Ruby saying she feels like she is not enough and the blacksmith asking how to measure enough is such a beautiful exchange to me. Everyone has moments of doubt, imposter syndrome and feeling like you are not enough. Just asking how to even measure enough highlights that its all in our own head. We don't need to hold ourselves to impossible standards and constantly compare ourselves to others
I like how direct it is as an answer to Ruby's pain right now! The blacksmith asks her how she'd measure 'enough' and the next thing she says is 'mom'. She's simultaneously surprised by her mom's weapon being there, and is answering the question. The only person she can think of as 'enough' is her mom - who she has put on a pedestal to an extent that Ruby could never hope to be anything like her. Or at least she believes so right now!
Ruby's mom didn't necessarily travel to the Ever After like Ruby and the crew did. Her weapon is there along with a lot of other weapons, representing different people.
Back in Episode 4: Blake: "But she [Alyx] learned her lesson in the end, right?" Cat: "Oh, I'd certainly say so." This freakin cat and these freakin writers. So this episode suffered the most this volume from a cut in budget, with them having to get rid of an entire episode. And you can definitely tell. There's moments you can see where they really just had to kind of rush to get where they needed but I'd still say they did a decent job at still conveying the message and feel of things. It's still something worth acknowledging. One of the biggest highlights this episode was once again Lindsey and Robbie's incredible performances. I'd even throw Barb in there because the way she sounds so scared and on the verge of tears when they find Ruby's little statue thing breaks my heart in half. I also just appreciate the way that NeoCat moves. The animation there is so sassy and fun. And lastly we finally get an actual glimpse of Summer and are reunited with our Blacksmith friend. The effects on her voice are really cool. Also, I just really love that Summer's weapon was an axe. That's just dope. Since we only have one week to go here on RUclips for your RWBY reactions, I thought now would be a good time to ask if ya'll plan to do Ice Queendom or RWBYxJL reactions? While not really necessary to the main series I think they're just a fun watch (though I know some people will disagree with me on that). Just something nice to fill the void a bit longer before you're stuck in hiatus hell with the rest of us. Completely up to you of course but I thought I'd throw my recommendation out there again.
An interview revealed that had already animated the first half of the Volume when they were informed that they wouldn't get the additional budget they were expecting, so had to cut about 40 minutes of content, and they weren't going to cut anything from episode 6, or what became episode 10, so they cut the intended final episode, which they already had in animatic form (that you might be able to find online, as they released it after finding out they were getting shut down), including all recorded dialogue, as well as parts of this episode and the hints that it was the Cat that gave Neo the information she needed to break Ruby, like who Leonardo Lionheart and Clover Ebi were, as Neo never met them.
Neo never met them, but likely knew of them and heard about what happened, notice how when Ruby is fighting the duplicates, Clover does nothing and Leo just shoots fireballs, the only people who actually get fully involved are people Neo has personally watched fight, except maybe Ozpin, it looks like she might have she just had him wield his cane the same way Torchwick did, rather than his usual fencing style, since she has only maybe seen Oscar fight a little bit. So it does still work well enough as is. i've seen a bit of the cut stuff, like a bit more of their return, but honestly, if/when they get a season 10, i hope they spend some time, maybe 2 or 3 episodes showing us what happened while they were gone, or the few days before they return, because if a death is non-permanent then the most interesting thing you are left with is how characters react to it and develop during the time another character is believed dead, similar to how we see that even though Penny came back, her death had a profound effect on Ruby, still not sure how i feel about her being killed off a second time though tbh
There are so many small things and details that you notice only on rewatch or if you pay enough attention - one of my favourite was in this episode: When Ruby is choosing the new "her" she does it while looking at the weapons of other people. Back in V1 she did say that she is a huge weapon dork, constantly curious about other people's weapon of choice.
i kinda wish they played into that more, have her tinkering with her teams weapons or have an ongoing thing where she keeps teasingly offering to improve their designs, being the one who carries around little maintenance tools in the field and stuff like that, they never really do much with her being a passionate and talented weapons engineer, apart from two lines in V1, and like one small detail i remember in V2.
