The ERTL Thomas Lead Paint Recall

We've heard of the Thomas Wooden Railway lead paint recalls, but did you know ERTL had a similar crisis with their Thomas the Tank Engine diecast toys?

ERTL is a good company but just a small company in Iowa, they often got in over their heads with projects and got too ambitious.

It's not that I am calling ERTL a bad company over this. It's that I am shocked to see that the ERTL lead paint recalls were almost the same story with the Wooden Railway lead paint crisis from 2007-2008, but with a battery-operated Thomas that can catch fire.

@@BriceInkling138 I would wager that they aren't directly babysitting and watching each and every factory or supplier they get the paint from and after the approved batch ran out they would get it from another supplier that wasn't approved an using leaded paint, who knows. Lead paint is actually really common in toys. I'm sure you know about the issue with "Sarge" jeeps from the Cars movie being leaded to the gills.

The Ertl toys were recalled because of lead paint or some type of crisis or something broken and a choking hazard that’s why they got recalled and made correctly by the manufacturers😅

Don't lick them or handle with sweaty hands, you'll be fine. Also the human body can process lead at low amounts with no worry. A child obviously has a smaller body and the lead travels quicker through their bloodstream and overwhelms their organs faster.

The battery-operated Thomas would catch fire? I don't remember this ever happening, but it may explain why the one I had when I was a small child was suddenly disappeared from my toy collection!

Do the same lead levels apply to non-title character Ertl engines (I can't tell if you mean just the toys of the titular blue tank engine or all Ertl Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends toys) or Ertl Thomas toys produced before 1985?

Oliver is not in the recall, he was produced in 1993, and 1987 was when the recall was finished. James was sadly released in 1986, so just make sure it isnt a sticker face james
