      I am SUPER stoked for this. Being a former musician myself, coming from a long line of musicians, meeting hundreds of infamous musicians, I have always had a deep appreciation, and respect, for the backbone of the band,..the percussionist. They hold the power, the beat, the heart. Phil Collins is a LEGEND. I have tried to play some of his beats, and some are difficult. No doubt. "In The Air Tonight" is one of THE first pieces I learned and it took me months. He is a consummate professional and a unbelieveable musician. THANK YOU, PHIL. Your music raised me (I'm in my late 40's), and it has also helped raise my adult kids. You are a true legend and we love you.

      @2009captainpaul День назад

      I would bet Phil would be very humbled by your heartfelt comment Mr Sklar. You too are a legend, incredible muso and gentleman. You are at the top two of my favourite bass players on the planet, sadly one of those is no longer with us (Mike Porcaro), so that would place you at the very top of my list. I was lucky to see my number one band Toto in October 2002 at Jahrhunderthalle - Frankfurt - Germany on their 25th Anniversary / Through The Looking Glass World Tour and saw the band with it's original lineup, including Mike Porcaro. They surely did not disappoint. I then saw them again in Manchester UK some months later (February 2003) where they also didn't disappoint. I was even more Lucky to see Toto again in my home city of Perth Western Australia In March 2008 at Metro City. Crap venue but the band was amazing as usual, even better as I was standing at the foot of the stage looking up at Tony Spinner and Luke. To make it even better Leland was playing bass with the band and absolutely smashed it out the of the park. In some ways I found Leland's silky smooth runs and solid playing may have lifted the band somewhat. Anyway, I'm rambling. Leland, just like Phil, you are both incredible legends and the music world has been a better place for both of you in it.

    I've met Phil twice and each time he was amazing, kind, friendly and actually interested and engaged in our conversation. 1st time was in 1983 in Chiddingfold (Surrey) during the Easter holidays. We were visiting Family that lived in Fisher Lane and I used to go and explore. The farm down the road was a hive of activity, so I went to have a look and ended up have a kick about with some blokes outside the impressive farmhouse...I'd never heard of Genesis or Phil as I was only 10 but I found out later that one of the blokes that I was talking to about football ... Actually about spurs, and how my dad loved them but I supported Liverpool .....this was Phil....😂 The next time was VIP tickets at Knebworth for the We can't dance tour (by now I was a huge fan) I met the whole band and told Phil I played football with him back in 1983 at the Farm and he actually remembered me ❤❤❤ Wonderfully funny and kind man, to be honest the whole group were !

  • @Stevedrums741
    @Stevedrums741 3 дня назад +44

    To my ear and heart there is no one who has so profoundly affected how I approach the drums and how to play the drums. "Criminally underrated" doesn't begin to define the career as a totality that Phil has had. He not only came along at the right time, but he was able to create his own time. The variety and scope of his accomplishments, projects, innovations and success couldn't be touched - let alone equaled in today's world. The development of not just his drumming ability, but his vocal and producing ability. He is the greatest all around musician I have ever heard. His influence and variety are endless. His talent profound. I've never wanted to meet any of my musical heroes. Phil is the rare exception. Genesis is pound for pound my favorite band. Phil is pound for pound my favorite drummer. This honestly brought tears to my eyes.

And then to step into the singer role shortly after, and to follow that up by going solo and literally ruling the 80s charts. Icon. Legend. Drummer.

I saw Genesis once in Melbourne Australia, and Phil Collins also once in Melbourne. Saw Phil Collins again in Perth Western Australia. As a television cameraman since the mid 1980's, a journo and I went to Perth Arena to the sound check to shoot some vision for the news and I had the huge honour to do a quick interview with Phil (circa 1990 I think it was). He was lovely and extremely down to earth (unlike some other "stars' I've met and interviewed). As soon as he knew I played drums he told his minders to leave us alone as we were chatting about drums. What a guy, what a drummer, what an all-round legend.

    This man is my absolute favorite singer, drummer, or just musician out of everyone. I have listened closely to many of his recorded vocal deliveries, both live and records, and I believe he has the natural ability to feel what he sings like no other. His drumming is so musical, just listen to "euthanasia waltz" by brandx or some of his other genesis work. Cannot wait to see this interview

    Being 57, I've been lucky enough to see Phil with Genesis several times, and his solo tour a few times, and even play drums for Robert Plant on HIS 1st solo tour.
    Phil was a huge inspiration and influence on my playing...but I COULD NOT do the last Genesis tour.

    His image and the musical direction of his solo career might have distracted people from fully appreciating the phenomenal drummer he’s always been, but there’s no denying he deserves to be up there in the major league-I’d say absolute top five. A once-in-a-lifetime talent.

    I cannot contain my excitement for when this video releases. Phil Collins was one of the first few artists I heard when I was little, it was the song ‘You’ll Be In My Heart’ from the Tarzan soundtrack. It wasn’t until I heard ‘In The Air Tonight’ that I fell in love with Phil. There is too much detail to explain on why I believe Phil Collins is the best drummer of the 20th and 21st century, but I will say this. Phil’s signature style of drumming is powerful and it isn’t just plain simple, you would have to take probably 10+ years if you want to be as great as Phil Collins. Like I said before, I can’t wait to see this and I will be one of the first people to click on the video when it comes out. Much love ❤️ 🥁

    I cannot wait for this. I’m a huge Phil Collins fan and I love his work with Genesis as well. He’s a major influence on me for a long time. Going back to when I was kid aged 6 listening to the Tarzan soundtrack (and playing the video game) and then going from there to face value and then his Genesis work and I was hooked.
    I’ve seen him twice with Genesis and it was an absolute privilege.
    First on the 2007 Reunion tour at Twickenham and then the second from last night of the Last Domino tour at the O2 Arena in 2022 - both nights were magical but specifically that second from last night because it was emotional knowing that he probably will never play again or tour again.

    This man is one of the all-time elite prog rock drummers, right up there with guys like Bruford or Peart. I think most people just aren't aware of how good he was because they're only familiar with some of his 80's pop stuff, where he had toned it down a lot just because of the style of music.
    Thanks for making this documentary, Drumeo!
