My current GSD, a show line and a rescue, is usually pretty quiet. However, she does have different barks for different service people: a triple yip for the gardener, a staccato for the pool guy, and a five note for the Amazon truck. I got her because I'm hearing impaired, and without any training she just figured out how to let me know exactly who's here! Amazing dogs.
I like them too, but I'd have to disagree about the "extremely smart" part. Most of them are level down in the intelligence category compared to a Lab. In my experience anyway.
@@doublestrokerollnah labs are def dumber lol. Goldens are rated higher in intelligence, across commands, obedience trials, problem solving. Labs are known to be more aloof, a bit more stubborn, but more Velcro, more eager to please (which can make them seem smarter)
In 2007 I came across a Cane Corso that was living in a bad home. She was 1yr when I got and i had never heard of Cane Corso before. She became the best dog i have ever had, with work almost all her "bad habits" we got better. She was so loving and so good with any kids she came across. Very family protective. Unfortunately she died unexpectedly in 2015. For me Cane Corso is the bread of dog that fits me and my life.
We recently got a rescue labrador x german shepherd mix, and he is such a perfect all-rounder. So smart and keen to learn, the sweetest temperament, he has slight guarding instincts, as well as the fun retriever instincts, and he's fairly quiet!
I’ve got one too. She’s very protective and can be reactive to other dogs (almost always other “guard” type dogs) but she’s really just a big goofball. Wiggles her entire body when she’s happy!
I grew up with a German Shepherd who belonged to a neighbor. He carried a huge rock around and kept an eye on us kids. I remember him getting between us and an aggressive doberman. Right now we have a stray who is at least part red healer and she's amazing. She was a lot of work when we took her in because she was found by a friend on a busy road and she had a collar but no id. We never found he family and she literally screamed when I tried to take her to the shelter so I couldn't do it. We had a great trainer who helped us understand her anxiety and now she's so loving and so loyal and soooo smart.
There’s another guy I love to watch named Stonie Dennis whose fav dogs are labs. He drills down about the difference between English line labs and field line labs so he’s the guy IMO to get some great info on which kind is best for you and your family.
We’ve had male Kerry Blue Terriers and Airedale Terriers. Happened into a female Standard Poodle. She is intelligent, eager to please, and not only picks up commands quickly but obeys them. The terriers are MUCH more stubborn, but still great companions.
We want a hunting dog. Desperately want a lab specifically, but husband has allergies. So we’re thinking our next dog will be a standard poodle. Glad to hear a good review about them because I’ve not been around them before.
I’ve owned 4 German Shepherds, all were wonderful companions and the best protection dogs for families. The 4 worst days of my life were when I had to say goodbye to each of them, I just wish they lived longer.
Same here, but we're only on our second. When we had to put our first one down due to cancer (which she fought successfully for three years), it was like the ending of Ol' Yeller. Not a dry eye in the house for days.
It's a bit late now but have you dog owners ever used Phenbendazole to treat cancer? It's efficacy was discovered accidentally by vets using it to treat worms. Works on humans too.
❤❤❤ Boxers ❤❤❤ Great companion, eager to please, goofy laugh-a-day, family friendly, playful, guard dog when needed, low grooming needs ... dearest friend.
When living in Boston we adopted a Mountain Cur from Arkansas. She’s 8 years old now and the most amazing breed I’ve ever seen- watched the kids, sleeps at the foot of the bed and keeps the bed warm, and is smart enough to understand subtle body language. She’s 45 lbs and packs a punch herding other dogs three times her size. It’s the ideal American dog.
I got a good laugh listening to him complain about the barking and grooming of a GSD. Especially the barking. The GSD's I've known may bark frequently during the day, but at least they sleep at night. Anyway, I can't image not having a Pyr or three.