@@ImpeccableZentertainment true, but personal design choices are one thing, i meant more inefficiencies and flaws, and only suggest larger improvements, and only do them with permission, like when they requested specific upgrades from the Atlas engineers, besides, the only one that really needs a big design change is Myrtenaster
I like to share that this episode really leaves you being speechless on the times when Ruby comes on scene. As we just stay quiet and listen to witness what Ruby is saying and facing. So with all said, we gotten some news on RWBY that the VA of Team RWBY say that we might get some update news from them or Viz Media in some way. Fingers crossed it be good or great news for V10 to be in production and have a teaser trailer for our eyes to watch
interesting, I have just accepted that volume 10 will never be made BECAUSE after almost two years we have not heard a whisper, not even voice work, which needs to be done before animation, having been done. But if a VA is saying things are happening, then maybe it will still happen. I have also accepted that Winds of Winter will never be published, oh well.
@ that seems understandable friend, as animation does take lot of time out there to make it polished or capable for flowing. Also we got to remember within the animation department it be time consuming. Just like Glitch Protection’s Murder Drones series. As that series takes months or even year to get together.
A lot of discussion at the time over if WBY were reacting appropriately to what Ruby did. Surprise, surprise, I’m broadly okay with how calm they all seem. Right now they don’t equate death and ascension in the way Jaune does. The only thing that bothers me personally is Yang’s BEAMING smile when they’re all hugging Jaune.
From what I understand, there was supposed to be another episode in between this one and the last one where WBY and Jaune dealt with the immediate fallout of what happened to Ruby, but they had to cut it.
Summer Rose wielding an axe is likely an allusion to the hunter who kills the big bad wolf, the Hero of the tale "Little Red Riding Hood", just as she is Ruby's hero, held up on a pedestal.
Not sure if you guys remember but when we first saw the Blacksmith earlier in the season the axe weapon was quite prominently displayed in the background, so there was a big hint right there it was Summers weapon. You could clearly see it looks different to other weapons from the Ever After as it has gun parts in the design, so it's definitely a Remnant weapon. Also, first time we ever hear Summer speak.
If you're interested there's RWBY and The Justice League, they're both split into two movies the first one gives some glimpses from season 7 while the second movie gives little sneak peaks of what to expect of volume 10 if it every happens, there's also RWBY Beyond that also gives glimpses of volume 10 you could watch as well

It just occurred to me that when Ruby is being offered the choice of who she could be all the options are represented by weapons, because even feeling this broken her strongest desire is still to fight to save the world.
@@heroicbobin this episode the cat notices ruby in the tree and said that she would serve them better than neo because deep down Ruby still wants to go home and be the hero.
The Ever After is an interesting concept for how the tree affects the inhabitants. Once they fulfill their supposed purpose they ascend and gain a new one until that is fulfilled and on and on it goes. In Ruby's mind she is so full of doubt and indecisiveness that her mind is scrambled and going in all sorts of directions. Just like ruby, I was also dealing with my own problems, and hearing the blacksmith talk to ruby felt like she was also talking to me, and I think that first started my path to heal and work on myself. Whenever I feel like I'm not making progress or go back to old habits, I would remember what weiss said about even the greatest people have also failed but are still considered great

Gosh, it has to be so hard for poor Jaune: I mean, he failed to protect Pyrrha and lost her, he failed to protect Oscar when he got kidnapped by the Hound, he failed to protect Penny and had to finish her, he failed to save the Paper Pleasers, he failed to save Alix, he failed to save Ruby from committing suicide. It has to be so hard when you fail over and over again and you have to live with that…you have to live with that burden for the rest of your life and learning to cope with it…it’s accepting it and try to change for the better. Seeing Jaune like that made me feel sorry for him, but Ruby on the other hand, seeing her doubt herself and seeing that’s she’s not sure what will become of her it’s so heartbreaking for me. Be prepared for the great finale and make sure to listen to the soundtrack, watch also the bonus ending animatic (that’s episode 11), Volume 9 Beyond and the movies of RWBY x Justice League Part 1 and Part 2. Feel it worth noting that between this, the previous, and the last ep there's about.... a whole other chapter's worth that got entirely cut, for entirely behind-the-scenes factors (likely budget). So if anything feels particularly a bit too fast that's... probably part of why.
I honestly can’t wait to see your reaction to the last episode here, episode 10 is just so so good. ❤ Just keep on pushing through. It really is a masterpiece.
I still love the irony of Jaune’s guilt over Penny, yet NONE of them have ever mentioned her to him. What a terribly missed conversation about a grand character
