I have an old bed trailer like this. The floor has started rusting out of it though so I need to get some plate and fix it up. Been thinking of making it a dump tilt for moving dirt. Great video!
Not overkill at all, good job! Thanks for the video, now get some safety chains on her and lights (if) going on road use.. if not, great property trailer!
Thankyou I've never seen a gas welder in use before. 2 questions. Do you have a plug of some kind for the hitch receiver so no one can slot there own into it and walk off with it? If you should decide to add a tongue accessory/tool box on it will you please do a video on the build and install.
Really? I use one a lot in my videos. No I don't if there is one thing I know about thieves if they want it they will take it no matter what you do, but if you can make it really hard it is less likely to happen. I don't know of any normal person that keeps a hitch of any kind in their truck other than the one that does the pulling. You would have to look at, and buy or make a way to steal it, and no good thieve will work that hard to steal a crappy old trailer. Sure I'd be glad to.
I have one with nothing in front of the firewall. With no seat there is a lot of extra storage in the front plus the bed. Open the doors and get what you want. I like your hitch idea. Thanks.
great high quality video really enjoyed this one man!! could u use the rubber hangers the exhaust is mounted with as bump stops in the coupling? as bumpstops for when u come to a stop? stop the train noise
Re. the slack in the hitch. Most semi trailers with a pintle hitch have an air ram to take up the slack I know that's not practical in this setup but you could maybe rig up something that was activated by inertia.
looks pretty good except for I would've put a triangle shape plate to tie together the tubing and the frame rails. Also would have used a piece of angle iron from the square tubing to the first crossbeam straight down the middle.
I like putting that Jack behind the hitch on center with the round pipe mount! Pull the pin and put the jack on the truck! Can't jack knife into the jack and screw it up. Makes the jack lift on the center and not twist the frame when heavy. Use a jack with an adjustable leg makes it handier for other uses. Also block up the trailer lower then the hitch height and pull the jack. Harder to STEAL! Just my idea!
Love to see you experimenting with video editing and those damn computer things with their UBS (USB) ports. Gotta start somewhere with everything. Love your videos man, teaching me a lot about "simple" fabrication skills. Its simple if you know it right?
i was thinking the other day about doing a removable hitch then just happen to see a bolt in hitch that goes on the back why not just get one of those put on the front seams like it would be easier or am i thinking wrong
We got an old Ford bed turned in the trailer wagon I mean it’s the year where they have fat fender flares side steps and all steel. Raul gate uses chains haha
I laughed out loud at the "3 on the tree" comment. That whole bit was pretty funny. Nothing like some country humor. Great build. I love seeing people take something headed for the junkyard and make something useful out of it.
One more thing.....make sure the shocks are in GOOD shape. If the ones on the truck frame you're modifing are bad, then buy new ones or go to a salvage yard and look for some better ones on a salvaged truck OR large car. Matching a car's shocks to a truck and vice versa is just a matter of matching the attachment points, the extension lengths, and the compression lengths. No big proplem. Thank you for this video, Brother. It should help a lot of backyard builders, such as me, myself, and I;. lololol
blueticecho Somebody has been watching ole Chucky2009. Well you have to look like this too. A cheap utility trailer has 2X3 angle iron for the draw tongue and is rated for 2000-3500 lbs. This trailer is 6" - 3/16" plate that is bent in the shape of a C. I'm not planing on hauling over 2000 lbs so I think it is plenty strong.
Noooo sir Class I never heard or seen this Chucky guy we did it so we could drag a little job-box to job to job..for our electrical stuff.I got a old 1952 Ford step up box and the tail gate is in perfect shape.
Weld that receiver on the trailer up !!! I understand the theft part but that trailer is NOT worth a lawsuit . Your a contractor and the liability will be on YOU. I love that welding helmet . How do you have it attached to the helmet ?
Aye I'm going to try not to do anything foolish. I'll let you know if something fails. It is just a hard hat clamp known as a hoop or halo. www.industrialsafety.com/Sperian-5000-Fibre-Metal-SpeedyLoop-p/cc-5000hw.htm?gclid=Cj0KEQiAnb3DBRCX2ZnSnMyO9dIBEiQAOcXYH9GAhpTKep7jWVu9FXO_RkfEXZ1gWq3ObayGzXUa6XoaAtTO8P8HAQ
thieves dont "hitch up" to save time, they hook a chan to trailer, raise the leg and they are gone. main theft deterrent is a leg that takes time and effort to raise
don't cut it right behind the cab.. lol... behind the front leaf springs.. if u cut behind the cab.. ul have no tounge... I have built so many trailers
I cant belive you didnt tie the frame together under that hitch with a plate so the bottom of the hitch is tied in to the frame. That little bar you put in is a joke. No offence that a weak design.
Heavy Metalworks Aye not the strongest thing I have ever built, but it is a lot stronger than one would think. Take a look at any cheap trailer that is built most are built of 2" angle iron with no boxing under the hitch and no bracing in the tongue. Now granted I should have put more into the tongue if I pulled it more than I do, but it works fine for what I do with it.
hi, i,enjoy your videos, and how smart you re but I have some comments? I am looking upon my 70th birthday.i had my first job at 15,in a crane rental and steel erection co.they erected 40 story buildings using guy derricks, where the derrick was on the erection floor ,and the operator and hoist engine were in the bottom basement.this company was the first to bring tower cranes to ny.city.they lost the bid to erect the world trade center by a million dollars.at 18 I got into the steamfitters union learned a lot working with the old timers? what I want to yell at you is to stop working so stupid?I am watching you fuck around under some old truck laying on the ground, you have a small boom truck, turn the old truck over?you are tall and lanky, learn to care of your back?you seem to have plenty of scrap steel laying around and lots of space, build some work benches or saw horses get off the ground?learn to take care of yourself? I would not enjoy you doing your videos from a wheel chair? be well, no one is going to look out for your welfare but you? gene638
Nice job. Really enjoy watching you do different projects. Thank you for sharing