@@Trisbreya Be sure you know what you are getting into and have the right space for it. They *can* be trained to be city dogs, but it's not easy, and requires being able to give them enough physical and mental stimulation during the day that they do not become nocturnal. Living in a rural area, ours are outside barking all night. That is not a joke or exaggeration. Great Pyrenees bark more than any other LGD breed, and LGDs generally are known for barking excessively. If you can't sleep through that, you will not sleep. The first Pyrenees we met was a free ranging neighbors farm dog. After she decided she liked us, would come to our house to bark in the middle of the night. We quickly fell in love with Great Pyrenees, and my wife bought a lifetime supply of earplugs. Also be aware that a dog mixed with a non-LGD mix is far less likely to become a successful LGD - especially for poultry. With a pyrenees / husky mix from a rescue, access to the chicken yard has been cut off... He won't break in, but he likes squeaky - or squawky - toys. Great dog, but he is not a Pyrenees. In fact, we have no squeaky toys, because our purebred LGDs don't play with them, and while the dogs normally get along fantastically, if the mix gets a hold of a squeaky toy, the LGDs will fight to take it from him, then guard it from him. And of course, remember they are bred to guard resources, so be prepared to manage that - and to provide proper socialization to avoid improper aggression. We've had fosters catch us off guard with resource guarding, and 100# dog fights are not fun. A lifelong farm dog caught me out on a walk in town - she had never seen a bicycle, and I had dropped my awareness and didn't see it coming. She instinctively knew to protect the defenseless child from his bicycle and did a great job. Poor kid was unharmed, but is probably traumatized for life. Don't get me wrong - I love living and working with Great Pyrenees and pure LGD mixes (we've also adopted a Pyr/Akbash mix). Our mix fosters are great dogs, but reinforce that I only ever want pure LGD mixes for myself (the Husky mix is very much my wife's dog lol). But we've seen enough dogs from homes who did not know what they were getting into that we want folks make sure they are prepared.
I rescued a wirehaired pointer, and although I wouldn't have picked that particular breed of dog, I'm so glad our paths crossed. She's beautiful, loving, loyal, and a great family dog. Very obedient and easy to train. No one ever talks about this breed and I don't know why, as a companion dog that's going to get you moving the wirehaired pointer is a fantastic choice. Though you do have to watch their prey drive and get the loudest falconry bells possible on their collars to warn potential prey, but aside from that... a perfect dog, one of the best breeds I've owned.
Will 😍 my top favorite breeds are Mastiffs and Shepherds ... my female Shepherd was a German working line cross with a North American line Shepherd and she was perfect , would have given her life for mine , did a bit of tracking , protection and it was innate in her but would allow a child she didn't know to play with her ... after she passed I just couldn't replace her 💯❣
Recently rescued 2 pups, one is a Shepherd Mix (guess is Shepherd, Mal & Lab). Brilliant, loves to serve, just the right level of energy & naturally protective.
I love my Aussie she is great and definitely want another one, but the Labrador I agree is the best breed. Had one for 17 years and was just so amazing.
YES, my mini Australian Shepherd ( Blaze) is 3 years old now. Is the best dog I have ever owned 😊❤😊 my wife has him in Agility training each week, not so much to compete but to use his brain. He is the owner of my 1989 Spartan Gladiator pumper fire engine He rides on the engine cover between me and my wife. He has never never had a problem with him in parades or public evens. Small kids love petting him. He is great with kids. We TRAIN him to be gentle with kids.
We always have pit-lab mixes and they are so goofy, joyful and affectionate, and very calm and obedient once they are out of the puppy stage. Right now we also have a Corgi-red heeler mix and he is the most beautiful dog, but he is borderline psychotic and his herding behavior is a dominant trait. We've made progress with him but he's already 7-8 years old.
Our last dog was a lab and I also was a lab girl through and through. After my lab passed, I took a chance and adopted a puppy from the shelter. It turned out to be a mix of Treeing Walker Coonhound and GSD, neither of which I have personally owned. Well I feel like ai hit the dog lottery because he is my soul dog! Loving, gentle, smart, athletic and medium energy. And because of the mix, the grooming is not bad! He is the perfect compliment to our family. ❤
We adopted a 9 year old, grossly overweight English Lab/Mastiff mix (who didn't stay overweight for long once we adopted him) in 2016. It was like having the best of both breeds (props to his former owners, because his manners were impeccable). He was very chill (slept through hurricanes), loved everyone and everything, yet was protective when he sensed potential danger. Adored kids, and was aware of his size, so knew that he had to temper his exuberance around them. The only thing he couldn't control was his tail (which could easily become a lethal weapon). Some lines of Labs are missing the signal that tells them they're full (I don't know if there's a test for this yet), so it's something to be aware of. We had to euthanise him in 2020 because his spine had started deteriorating and wouldn't support his back legs.
