"I don't like being wrong." This made me laugh out loud because I can relate very strongly. Every time I make a mistake it hangs over me for a while, both while driving and in other activities. I would have gotten flustered in that situation too.
I loved my old 80 Corolla, RWD, so much fun in the winter. I miss that T in the roof where the electrical or structure is in the roof.. Yes the wipers were 12 or 13 inches and didn't do anything and the tires were the same as a bicycle but all in all it was a well built functional car. It looks like yours was out in the sun too much and all the fake dashboard that came with them cracked from exposure. One thing I don't miss is the seat back support. You can see in your video how much that seat flexes...it was really flimsy but my seats were cracked so back that I had flannel or some type of shag carpet covers that they previous owner had put on them when I bought them....they were hilarious. Love the videos.
Around the NorthEast part of the US, it's a challenge to find old cars, even from the 90's now due to all the salty winters that tend to allow corrosion at faster pace. Definitely a fan of these kind of vlogs. :D
When you drive a car and it puts a smile on your face, that is when you know its worth it. I also hope the Corolla will last you a good long while too. Safe travels out there!
Sometimes you forget to shift, sometimes I forget to stop shifting. My car only has 5 gears, but I used to drive a truck with a 10-speed transmission, which I haven't driven in several years, but I still do it.
OK, I can't hold it in any more. Kurt, the 2TC is a torque engine, so get it in to 5th as soon as you can, gets quieter and saves gas. Second rev the knobs off it, to get the gears changed faster. It's a Toyota engine, they need rev's to get all the oil flowing nicely when accelerating. Well that's my excuse anyway. Use 5th it's just normal, for that car.
I have a White 1988 Toyota Corolla SR5 Coupe... truth. And it only has 100k miles on it currently with a maroon (Or dark red?) interior. It has an automatic trans with Overdrive switch with power steering and brakes... FWD, as far as I can tell, it pulls more than it pushes. Inherited from my grandfather who died back in June, there's only been one other owner who's owned it. So the mileage was up to around 80k miles when I first got it. All I can say, beautiful and smooth little car on little patches of rough road. Though the low ride height can have it scraping on steep inclines and high speed bumps. So far, I've had to replace the alternator, three belts (tune-up), the driver side door (from an accident), and a exhaust/muffler/gasket replacement. Believe me, I get that feeling too about the windshield wipers... especially when they start leaving streaks and you have to see OVER the streaks. For note, Kurt: My Corolla gets 270 miles at a maximum fill up without A/C or anti-fog on with... I wanna say a variable grade of inclines and declines. You could use the Antique plates, considering it's old enough to have them. Heck, even mine can have Antique plates. Also, I remember seeing a Datsun 240Z collecting dust in the Autobody shop (Pope's Autobody off on Draper Drive) I go to here in Virginia.
I can related to the noise issue. I drive a 2008 Jeep Liberty, which you wouldn't think would be a "loud" vehicle. Except I've added a lift kit and a glasspack muffler and 32 inch mud terrain tires. and a steel front winch bumper with D-rings. and some light bars and pods. My jeep is Loooooooouuuuuud going down the highway!
The Corolla so reminds me of my first car, a 1982 Chevrolet Chevette 4 door hatchback. Back when the American car companies were finally following the lead of the Japanese and making smaller more fuel efficient cars. Of course, it wasn't a classic when I had it, as it was three years old at the time, lol. But the build and interior style and even down to the lack of passenger side mirror is so similar to the Chevette. I also learned, from my brother, how to change spark plugs, oil and diff fluid on that car. It was then I decided I never wanted to do that stuff again, so after that car I never did, heh.
According to Wikipedia a Slant-6 engine (also known as a G-engine) is known for its reliability and durability. So probably like the Toyota 4 cylinder it's indestructible. :P
Hey Kurt, if you use android download a free app called Fuelio for keeping track of costs, mileage, and timelines. It's pretty amazing and easy to use. Been using it for about 2 or more years. Give it a shot.

Love the videos.
I didn't realize the car was still running in the parking lot portion.
That took me by surprise too. Must be fairly smooth and quiet - certainly sounding smooth under acceleration.

6:11 "Phantom Clutch" sounds so cool
Consult your doctor if you experience Phantom Clutch for more than 4 hours.
Like a metal band name!
Absolutely love the scenery and kurt-focused commentary. Exciting to hear the arguably accurate gauge readings during this, by the way haha
Love the car Kurt! Keep up the great work :)

kurt if it isnt too far you should goo too seattle cars and coffee on sundays 10-12 in the morning 333 strander blvd issaquah
In my country you can get just the mirror custom cut and replaced. Try a car glass shop.
I want to replace the entire housing as well, its cracked and faded, so might as well find a matching pair.
19:36 Oooh, 240Z's are beautiful.
I was half expecting Kurt to throw in a tire screech and crash sound as it faded to black, just to mess with us.
Well done! Thoroughly enjoyed!
Glad the sound turned out OK. Best fun there is - nice drive through beautiful country in something you got running good with your own hands.
Sometimes you forget to shift, sometimes I forget to stop shifting. My car only has 5 gears, but I used to drive a truck with a 10-speed transmission, which I haven't driven in several years, but I still do it.
Having both a 5 and 6 speed car, I know that feel to some degree.
The engine sounds pretty good to me, great work!
I thought you said no mods for the far lands series. I understand that it is taking forever but why use a car mod?

I love these vlogs. The car is looking great. Lovely scenery too, some nice looking houses there!

I'm used to driving a manual, my dad has an automatic, last year i slammed the brake while driving his car thinking it was the clutch lol
Looks like a good time Kurt :)
Has Wolfie eaten the dash?
When I have had that issue with my fuel gauge, the issue was the fuel pump was in the middle of a slow (multi year long) death.
I learned to drive in a Valiant.
Jesus thank you for having a manual transmission car in US :D
"hello ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another episode of spintires"
If you want a really unique car in the states you should go for SAAB 95, not to be mixed up with SAAB 9-5.

great car-rolla-vlog :-)
Did you just quote Beetlejuice at ~20:30?
