  • In this sport fishing documentary we look back at 1885 when the first tarpon ever taken on a rod and reel was caught near Punta Rassa, Florida - a fishing feat that revolutionized sport fishing and lured hundreds of eager anglers to Southwest Florida in search of the "silver king." Tarpon reigned supreme, but other sports species abounded. A century later, anglers and commercial fishermen were battling over the dwindling bounty of the Gulf.
The sunshine state has a rich and colorful history. For hundreds of years the state has attracted dreamers, opportunists, inventors and fortune-seekers. WGCU's Untold Stories aims to preserve the history of Southwest Florida communities.

Humans destroys all good things eventually! Look at Florida now the fisheries are shitty now up and down the Gulf coast between being over fished and constant red tides it will never be the same.

Nwo it’s the locals that get punished but the tourist can come here and load up their charter boats with Snook and take them home to wherever they go while a local gets fined just for one and can’t even fish without a license!

Take only what you can eat from the ocean is my philo. Starting to think sport fishing is a pretty crappy thing to do to the fish and the population. Just my 2.