We had wolfhounds for many years who also had lethal whipping tails so I would hold their tails and taught them to sit wherever someone approached me,they are very friendly dogs,,problem solved!
@doffchitty1875 I love wolfhounds! Our Mastador had also been taught to sit on greeting people (which helped enormously). He would even go up to strollers and sit quietly for the child to pet him.
I have a Cane Corso at this time. I have had German Shepherds, a Rottweiler , a Labrador Retriever and other dogs. I loved them all. But I will always pick a Cane Corso as a first choice. They are loving and protective. I take him out in public to keep him socialized. He loves going for rides in my pick up truck. At 69 yrs. old, having a Cane Corso and a Glock 19 by my side is a comfort. Looking forward to Spring and going kayaking for the first time in our lives. 🙂🖖
I've had quite a lot of dogs. My favourites were all labs (2 purebred) and lab x. In particular, lab x staffy, and lab x beagle, 2 female dogs that have now unfortunately passed away but they were perfect, just perfect dogs IMO
After getting our first GSD for our son, we determined we would never again live without one unless we were in a nursing home. After our son's dog died of cancer, we got a beautiful long haired West German showline male for us as an "empty nest dog" when he went to college. Our boy has already saved us from a home invasion and is every bit as much a member of the family as any of our human members. My only advice to prospective GSD owners is that they require every bit as much attention and effort as a human child, but the results are almost as rewarding.
I've never heard of the first one. My favorite dogs have been Lab crosses. They are so friendly, easy to train, not barky and so in tune with their humans.
I have a Golden Retriever, and yes, labs are an amazing breed. The only problem with the GR is the shedding. I don't know if the short hair Lab has the same issue?
I agree. I have had several Labs and have loved 🥰 them all. My first was a Lab/Dob mix. Then I had purebred English Labs. My last was a Lab/German Shepherd/Akita mix. Everyone was scared of him, but he was such a baby. Labs are all around great dogs!
I got a Lab in August. She was 5 months at the time. Its my first non-small dog. Its been an adjustment. But, I do love her. Been good for my health and I now walk her 4 times a day. She still is a bit mouthy, though and I am working on that.
I absolutely adore my rough collies. They are so smart and amazing with young children. A perk is their stunning coat, but their intelligence and agility is the best 🥰🥰
It really comes down to personal preferences. I want my dogs to be fluffy, robust and cute enough to not scare people. My favorite breeds are sledge dogs, closely followed by Akita and Shiba Inu. I own two Samoyeds, they are a perfect mixture of cuddly toy and rough country boy with a pinch of wolflike behaviour. My dream dog is an Alaskan Malamute (I know a few, they are just perfect), but they might be too heavy for me to safely handle on the leash, especially while riding a bike.
We love mastín del Pirineo, the spanish version with dark spots. Unfortunately it is not possible in town apartament. I am getting a German shepard baby girl next week.
Lab owner, working line and he loves his work and I love him. Training every day, not on shoots but to keep him mentally stimulated. But in my humble opinion a home is not a home without a Beagle or two.
my top 3 breeds personally are at number 3: german shorthaired pointers which i have 2 littermates also mixed with lab, bully and australian shepherd, number 2: german shepherd. my very first dog at the age of 9 was a german shepherd most likely belgian malinois mix and if i wouldve gotten her just now 20 years later she wouldve been so fantastic to train myself, and i currently own a german shepherd dutch shepherd mix who is 10 months old, and my number 1 is labrador retriever for the exact same reasons as you Will. so loving, affectionate, easy to please and train, and great with people.
