Amazing! I didn't imagine there'd be an easy way to do that.

Real pull a rabbit out of a hat moment at the end there.
What do the seemingly arbitrary dimensions represent?

I know how to make a parametric version using CATIA

So this is totally awesome, but how do you scale this?

After looking around I fount this a calculator that will fined the distance to the middle They call it the Inradius if you take that and use it as your Extrude height after you input your edge length in the calculator. Make shore to double the Inradius.

Can i confirm that dimesion for thin feature is 31mm? Also other dimesion for draft angle is 26.57? the video isnt very sharp even on 720p so its hard to make out the settings.

This is an amazing simple method. Thank you so much!!! It even works in my ancient pirated solidworks 2006 running inside an ancient windows XP virtual machine.
I was able to get slightly better accuracy using the angle 25.565degrees such that I was able to measure all edges to be equal to 3 decimal places and the angle 108.000 on all pentagons using the solidworks measuring tool. For more math on dodecahedron see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regular_dodecahedron and from that I was able to get a better accuracy on the height using the formula there. The shortcut way is just Radius (of circumscribed sphere) is equal to edge length times a constant (1.401258538) and also you can get height with the formula for inscribed sphere which is equal to edge length time (1.113516364)... it's easier to just look at the wikipedia article formulas to understand it then to plug in the constants.

How would you make an irregular tetartoid?

  • @ryanmauery5459

Interesting, but it's inexact because you had to type in the angle, which is a numerical approximation and not analytic. Notice how when you were measuring the side lengths to compare, you weren't measuring more precise than the decimal point. You can make an exact dodecahedron by using 3D sketch, but it takes a few more steps.

Also, instead of using thin feature for the cut-extrude, you can just use "flip side to cut" and "up to surface". Then you're using less dimensions

Use angle 26.565 for 3 digit precision and use the formula for inscribed radius en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regular_dodecahedron for more accurate height. I was able to get 3 digits measured precision which is better than any of the printing of the shape I will get.
