Some music historians trace the idea of a singer having backup dancers to Elvis' Jailhouse Rock. He choreographed this number and it's one of the first times where a performer put specific moves to a specific song. The impact he had on what we think of standard for the music industry is far greater than anyone knows but Elvis wouldn't take credit since he hated his nickname of "King," and the credit that he invented rock n roll.
Those moves are solely Elvis's. He created those moves and many tried to shut him down because of his moves. But young people seeing him perform for the first time went crazy!

I've been following your reactions for a long time and they are always wonderful. Thank you man. One thing I would say about Elvis that cannot be said enough is how ethletic he was. That dude was an athlete.
Sorry, I love Elvis just as much as you, but he did not create these moves. He adopted them from the Blues and R&B dancers that he grew up playing with. I'm not gonna act like he stole the moves because that's just how exposure goes, but he didn't invent the moves. He rocked the moves for sure and did them better than most at the time.
Elvis grew up going to black clubs in Memphis such as The Flamingo Room. He would watch performers such as Calvin Newborn & Billy Emerson who were known for their flamboyant dance moves (Newborn was known for standing on his toes whilst playing guitar). • Well, I'm going to have to agree to disagree with some of you on this one guys. I'm not saying he never saw anyone else dancing or wasnt slightly influenced by others but, I feel what he did on a national stage was completely his own. He was much more original then I think people give him credit for. And, also, from a much more "broader perspective" he opened the door drastically for this type of stage entertainment on a national level. The majority of his original fan base grew up listening to a voice on a radio... it's a completely different experience to actually be able to "SEE" him moving around and feeling the music. Elvis had the looks, had the charisma, had the talent, had the style, and had the exposure to become what he was and still is... the King of Rock and Roll. In my humble opinion lol 😉
It's clear to see, these dance moves from 1957 and even before in '56 , were taken in by one, Michael Jackson. Michael grew up seeing re-runs of Elvis movies and took these dance moves to a higher level with choreography...hell, MJ even married Elvis' only daughter, Lisa Marie! Imitation is the highest form of flatery.
This is my favorite movie scene …way ahead of it’s time. I love the songs Kentucky Rain , In the Ghetto and Suspicious Minds and of course, You were always on my mind and My Way!❤️

My favorite Elvis looks wise was right after he got out of the army (the year I was born) 1964 up to his '68 Comeback Special (before Vegas) but my love for Elvis was and will forever be...always.
Fun fact: Jimi Hendrix was in Little Richard's band for a short time; Little Richard said he let him go because he was stealing the spotlight.
Yup. Jimi HAD "it".
Little Richard is buried in my home town. Rip
Elvis grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi, he grew up in and around black Americans and his friends in the south loved Elvis Presley . He was born to be a star! He went to church tent revivals and juke joints he and his little friends would listen to all the blues music it’s no wonder he had so much soul! Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson …Gods sprinkled them with a bit more stardust for sure! They were wonderful humans who contributed to this world helping people less fortunate. Rest in Heaven , Youve received your crowns from the King of Kings.
This Is From His Movie Jailhouse Rock. 1957. He Was 22 Years Old. He Played Venice Everett. He Was Convicted Of Manslaughter. In A Bar Room Fight. Trying To Defend A Women. Those Were His Signature Moves. Great Movie. Lots Of Great Songs Also. Like Baby Your So Square. Treat Me Nice. Elvis Did 31 Movies. Over 700 Songs. Thanks. God Bless.
My understanding is that he did 33 feature films
@@janinefarris7565 he did but his last two movies That's The Way It is and Elvis on Tour were not scripted and were recordings of Elvis performing live.
They didn't call him Elvis the Pelvis for nothing! :)
This is Elvis in the 50's.. prolly 1956. and a little Trivia.. he choreographed this scene.
Many stations and places banned Elvis's music because it sounded to 'black' and his moves were too provocative! He helped people in the black community, but didn't care for any public acknowledgement because he just saw it as the decent and right thing to do!
Elvis go!
Brilliant thanks for reviewing 👌
I've been following your reactions for a long time and they are always wonderful. Thank you man. One thing I would say about Elvis that cannot be said enough is how ethletic he was. That dude was an athlete.
"Jailhouse Rock" stands - alone! Whoever before or after, but ELVIS - ever ROCKED OUT a song ALL about get down JAIL BIRDS!
You gotta love any song with the lyric "lay it on me daddy-o"!
Jailhouse Rock was Elvis Presley's first movie.
Elvis Presley was 22, years old when he made this
You're wrong. Elvis did not "have" the moves. Elvis literally CREATED the moves. There were no moves to be had before him lol. Just sayin 😉
@@TheBlackQueen Please show those that he got those moves from. Those were his moves. Period.
Elvis grew up going to black clubs in Memphis such as The Flamingo Room. He would watch performers such as Calvin Newborn & Billy Emerson who were known for their flamboyant dance moves (Newborn was known for standing on his toes whilst playing guitar). Yes Elvis was a great performer, but he was heavily influenced by black culture.