What about the Airedale? One breed youve never really covered in your vids- King of the terriers and my absolue favourite. Beautiful temprement, total clowns, gentle and loving, bone headed but intelligent, and if they sense a threat to the family the inner jack russel takes the wheel and all bets are off. 25kg exorcet with mastiff sized teeth thanks to that long jaw and that lightning fast flutter bite..... The poilce were convinced our not so friendly night time 'guest' had been set apon but a small pack of dogs, not just our goofball 2yr old Airedale. My hero! Given their fabulous nature capability as a gardian (to which I can personally attest) and their illustrious heritage. I'm surprised youve never really covered them..,. Keep up the work with the great vids 😁
I’ve grown up the son of farmers, had and been raised with so many working breeds. Since having my own family I’ve had other breeds also - nothing quite compares to a Labrador. I believe they’re less dog, more angel. They’re perfect
I’d love to have a German Shepherd Dog in coloring and temperament . . . in the size of an Australian Cattle Dog. Pint sized, generally calm, on demand badassery.
I couldn’t agree with you more. I currently have a GSD and Lab and I adore them. I’ve never had a mastiff breed, but the points you made about them resonate with me. Might have to get one at some point. Subscribed.
I’ve had several German shepherds. I love them so much.. but there are health issues and they didn’t live too long. I have rough collies, super loving dogs a lot of grooming, but worth it. And they have long life span.
We have a Norfolk Terrier, and while he's a bit moody at times, he's incredibly loving, gentle and friendly with everybody, and eager to please. He's had some pancreatitis issues, so he can't get treats, but that doesn't seem to phase him. For such a small dog, he loves long walks and wants to say hello to everyone. As for training, it's been tough. He's smart and responds well to direction when he knows he can expect a food treat, but with the pancreatitis it's been a bit of a struggle.
All dogs are incredible, and I have been lucky to have had different dog breeds my whole life. But Cursinu, my new-found puppy, is one of my favorite dog breeds! She's amazing in all aspects! 🐶💕🐾 Do you have any thoughts or advice on Cursinus, please?
I want a labrador x cane corso mix so bad. I have a black lab (she was a 6month old stray and came up to me when I was leaving the gym) and she’s the greatest dog ever.
I've been around so many mastiff breeds. In fact, I met a breeder of French matstiffs also known as the Dogue De Bordeaux. The family/breeders had 7 of them in their home. I believe the largest one was 175lbs, and not overweight. My husband and I brought our child to their house and they brought them out two at a time. We were very careful with our child around them, but we knew the general temperment of the breed. They were amazing and absolutely loving, friendly and careful around us and our child. I have not met a cane coral (Italian ma stiff or a Neapolitan ma stiff.
Had many, many different breeds that I have trained and engaged in different activities with… agility, dock diving, lure coursing, obedience. I have recently found out about Norfolk Terriers. Man, have I been missing out! Such great little companions! Smart, funny, eager to please, game for anything, great travel companions, great with kids and other dogs and don’t shed! Bonus!
Quick image search , nice looking fella . Terriers are cool , always smiling , smart , gutsy etc . Big bonus good life span, easy to take in car, not too wet from a swim, , smaller droppings etc . Again active dogs, need humans that will keep up and train them , and for likes of Jacks set the rules . My JRs had some Bijon frise , so I suppose increases cuteness to Disney dogs/advert dog level . Bijon are also longed live and incredibly kind and good natured , so take slight edge of my JR . Terroirs need to be trained and socialised with other dogs and have kind owners ( suppose all dogs need kind owners , but imagine Labs and Golden Retrievers can put up with a lot of crap, as desire to please is so strong ) . Other advantage of a small dog is it's not a Tibetan Mastiff that could kill a human double quick to protect is human/pack . Why oh why do some of the lamest humans want the most powerful dogs
Pitties will forever be my favorite breed. Trainable, great with kids, and loving dogs. My buddy trained his bluenose to be a bird dog. Rottweilers are my second favorite because if you have children in the house. They will protect them from you and anyone else. My brother had 2 back to back and both interfered when I or anyone else would play fight with his daughter.
