  • (and Wake Him Up With a Oo-La-La)
    A WWI song from 1918
    Words by Andrew B. Sterling
    Music by Harry Von Tilzer
    Lyrics
    1. Girls, have you heard the very latest news
Girls, when you do, you’ll surely get the blues
You had better learn to parlez-vous
When your soldier boy comes back to you
Girls, he has learned a lot of things in France
Girls, when you marry him, you’ll get your chance
You’ll have to do your talking in French
When he comes back from the trench
    Chorus
You’ll have to do your little parlez-vous
You’ll have to coo just like the French girls do
You’ll have to tease in French
You’ll have to squeeze in French
You’ll have to la la la la all in French
You’ll have to learn to say “come-ci, come-ca”
And when you sing for your Pa Pa
It’s up to you to sing ze French songs, too
    Because when you get through
    With Yankee Doodle doo
You’ll have to put him to sleep with the Marseillaise
And wake him up with a Oo la la
    2. Girls, you have heard about ze French Coquette girls
She has never overlooked a bet
Picture one now sitting on a bench
Teaching your boy how to spoon in French
Girls, “over there” they have such loving ways
Girls, “over there” they have no loveless days
And every kiss is chock full of pep
When he comes back, watch your step

Thank you. "Cute song" but kind of weak. If the CHORUS has more of a French flavor, it would've been a stronger song.
