    I have an old bed trailer like this. The floor has started rusting out of it though so I need to get some plate and fix it up. Been thinking of making it a dump tilt for moving dirt. Great video!

    Thankyou I've never seen a gas welder in use before. 2 questions. Do you have a plug of some kind for the hitch receiver so no one can slot there own into it and walk off with it?
    If you should decide to add a tongue accessory/tool box on it will you please do a video on the build and install.

      Really? I use one a lot in my videos. No I don't if there is one thing I know about thieves if they want it they will take it no matter what you do, but if you can make it really hard it is less likely to happen. I don't know of any normal person that keeps a hitch of any kind in their truck other than the one that does the pulling. You would have to look at, and buy or make a way to steal it, and no good thieve will work that hard to steal a crappy old trailer. Sure I'd be glad to.

    • @timothykirkland6920
      @timothykirkland6920 7 лет назад

      Just add a locking hitch pin on the trailer side so someone couldn’t install their own hitch in to it.

    do you normally use a Pintle Hitch system on your other items you tow? Nice Job ............

  • @TheCalgarydoug
    @TheCalgarydoug 7 лет назад +1

    Re. the slack in the hitch. Most semi trailers with a pintle hitch have an air ram to take up the slack I know that's not practical in this setup but you could maybe rig up something that was activated by inertia.

  • @aa999xyz
    @aa999xyz 6 лет назад +5

    looks pretty good except for I would've put a triangle shape plate to tie together the tubing and the frame rails. Also would have used a piece of angle iron from the square tubing to the first crossbeam straight down the middle.

  • @barntt
    @barntt 2 года назад

    I like putting that Jack behind the hitch on center with the round pipe mount! Pull the pin and put the jack on the truck! Can't jack knife into the jack and screw it up. Makes the jack lift on the center and not twist the frame when heavy. Use a jack with an adjustable leg makes it handier for other uses. Also block up the trailer lower then the hitch height and pull the jack. Harder to STEAL! Just my idea!

    One more thing.....make sure the shocks are in GOOD shape. If the ones on the truck frame you're modifing are bad, then buy new ones or go to a salvage yard and look for some better ones on a salvaged truck OR large car. Matching a car's shocks to a truck and vice versa is just a matter of matching the attachment points, the extension lengths, and the compression lengths. No big proplem. Thank you for this video, Brother. It should help a lot of backyard builders, such as me, myself, and I;. lololol

      blueticecho Somebody has been watching ole Chucky2009. Well you have to look like this too. A cheap utility trailer has 2X3 angle iron for the draw tongue and is rated for 2000-3500 lbs. This trailer is 6" - 3/16" plate that is bent in the shape of a C. I'm not planing on hauling over 2000 lbs so I think it is plenty strong.

    I cant belive you didnt tie the frame together under that hitch with a plate so the bottom of the hitch is tied in to the frame. That little bar you put in is a joke. No offence that a weak design.

    • @EEJester1586
      @EEJester1586 7 лет назад +1

      Heavy Metalworks Aye not the strongest thing I have ever built, but it is a lot stronger than one would think. Take a look at any cheap trailer that is built most are built of 2" angle iron with no boxing under the hitch and no bracing in the tongue. Now granted I should have put more into the tongue if I pulled it more than I do, but it works fine for what I do with it.

    hi, i,enjoy your videos,and how smart you re but I have some comments? I am looking upon my 70th birthday.i had my first job at 15,in a crane rental and steel erection co.they erected 40 story buildings using guy derricks, where the derrick was on the erection floor ,and the operator and hoist engine were in the bottom basement.this company was the first to bring tower cranes to ny.city.they lost the bid to erect the world trade center by a million dollars.at 18 I got into the steamfitters union learned a lot working with the old timers? what I want to yell at you is to stop working so stupid?I am watching you fuck around under some old truck laying on the ground, you have a small boom truck, turn the old truck over?you are tall and lanky,learn to care of your back?you seem to have plenty of scrap steel laying around and lots of space, build some work benches or saw horses get off the ground?learn to take care of yourself? I would not enjoy you doing your videos from a wheel chair? be well, no one is going to look out for your welfare but you? gene638