I have had a couple New Zealand Hunterways, border collies, a Neopolitan Mastiff, a Doberman, plus a few more. Our Doby was the gentlest dog, trusted him 100% with our young kids. My current dog is an American Catahoula. Super smart, only second from my Mastiff. Love love dogs except toy dogs. The smallest dog l have had was a rescue; a Tibetain Terrier. He hated my first husband so in saying that Super Smart!!! 😂
A bit biased here on my part but I was surprised not to see Golden Retrievers on your list. My Miss Stella is half golden and half great Pyrenees and 100% wonderful and awesome. She has converted many that were wary, scared, or even not liking dogs to dog fans and even dog owners.
I love shepherds and have a full australian aussie ( not the minis bred for showing)...he's a lot of work but we love it....however, I also have a mexican street dog who is mostly a pittie and she is simply the best...I adore her gentle loyal self.
Hey Will, just wondering if you would ever do a video about the three best small dog breeds? Some of us like having dogs but we don't want large dogs we prefer small dogs. Just a suggestion. I definitely have to say, for small breeds, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is the king of the small breeds. But definitely make sure you get a good breeder who screens for all the health problems.
I enjoyed your take on dogs! I have been training dogs since I was a child and have had many different types, though all were mixed breeds. The absolutely most brilliant dog I've had was Thor, a shepherd wolf mix, It was amazing to watch him solve a problem and how he obeyed commands even by sign language across a parking lot with me inside a store and him watching me from inside my car... He learned everything so very quickly... later, the dog that surprised me most was a beagle akita mix who loved carrying things to me and painting pictures.. He was so much more intelligent than I gave him credit for in the beginning.... Now, I have a shepherd lab mix, looks all Lab except for the color and length of his muzzle, But he is the hardest dog I have ever had to train. He's two years old now and still so hyper, I always thought labs were a calmer breed. He learns reasonably fast but the one thing I have not been successful in doing, is breaking his bad behavior of aggressively though in a friendly way, jumping on people or pulling on the leash when he sees another dog he wants to play with. His intentions are always positive, in that he clearly wants to play or happily greet a visitor, but I cannot keep him from jumping.. He is tall and 85 pounds so that jumping is an issue... Any tips you can impart to me that will help me calm him and get over the beast mode? 😄 I've used all the common ways of breaking the jumping behavior in my past dogs, but this one is a big challenge. Thanks for any ideas.
The best breeds are those waiting to be adopted at your local animal shelter. Where I live, they usually waive the adoption fee if the dog is a year or older.
I second the show line Labrador. We have owned three in the last twenty years and they are amazing. My favorite are senior labs, but raising a puppy with your children really produces an amazing family dog. Our current guy wants nothing but to be with us and sleep in our bed. LOL
I had a large male working breed GSD weighing in at 120lbs., he was a gentle giant! He was the best the dog that I have ever owned. They are a super smart, in fact scary smart dogs. A GSD is like a peice of clay that can be molded into anything at a young age. There is a reason they have been used in some many different arenas. I believe the GSD has saved more human lives than any dog on the planet. They are fearless and will die for their owners in protecting them. Moreover, they are great with kids! Please take Will's advice and procure one from a very reputable breeder. It's critical to get their training and socialization done in the formidable years... bascially, the first two years. I could not take my GSD dog anywhere without people saying he was the most beautiful dog they had ever seen. This is not a lap dog and they require being put to work with lots of activity, training and excercise, so please be prudent about your situation and environment. I would suggest having at least a decent size back yard for them to keep active and happy...no apartments for them to be left by themselves...they need attention and activity. Furthermore, they are one of the funniest dogs you will ever be around...tilting their heads back and forth when you are speaking to them is a trademark of the GSD. Please understand the GSD is a very fast/powerful dog with one of the top three to five hardest bites, per sqaure inch out there. This is one dog that should never be placed in a irresponsbile or unprepared owners hands. Lastly, if you provide your GSD pup with the right: training, socialization, attention, environment, and activity in their formidable years it will be the best dog that you have ever owned!
I agree the cane corso is a fabulous pooch! But so are the presa canario, tosa inu, and boer boel - they are the Ferraris. If you prefer something a little more docile check out dogue de bordeaux
My favorite dog I've ever kept is my Boxer. I had him from 8 weeks to almost 11 years, when I had to have him euthanized due to a massive seizure that we could not get to stop. He was perfectly healthy up until that day. As much as I'd love to get another Boxer, I do feel like I must have a Lab and a Golden Retriever. I think any dog person has to experience these amazing breeds. I wonder how similar they are in behavior and temperment?
