Julian Beck, the man who played the iconic Henry Kane, acted in Poltergeist 2: The Other Side was diagnosed with stomach cancer late in 1983, principle photography began on the film in May of 1985 and by September he passed away. If you were ever curious why this man appears to be creepy, looks ill and even like he is dying or undead now you know, he would have been well into the process of chemotherapy/radiotherapy and suffering from the side effects. With that said truly, with some of his remaining strength, he gave us a villain to be terrified of.
The Vomit-Creature scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. Especially the midway-transformation that Noble Craig played that crawls from under the bed, turns and looks at the parents with a devilish smile, then scurries off. Still creeps me out a bit to this day.
I'm sorry to inform that Johnny was in a terrible accident which ended up with both his legs and arms having to be amputated. His face was terribly disfigured too and he lost sight, hearing and speech.... Now review Johnny got his gun!
Someone here asked what happened to the other sister from the first film, I can't reply to their comment and I can't tag them in this comment, so hopefully they'll see this. Actress Dominique Dunne (the older sister, Dana) was murdered shortly after the first film was released. The murderer was her ex-boyfriend, he had strangled her to death. She was 22 years old.
I loved the Prison Break t-shirt you wore in this video. I really liked that series and was lucky enough to be an extra in 4 episodes of Season 3. Great review, as always, man. Keep 'em coming! ^_^
Funny review but so worth it to see a new set of TANGINA death scenes...a friend and mine have done that for years even before your reviews. Would love to hang with you and your friends making Poltergeist III quotes...
Poltergeist 2 is my favorite of the franchise. To me it has the best acting, effects, story/pacing, and is fun from beginning to end while having genuine moments of suspense. The first took itself too seriously and was too leisurely, and while part 3 is cheesy fun, and my second favorite, it doesn't have the gravitas of the first two installments.
MrHootiedean Poltergeist (1982) - My personal favorite. The leisurely pacing of the first half made the horror segments all the more impactful. I enjoy it's serious tone, because it is a serious movie. I could watch it five times in one day and not get tired of it. The great acting, cinematography, special effects and terrifying concept. Not to mention the music. I honestly think the first two Poltergeist movies have some of the best music music in any horror film ever. Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986) - My second favorite. This one is allowed to move faster than the first, because while the first had to introduce and develop all these characters from scratch, this one is allowed to pick the pace earlier on. It also has one of the most sentimental and gorgeous scenes in all of cinema. Where Diane is reminiscing about her mother in the garden. The music, the visuals, JoBeth Williams fantastic performance, it's beautiful. Julian Beck is also frightening. The FX are even better than in the first one, and this one is a little more fun to watch than the first, but since I judge the movies on what I think the quality is, instead of how much I enjoyed it, this movie is lower than the first, but only slightly. Poltergeist III (1988) - Quality wise, the worst of the trilogy. The worst acting, the worst writing, the worst directing, the worst scares, the worst Kane replacement, the worst movie all around of the trilogy. But Goddamn it, this movie is so entertaining, and the effects with the mirrors are very good. The characters, even though the acting isn't good, are all likable, and the music at the end is just gorgeous and it's so much fun to watch. Many unintentionally funny scenes, many classic moments, but easily the weakest of the three. This is just my opinion. Sorry if this seems a little irrelevant to your comment, my account is having a weird bug where I can't post a comment on a video unless I'm replying to someone.
Great reviews mate, you have a great sense of humour. Is there any chance you make a grown man very happy by reviewing the Karate Kid trilogy it's long overdue from you, The Karate Kid- with the likes of John Krease, Johnny Lawrence and the cobra kai;s. Karate Kid 3- With John Kreese's old Vietnam buddie, the LEGEND that is Terry Silver, Would love to hear your take the famous trilogy, Keep up the good work PEACE.:)
