honestly THIS is still one of their best, if not the BEST song of Red Velvet! it is so classy and timeless and it will never get boring. Kingdom Come to me has similar vibes, but will never give me the same satisfaction Automatic gives. It's absolutely a great song not only because of it's simple yet powerful r&b sound, but the wonderful harmonization, vocals and visuals of our girls make it complete.

I keep on seeing comments saying how this song and is boring, and how SM needs to focus on making catchy songs, and I really disagree. These catchy songs you're talking about I'd assume are like Fantastic Baby, Gee and so on, and I really don't think it would be a good idea to stick with that concept for every song. It's generic, and I prefer versatility in music by far. I see many boy groups pull off the calm/creepy concept, and I was really happy to see that Red Velvet did something in that direction. I'm starting to get tired of girl groups doing the exact same concept (sexy, but cute), I'm craving something new. And don't call this song cheap for being a calm R&B type of song.

The fact that people are forgetting is that when this originally came out in 2015, girl groups in Korea weren’t doing this type of concept AT ALL. The fact that Red Velvet was bold enough to showcase this type of versatility while they were still considered “rookies”? Let alone even a year old? The K-Pop world was probably shook by this group.
i kinda forgot that dark concept started around 2018 and back in 2015 were brighter. they pulled this off very well and i will never forget how brave they are for agreeing to do this while being a rookie

as a musician myself, this is why I love Red Velvet, not just simply because of the visuals, but most importantly also the diverse, unique, experimental music artistry. they're just different from all other groups. I particularly really admire their 'velvet' side (usually much more experimental & artistic, than just simply following the 'mainstream' trends/hype like all other groups), which in today's music world, it's only Red Velvet that I know that performs music genre/style like this. I hope people could appreciate this more.
Not to put other group intended but I think CLC also have this kind of music that have a slower type of songs, sadly they are not successful as RV who also have two sides of music. Hopefully people would enjoy this kind of genre!

When it comes to rnb, red velvet understood the assignments 100%. Like ngl there are great rnb kpop groups but red velvet they are untouchable when it comes to rnb. Their vocals and instruments just blends so well together like broooooooooooo. And especially wendy’s voice is more built for western/rnb style, just makes all their songs 100x better. Like the queen of RnB goes to RED VELVET.

The only KPOP who APPLIED and print RnB in their named after is RV. most kpop todays are into EDM, Pop, HipHop so called girl crush. RV is a RnB kpop group inspired that's why them are more of RnB and pOp than Girlcrush EDM noise music.

Regarding the apology, she apologized privately at a fanmeeting. She wanted to speak up about the issue but SM didn't allow her to do so.

someone told me once that Red Velvet was debuting as a dual concept artist. "Red" was going to be their bubbly poppy side a la Happiness or Dumb Dumb, while "Velvet" was going to be the more mature side like this, Be Natural or even Bad Boy. But as I look at their more recent songs, I think they blended the two concepts into one and while I appreciate the smooth transition and growth, I personally LOVED the "Velvet" concepts and hope they get to come back with this look/sound as an A-side in the future.
They used to divide the two pretty heavily into different albums but now they always have 'velvet' and 'red' songs on their albums. There are still 'velvet' songs on each album though - celebrate, hello sunset, milky way, and eyes locked hands locked are some key recent songs I think of. The Queendom album was super r&b-influenced but most songs were still quite upbeat and poppy too.

@daewangnim the title track is still a mix between red and velvet but they did offer us some velvet songs in their 3rd studio album (underwater, iced coffee, wiesya, wings and scenery)

Seriously Red Velvet pull off mature R&B songs and concepts so impeccably, they were like born for this type of style! I could imagine this song would do so well on the current western charts if it was really promoted, this whole song and Mv is grammy worthy.

I think Red Velvet is really going to be a group with two concepts. I've read this a long time ago, someone said that "Red" represents something more classy and sexy, and that "Velvet" represents cuteness and innocence. That explain's why they are having two concepts for this comeback: "Automatic", something more classy and "Ice Creamed Cake", something more cute. It also explains the transition we had from "Happiness" to "Be Natural".
If it's really like this then wow, it's a really good idea SM, i applaud you on this one.