My current female Mastiff Tequila💝 ,has tons of energy and play , she's 1 1/2 and still needs at least 2 good walks a day , fetch or playing with other dogs , for an English Mastiff she almost has a tiny bit of Shepherd temperament ..... Lucy ,my first female Mastiff was quite lazy and preferred sleeping , 5 , 10 min was good for her 😂😂
The best dog I ever owned was a German Shepherd we rescued. Took a year for her to stop being scared of her own shadow, but I've never had a smarter, more loyal dog.
No way I grew up with Goldens and later in life I got my first Lab and never looked back. I have four. We has smart Goldens and great personalities but there is something that makes Labs just a bit better in every way:)
I love my Golden Retriever, but finding a healthy Golden from a good breeder is a lot harder than with a Lab, and the fact that they mature slower than labs, and can require significantly more grooming (especially for show lines, working lines are usually less demanding with grooming), I would probably recommend a lab over a Golden to first time owners or families with very small children, but a Golden for everyone else, if they're willing to put in the extra effort!
We had two Labs, a female Chocolate and a Black Male. They are the best dog breed I (speaking just for myself and not my wife, which I'm sure she'd agree) that I have had the pleasure to own and call family! The female developed a uterian condition that shortened her life but our 11 year-old male Lab is stll with us and he's a limping ball of pure love (and attitude!) When Will talked about hips on Labs, please take care of your young Labs (and Shepherds as well) and always remember that their hips are their true weakness so don't make them do things - excessive jumping mainly - that can hurt them later in life! Lessoned learned for me going forward when we eventually bring more Labradors into our lives!
In my life ive had, Labradors, Boxers, Border Collies, German Shepherds, Blue Heelers, Cocker Spaniel, Dachshund, Beagles, Kelpies and Basset Hounds... i love all of these breeds independently for their own special reasons, but out of all of them, I just cant go past the Border Collies for patience, obedience, loyality and gentleness. I know all dogs are different, but my 4 BCs arent crazy, they are rewarded with TV and the aircon, they're all so very gentle towards the Elderly, Babies and Children and they're still my devoted my protectors. I wouldnt be here without them.
Got a black lab. Dude would die for me and hes proven it more than once. Ridiculously smart and has more self control than 90% of people. Didnt even have to train him. From the day i got him its like we have some connection and he just knows what i do and dont want from him. Incredible. Best part....found him on craigslist.
After having Rottweilers, labs, chihuahuas, and others I have settled on a combo of GSDs and Italian Greyhounds. I currently have two Italian Greyhounds and two GSDs. The GSDs are very gentle and protective of the Iggies and the Iggies let the GSDs chase them. lol the GSDs can never quite catch the Iggies though. It’s adorable when they lay together, the Iggies make sure to groom the GSD. We never have a problem with dirty ears. 😂
I prefer mixes, especially shepherd lab crosses. My current dog is a king/shiloh shepherd lab mix (yes, I know shilohs/kings aren't akc), and she is the best dog I have ever met, let alone had.
I had Reagan my yellow Lab for 17 years. Labs want to do whatever you are doing and they can. They will place themselves between you and anything they see as dangerous. They are always ready to eat .
I'm curious your thoughts on English Bulldogs. I rescued one recently, and have been loving his goofy personality. The stubbornness has proved a bit of a problem though.
Gorgeous 💖
That’s Fracking Fantastic!
I am a huge fan of Golden Retrievers. They are so loving. They also have this adorable mix of being dumb and extremely smart all at the same time.

Saint Bernard! I’ve owned nine over the past 50 years and everyone was a joy.
Yes!Saints are the best!
We recently got a rescue labrador x german shepherd mix, and he is such a perfect all-rounder. So smart and keen to learn, the sweetest temperament, he has slight guarding instincts, as well as the fun retriever instincts, and he's fairly quiet!
Same here. except when mine does bark he really has a big boy bark : -)
I’ve got one too. She’s very protective and can be reactive to other dogs (almost always other “guard” type dogs) but she’s really just a big goofball. Wiggles her entire body when she’s happy!

