rendered useless. On holiday in Llandudno last year I picked up Aled Jones's first recorded vinyl at a charity shop. It had a school stamp on the sleeve and had obviously been played many times. Yes, there is the occasional background pop and crackle but the voice is intensely clear and engaging. I already had the CD and, good though it is, it does not compare with the record for euphony and musical involvement.

I am always wary of any used DG. Unless scrupulously cleaned and preferably only played with the lid down, they seem to attract copious dust and what started as a quiet record quickly becomes a minefield of noise and stuck or skipping grooves. Some of the noise may be static generated, but I have found other brands with heavy static electricity that do not generate the same level of noise.

I like your videos and taste in music and went onto your shop website. Nowhere could I find what your returns policy is - only how to initiate a return. Do you accept returns if the buyer does not agree with your grading? Incidentally, Karajan is pronounced Kariyan.

    • @LPCLASSICAL
      @LPCLASSICAL  12 дней назад

Yes I do take returns. Anything you are not satisfied with can be returned for a full refund. Thanks I know the correct pronunciation for Karajan even if I don't use it all the time. Let me know if you find any other mis pronunciations. Wait for me to say Johann Strauss wrong too and let me know the correct form when I do.

@@LPCLASSICAL That's a very fair policy. HAHA Johann Strauss is easy. Some of the Gaelic ones, such as Ruaidri Dáll Ó Catháin, are impossible.