I would suggest you learn more about Elvis. He was the first singer to move his hips on TV. Old people didn't like it. Us kids loved him.
Lol skinny elvis
You are so funny babe
Love you so much
Good reaction xx
Ty that was fun!
Elvis .. ❤️🔥
You are so funny
Love you
Your reaction is so cool
Best amazing x
LOVE ELVIS & HIS FILMS👌LOVE GREASE TOO💃GREAT FEEL GOOD FILM👍STAY SAFE LOVE FROM THE UK❤
Now you know where Michael Jackson got his moves from! People say, Elvis danced just like Michael, NOOOO, Michael danced like Elvis!
You can see where Micheal Jackson was somewhat influenced by Elvis.
U Sir Are TOO FUNNY, LUV getting YOUR PROSPECTIVE 😃🤣😉😍😎😙 ALL THAT 😊
This is my favorite movie scene …way ahead of it’s time. I love the songs Kentucky Rain , In the Ghetto and Suspicious Minds and of course, You were always on my mind and My Way!❤️
Elvis was smooth AF!
Elvis was first with the moves I mean it was 1957 he was skinny up till the last few years of his life he was only 22 in the clip it's from the film Jailhouse rock his 3rd film you should check Elvis out from the 68 special and live in Las Vegas he was just awesome thank you 😷👍
I love Elvis but nah, he got his moves from the black performers he saw in Memphis clubs as a teenager. Calvin Newborn, Billy "The Kid" Emerson & more were local performers who were renowned for their flamboyant dance moves & Elvis loved them.
@@mojo-media I was on about he did them first before this generation I know Elvis got some of his moves elsewhere not all though he just had natural rhythm as well that can't be taught you've either got it or not stay safe 😷👍
@@mojo-media You can see that Michael Jackson was influenced by Elvis somewhat. Kind of goes in a full circle.
The”jerk” was a dance in the 60s My mom would do it sometimes when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s. Whatever you’re seeing on tiktok is just a recycled version. What goes around comes around. . .
That's not what "What goes around comes around" means, but ok.
@@Saranda4787 okay sure, there’s the Karmic meaning, but it can also be used for cyclical things like fashion and music (otherwise the Karma implications wouldn’t work for the saying)
TV wouldn’t show him from the waist down back in day
The King i back! Great reaction, bro!
You have to watch him perform hound dog from the Milton Berle show..
It reminds you of Grease because this part of Elvis's career was in the 1950s and that's the same time that Grease was set in. So yes the musical had the same feel.
You were expecting Little Richard to pop in because Little Richard sang rock 'n roll (in the 50s) too. Elvis actually did a cover of Little Richard's song "Tuttifrutti."
My best friend was was Elvis close friend and personal assistant. He and Elvis were great friends and Elvis shared lots of thoughts with him. He and I have talked a great deal about Elvis. The personal stories the public would really love to hear.
You crack me. I subcribed because of your sense of humor and great commentary
no way a man of his age has never heard the song Jailhouse Rock before. Absolutely no way, lol.
Like my mother used tell me ain't nothing new under the sun
he choreographed it for the film
I laughed so hard w your reaction
You have to understand how many years ago this was!
man how times have changed.. back then t.v. wouldn't show Elvis from the waist down because they thought his moves were obscene but now those moves would probably get a G rating lol. They definitely are tame compared to what is on t.v. and in movies today.