I was fighting the final plunge to agree with my wife about a lab and this pushed me over the edge ❤
There’s another guy I love to watch named Stonie Dennis whose fav dogs are labs. He drills down about the difference between English line labs and field line labs so he’s the guy IMO to get some great info on which kind is best for you and your family.
I have had 3 Dalmatians, a Lab, 2 Shepards. But my favorite is the American Staffordshire Terrier. Smart, engaging and loyal.
STAFFIES!
My little sweetheart is a 22 month old Havanese! Smart, loving, funny, zooming and happily sitting with me. Just the best. No shedding.
Labrador lover🙋🏻♀️. Mi first one passed away after 14 years with me a year ago. Got another one 4 months after. Love him so much
They are the absolute best dogs.
This is such a win to hear, I have a Cane Corso/German and she’s been a dream at 10months thanks to all your techniques/training protocols
I’ve owned 4 German Shepherds, all were wonderful companions and the best protection dogs for families. The 4 worst days of my life were when I had to say goodbye to each of them, I just wish they lived longer.
We have a Belgian Malinois (related but not the same) that I absolutely love. He is the best companion and has the sweetest and most fun personality.

❤❤❤ Boxers ❤❤❤
Great companion, eager to please, goofy laugh-a-day, family friendly, playful, guard dog when needed, low grooming needs ... dearest friend.
❤❤❤
Boxers are the best! Have had eight Boxers over the years and each one has been amazing.
Love the Mastiff family. So much fun to wrestle with 😁💪🏻
We rescued a Great Pyrenees. We loved the Labs we had in the past, but she is the most wonderful dog of all.
I've really been looking into LSGDs, and I think the next dog I adopt is going to be something like a Pyrenese mix.
All pointers are sooky little shadows that will do anything for food
Will 😍 my top favorite breeds are Mastiffs and Shepherds ... my female Shepherd was a German working line cross with a North American line Shepherd and she was perfect , would have given her life for mine , did a bit of tracking , protection and it was innate in her but would allow a child she didn't know to play with her ... after she passed I just couldn't replace her 💯❣
Recently rescued 2 pups, one is a Shepherd Mix (guess is Shepherd, Mal & Lab). Brilliant, loves to serve, just the right level of energy & naturally protective.
Absolutely agree about the Labrador!
I love my Aussie she is great and definitely want another one, but the Labrador I agree is the best breed. Had one for 17 years and was just so amazing.
Aussies are the best hiking dogs
@@jeffk464 i love my mini aussie hes such a funny good spirited little guy
YES, my mini Australian Shepherd ( Blaze) is 3 years old now. Is the best dog I have ever owned 😊❤😊 my wife has him in Agility training each week, not so much to compete but to use his brain. He is the owner of my 1989 Spartan Gladiator pumper fire engine
He rides on the engine cover between me and my wife.
I agree that Labs are the best dogs ever!!❤❤❤
Facts
YES! My family adores labs too and we're looking to add the second one to our family.
My fav and i have 3 right now is the doberman, high energy, loyal, loving, family protection and easy to train, very clean and slick package
Always had Golden Retriever dogs they are so loving gentle intelligent that’s my vote
I’m sure you all love your dogs. They’re all great. But Labs are the best.
Ahh the voice of a dog lover that has not spent quality time with an Airedale.😉
My black lab/golden retriever cross, “Woodrow”is the love of my life. But then, all of the other dogs I’ve had were, too. ❤
German Shepherd. Amazing dog when you have the right lines.
I have a Golden Retriever, and yes, labs are an amazing breed. The only problem with the GR is the shedding. I don't know if the short hair Lab has the same issue?
Golden aRetrievers are the most loving and cuddly ❤❤❤❤
Nothing compares to a cane corso for loyalty. Love my cane
I agree. I have had several Labs and have loved 🥰 them all. My first was a Lab/Dob mix. Then I had purebred English Labs. My last was a Lab/German Shepherd/Akita mix. Everyone was scared of him, but he was such a baby. Labs are all around great dogs!
