  • This is the last level of Thexder and there isn't much to it, If you don't feel like destroying everything you can just remove the wall blocking the path and finish. If you're low on energy there is plenty to stock up on. Upon completing the level there is no end scene the game will just start over at level 02.

    I won this game after 23 years but not as efficiently as you Thexder masters did it. Well done!

    I just beat the DOS version of Thexder for the first time, and it was a no shield run. I used your videos whenever I got seriously stuck. Thank you for sharing this run.

    I never got past level 4, and didn't like having to start all over every time. I was 5 years old when I played this last. I credit this game for introducing me to Moonlight Sonata. Oh the memories.

      Yes!!! Me too! I was in Middle School and had this on my Tandy 1000 computer and it was also first time I was introduced to Moonlight Sonata!!! Great memories indeed. Such a beautiful song :-)

      Kaypro 8088 IBM clone, I was in early grade school at the time. Same on Moonlight Sonata. My father is an engineer so we always had drafting gear and a computer around the house. Initially a Tandy that he upgraded from 16k to 64k or RAM (looking back laughing).

      Yup. Tandy 1000 also. Sometimes I just loaded the intro to hear moonlight sonata.. of course I had no idea about the song. I was just fascinated by it
      Not 7ntil years and years later did I put the two together

    This is on my list of games I will probably never beat. I got it when it first came out, and I finally got to level 4 (just once) maybe 2 years ago. As a kid, I tried renaming the files of the different levels so I could at least see the rest of the game, but it does something weird with level 16 so it didn't look right. I didn't think anybody could EVER beat this game.

    • @LordPrometheous
      @LordPrometheous 10 лет назад

      No problem, man. I played the game originally on a Tandy 1000EX running DOS, so that may be why the level 16 didn't have the right textures loaded. I guess back then it would've been a sprite map or something, but it had lots of solid colors, no "brick" texture. If you get a chance, let me know how the file renaming works out for you. Thanks for putting out this video; if it weren't for RUclips, I 'd probably never have seen what the final level was supposed to look like.

    • @LordPrometheous
      @LordPrometheous 10 лет назад

      That's cool; I'm glad the "hack" mostly worked out for you. I believe some of the files are for normal PC graphics cards, and others were specifically for the Tandy graphics; just like the the 3-voice music for the Tandys. Can you tell me, is the overall strategy for this difficult game just avoiding enemies wherever possible? I've always been the type of person to take on every enemy head on, never backing down. I'm guessing that may be why I've always sucked at Thexder.

      Thexder is quite easy to beat (I used to do that even without the shield). Some enemies give you energy or energy max (or both). The secret is to kill only these enemies to save energy (that's spent when shooting). Other enemies should be destroyed only to clear your path.
      There's a keyword about beating Thexder: ECONOMY.

    @Autisma The laser in the Apple IIGS version (and Amiga I think) can hit multiple enemies simultaneously while you're in stand up mode. Somehow the difficulty is just as hard though, but I love ultra difficult games, it's kind of my thing. Awesome run-through by the way. I was never able to beat this game as a kid, it wasnt until my adult years I finally "beat it". I have some videos of the game as well. Check em out if you get the chance. Always great to see fellow Thexder fans.

    I remember the first time I beat this game, I was so disappointed that there was no ending, it just loops. I guess technically that makes it more of an arcade game where high-score is the only goal. I noticed in your version of the game the laser works completely different than the Apple IIGS version I grew up on.

  • @Autisma
    @Autisma  14 лет назад

    @BrianPicchi Yeah I was disapointed that there isn't a difficult boss or ending at least Firehawk has an ending. I've only ever played the Tandy/DOS one and the NES one. The laser in the NES just shoots out little balls and they can miss which makes playing the NES one harder. How does the laser work in the Apple IIGS?

      @neb6 Thanks for the note. 13 years later, and I'm now looking for it. Looks like it was called Thexder Neo. Also, I've noticed the original game was just released on the Switch a few months ago (Oct 2023) -- but after watching videos, either the emulator is off, or perhaps the game is not fully emulated and is re-programmed, or the EGA version differs from the Tandy version I was used to playing on my Tandy 1000. Unfortunately, this means I'll likely not pick it up. It was a great game.

    Great game. Did you know the aiming laser is timed to all objects on the screen? Every object is made of 4 blocks, and each block onscreen is aimed at in sequence, one every frame. So you can time your shot to not shoot when it's aiming at the wrong thing, to only fire when it can actually hit what you want.

    Glad they incorporated Transforming into the game, but should have been more useful.

  • @JDoucette
    @JDoucette 14 лет назад

    @Autisma Well judging by this game, it appears you have no problems maintaining energy! Also for shooting all those blocks, I find it's good to go into ship mode and fly straight at them, to shoot down a whole column. You can do this once you have a little space. I beat this game a long time ago, decades after I first played it thinking it was impossible to at the time.

    Yeah the remake came out a few months ago for both PSP and PS3. It's a pretty good remake has enhanced graphics, music and sound but only 10 levels instead of 16 but the last level has a boss unique to the remake. The PS3 version also comes with the MSX Thexder and Achievements. On the whole the remakes are way easier then the original since you can fly through enemies there is little point in actually stopping to kill them making the game far too easy.

    No I didn't know it worked exactly like that thanks for the insight even still I'm just lazy and would rather just hold the fire button down then waiting for it to hit the right things even though it costs 2 energy. If I need accuracy that's what jet mode is for.

  • @Autisma

    I was mainly just using robot mode to clear out the sides since I was just trying to destroy every piece of wall sections that your laser can take out. I beat it a couple of decades ago on one of my 1st PC's a Tandy 1000 took me ages to beat it then.

    I found an invincibility quirk on the Tandy Color Computer 3, but the game gets stuck on an endless loop if you use it too much.

    • @Autisma
      @Autisma  Год назад

      I have an alternative file to run the game which gives invincibility but only works on the EGA version and not Tandy. Seems to work just fine after level 16