Thank you Sir! Great content! Be safe and God bless you and your family !!!!
Nice work. Thanks for the light recommendation.
Happy New Year, Another of your good video on how to be inventive. Thx. Cheers, Chris.
How's the trailer holding up since u built it. Any added items or features. Thank u for making this video. 💯👏💪
Cool little trailer, but seems to me like it could use a bit more bracing around that hitch tube.
nice work man! I will bet this trailer will be good for doing many different jobs!
Not overkill at all, good job! Thanks for the video, now get some safety chains on her and lights (if) going on road use.. if not, great property trailer!
Nice idea. never would've thought of that
Good video! It answered all my trailer questions.
nice video i learn good stuff watching your videos
Look good please wire up the lights and add saftey chains
Good build, but why did you keep the exhaust pipe ?
Great job sir, keep on keepin on. Definitely a good work trailer.

Just add a locking hitch pin on the trailer side so someone couldn’t install their own hitch in to it.
Great job !
I have one with nothing in front of the firewall. With no seat there is a lot of extra storage in the front plus the bed. Open the doors and get what you want. I like your hitch idea. Thanks.
A job well done.
Good job. Good "anti theft" ideal. Wondering tho, why you didn't remove all the old brake components off the axle while you had the wheels off?
They didn't have any shoes, so I didn't mess with the rest. I do know just being lazy.
great high quality video really enjoyed this one man!! could u use the rubber hangers the exhaust is mounted with as bump stops in the coupling? as bumpstops for when u come to a stop? stop the train noise
That could work, but I think they would wear out really fast.
do you normally use a Pintle Hitch system on your other items you tow? Nice Job ............
Re. the slack in the hitch. Most semi trailers with a pintle hitch have an air ram to take up the slack I know that's not practical in this setup but you could maybe rig up something that was activated by inertia.

Did you leave the brake shoes on?
I did. I don't think it hurt anything.
Probably not, but if the brake drums rust, there can be some drag. Liked your build. Thanks.
You can fabricate or purchase a simple clamp that will take out the play in your receivers.
Another great one
Love to see you experimenting with video editing and those damn computer things with their UBS (USB) ports. Gotta start somewhere with everything. Love your videos man, teaching me a lot about "simple" fabrication skills. Its simple if you know it right?
if the fuel tanks are still in tact, great way to have extra fuel for the welder!
Aye them UBS get me every time. Thanks man aye it takes a little time, and remember I didn't any of this not to long ago.
i was thinking the other day about doing a removable hitch then just happen to see a bolt in hitch that goes on the back why not just get one of those put on the front seams like it would be easier or am i thinking wrong
I would have added air tot the tires and threw a 150-200 lbs in the back then made measurements for hitch. but great job!
Nice video, thanks!
Have you ever rebuilt and ran the racks on a cat 3116 engine
I have a trailer from a 74 Chevy box but a front end under it instead of the 'pig'. This way it is slightly lighter and reduces moving parts.
We got an old Ford bed turned in the trailer wagon I mean it’s the year where they have fat fender flares side steps and all steel. Raul gate uses chains haha
Are you ever going to remove the exhaust pipe?
nice... ! clever....
What is sap sucker slang for?
Who did you learn that from?
I laughed out loud at the "3 on the tree" comment. That whole bit was pretty funny. Nothing like some country humor. Great build. I love seeing people take something headed for the junkyard and make something useful out of it.
where are you located?
very cool
You must be in central NC?
another good video. that f163 sounds horrible with the sound sped up
Aye it does. All things do really.

Are you grinding with a welding helmet on??
Caleb Smith yep so I can't see what I'm doing ;-)
lololol
Class I would have double up and put a 2in pipe or channel tube from your Quick hitch to the back cross members.. but that's just me..

blueticecho I got ya. Sorry I meant to disrespect I saw someone earlier that did the exact thing you said.
were you running 6011 or 7018
6011 to tack, 7018 to weld.
id could tell by how the flux was
Classic Work If you're tacking with a 6011, why not just finish welding it entirely with the 6011?
Weld that receiver on the trailer up !!! I understand the theft part but that trailer is NOT worth a lawsuit . Your a contractor and the liability will be on YOU. I love that welding helmet . How do you have it attached to the helmet ?

That's right the frame is the weak part of the build. I'll find out real quick if my welding holds up. Thanks man I do appreciate it.
I put that same hitch on my trailer.
thieves dont "hitch up" to save time, they hook a chan to trailer, raise the leg and they are gone. main theft deterrent is a leg that takes time and effort to raise
Measuring tongue height with a flat tire?
Yep both where flat, so it worked out. ;-)
Am I the first comment? Good to see a new video
I liked it for the jokes.
don't cut it right behind the cab.. lol... behind the front leaf springs.. if u cut behind the cab.. ul have no tounge... I have built so many trailers