I wonder why people prefer Labs over Golden Retrievers, aside from the obvious grooming part.
I got a Lab in August. She was 5 months at the time. Its my first non-small dog. Its been an adjustment. But, I do love her. Been good for my health and I now walk her 4 times a day. She still is a bit mouthy, though and I am working on that.
They stay mouthy for a while but keep working on it and she will eventually get better and be the best dog ever.
Mine was mouthy. He did outgrow it eventually.
I absolutely adore my rough collies. They are so smart and amazing with young children. A perk is their stunning coat, but their intelligence and agility is the best 🥰🥰
When I was a child, we had a long-haired German Shepherd x Rough Collie mix. He was my best friend, super smart and so beautiful 💕
I don't see rough collies very often, but when I do, I am taken aback. They are stunning. Such a cool looking dog.
@ wish I could share photos. My canines really are loved like my kid (taught manners, respect, and discipline 😉)
I have a 9 year old Presa. Not sure what I'll do without him. He's a great hiker. Had a Sheppard before this guy. Miss him
My lab is absolutely wonderful. No need for a competition though. With time and patience, any breed can be good for you.
My favourite doggy ever was a lab mastiff cross. Our Sally. What a darling she was.
1:19 that poncho goes hard my boy
You could have stopped at Cane Corso but the other two are awesome as well
It really comes down to personal preferences.
Thanks Will, really appreciate your knowledge.
Airedales are my ultimate fav. I grew up with one and have had two of my own. Fantastic breed
I agree on my third Airedale. So fun to train once you figure out don’t bore them.
My Airedale is 7 years old. Best dog in the world in my eyes 🥹
ive adopted a Rmwd GSD this year and its the best thing ive ever done
How do those three I definitely pick the German Shepherd. I have a female German Shepherd guide dog and she was absolutely wonderful.
my mom and I currently own a cane corso and she previously had two german shepherds can't wait to tell her we're getting a lab next
Do you have any thoughts or advice on Cursinus, please?
I’d love you to try with my Alabai and Ovcharka. Both are very well behaved, but stubborn x100. Both were rescues
Ive had Labradors since i was 13, absolutely beautiful dog breed but i have a soft spot for bullmastiffs since i rescued one 10 years ago ❤️
Breeding is important. ❤
Boxers are the best❤ 💯
Had a Border Collie/Kelpie mix, incredibly smart and very loyal. He was more of a partner than a pet.
LOL
Black lab owner here. Dad used to shoot, and bought a new lab when I was 3 weeks old. Kali, she is my dog soul and the affinity with labs was born
My mutt! There's no one else like her! 🥰
I'm working with a Danish Mastiff at the moment. Wonderful dogs!
I have two Corsi. Love them. ❤️
We loved our very loyal Bernese. What a great dog.
Boxers == Best Dogs Ever
I’d take a golden retriever over lab. But both are prolly the best!
No way I grew up with Goldens and later in life I got my first Lab and never looked back. I have four. We has smart Goldens and great personalities but there is something that makes Labs just a bit better in every way:)
You both are missing out // FCR owner 🫶
I love my Golden Retriever, but finding a healthy Golden from a good breeder is a lot harder than with a Lab, and the fact that they mature slower than labs, and can require significantly more grooming (especially for show lines, working lines are usually less demanding with grooming), I would probably recommend a lab over a Golden to first time owners or families with very small children, but a Golden for everyone else, if they're willing to put in the extra effort!
If you look for European bloodlines. The lighter cream color variation. Those ones tend to be more calm. Healthier on average too.
I love me a good retriever! I admit I prefer Goldens but only because I like the longer coat. But a good Lab is AMAZING.
Corso are just amazing dogs!
I have a cross lab x malinois. Best of both
Hi Will, what do you think about the Irish Terrier? Are they still very very stubborn?
I love my Labrador his name is Teddy bear and he is my assistance boy. Love him to bits so loyal and loving
I have one dog form your like and one from not like list. As German shepard and syberian husky owner my experience is somehow they fit to each other.
My wife and i have an 8 year old Chocolate lab who was born deaf!! hes the best!
GSDs are super easy to teach to be quieter.
