- Andrew Garfield presented the Stephen F. Kolzak Award to Michaela Jaé Rodriguez at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles.
Garfield said, "When she first appeared as Blanca on Pose in 2018, the world fell in love with her as she evolved from dutiful 'daughter' to fierce house mother, fighting every battle - including HIV - with grace, laughter, tears and determination."
Rodriguez said, "I want to thank GLAAD for elevating and celebrating the voices of trans and nonbinary people. This moment isn’t about me, it’s about each and every last one of us."

As a trans guy who grew up in a pretty restricting household, i can tell you, loving and accepting your child really makes all the difference. This made me sob real hard, Love Michaela and everything she's done for our community what an amazing, incredible woman, so extremely proud of her. Thank you for uplifting and continuously advocating for us

What a beautiful moment was the standing ovation to Michaela’s mother. Loving parents don’t always get all the recognition and appreciation they deserve. As a gay man in my 40’s living a fulfilled and happy life, I can attest that the love and support of my mother made the world difference in the fact that I am here today. She deserves a huge portion of the credit for anything I have ever accomplished. When M.J.’s mom received that standing ovation, I thought of my mom who must be getting her own standing ovation in heaven as well! 💐😢

Okay, crying now. Supportive parents are more precious than gold in this community, I do believe, and we all need to work together, like she said, to vote these horrible legislators out of office to be able to continue moving forward instead of moving several steps back. (As a Floridian, this is very, very important to me.) These legislators and AGs criminalizing (or trying to criminalize) supportive parenting have got to get voted out.
